Each MacIntosh center has a committee of personnel and residents that routinely meet to discuss our programming and where they would like to see us expand. We believe that embracing a resident-centered model of long-term care changes the atmosphere for both residents and staff, which makes our centers better places to work and to live.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

This place is very bad! My dad was at Mill Run Rehabilitation Center after the spinal cord fracture and surgery. The room and food were OK; also his occupational therapists were OK. Everything else was terrible. The nurses at this facility didn't have an adequate training. Their manager doesn't check on their work There was no doctor on duty. The staff couldn't replace his catheter, and he developed UTI. When he had fever because of his UTI, nurses ignored it. They even didn't measure his temperature; he had a thermometer and did it himself. The nurse practitioner told us later that his temperature was measured and it was normal. The meds were not delivered in timely manner. When he left the facility, he had a big bed sore because no one helped him roll from one side to another to reduce pressure, which is supposed to be a standard care. After he left this facility, he was admitted to the Riverside Hospital to treat his bed sore because it was in a very bad dangerous condition.

My wife was transferred to this facility from the Doctors hospital. The staff, and nursing personnel are professional, knowledgeable and courteous. She was just transferred to the assisted living side and is doing well. The care team Matt, Billy, and Jayden have been wonderful in the entire process. All supporting staff have also provided excellent care. I would recommend this facility to anyone who needs care for their loved one.

The care received at Mill Run for my Mother has been excellent. Mill Run has made my Mother a home there, not just a place to lay up. Rooms, food, activities, cleanliness stand above any other home I have seen. And I have been to many in Columbus area over my years. Staff have been nothing but kind, professional and caring. Always answering questions I have and giving immediate response. I have nothing but gratitude for each and every employee there who are doing what my family and I were unable to do.

My mother is at Mill Run Rehabilitation Center, Skilled Nursing & Assisted Living and she's been happy there. When I called them first, I told them that I didn't have a bed, nor a dresser, a couch, or anything, but they were able to take her in, assess her, and start with the care that she needed immediately. Then we had her furniture moved up here last week. It was seamless. The biggest part was it's 15 minutes from my home. So, I'm just thrilled that everything worked out well as it did. My mother is the pickiest person I've ever met, and she thinks their food is the best she's ever had. The care is exceptional and I could not be happier about that. The staff has a smile on their face, and all of my mother's needs are being met. They have an activity person there, and so there's always something going on every hour between 10 a.m. and 6 or 7 p.m. They do everything from bingo to fun-themed lunche and gatherings. They just had a Derby day and a Mother's day. They also have exercises, a great library, an art center, and everything that you would possibly need.

My mother was a resident of Mill Run Rehabilitation Center, Skilled Nursing & Assisted Living. I was putting her in there to live, and they were horrible. Her overall experience was very poor, and they had a very long response time. She fell once while she was in there, and no one found her till the next morning. The maintenance issues were not addressed. The aides were horrible; she couldn't walk at all, but they seemed to feel like they had no clue she couldn't walk and just left her. I found her in a room one day just wandering around in her wheelchair, tearing her cupboards apart, looking for a diaper because she had nothing on. The room was lovely, that's the one thing I loved about it; they had a lot of build-ins. But then once you get in there, you realize that when you pick the room, it was to be painted. The floors were dirty, they weren't clean. The faucets were broken. There was no toilet paper holder, at the time I moved her out. It still had not been put into the wall. While the room may have been attractive, the one that you looked at, once you got in there, it wasn't that way. They can improve on cleanliness, staffing, and maintenance.

I moved into Mill Run Rehabilitation Center, Skilled Nursing & Assisted Living. I've been in a couple of others and just the care here is very good. The people are very friendly and very supportive. They get you on and off a bedpan in a very timely manner. The food is good here. My room is kept clean and it's a nice size. You have a place for your clothes and you have a nice area that's built-in for your TV and shelves and you're allowed to put stuff there as well. I have a small chest to the side of me if needed. It's very roomy. There's plenty of room for clothes or whatever. My husband picked it out and it was our first choice. I'm in a situation where I can't participate in activities yet. They give a list every day of the local news, weather, they have word search on there, too, and they give us the times of the meals and the activities and what they're doing that day. I'm in the rehab part. They have a therapy room but for me, they're coming to my room and doing things. They're taking good care of me.

I visited this facility

Mill Run Gardens and Care Center was very nice, but it's 20 miles from my home. The rooms were nice. The place looked very fresh, had bright hallways, and the décor was very nice. They didn't have physical therapy.

My mother was there for a stay and half the time I feel she was neglected. Went and visited her, she was soak and wet, sitting in poop due to her poop bag being busted and falling asleep in a wheelchair. Took them an hour to even put her in bed and another two hours just to change her poop bag and clothes. Not to mention my mom supplied her bags... unacceptable, period. I can only imagine how they treat people who have no family there to speak up for them.

My mother was in Mill Run Rehabilitation Center, which had assisted living attached. The workers were fine; however, I did find that responding to any calls or sheet changes was slow and there was a little lack of taking care of supplying towels and toiletries, so that was a little frustrating. The people were very nice. I think it was the staff who had to do the housekeeping portion or took care of answering the buzzers who weren’t always the greatest. A couple of times, they admitted they did not watch her take her pills. I found one pill in my mother’s pocket, and I inquired if they’re there to make sure she takes it, and they said no, which I found to be totally unacceptable. However, my overall experience with them was good. As for the activities, they would have fun music playing on the piano and do a special thing every evening, like serve ice cream treats. The rehab part was good.

This is more than just a nursing home - the staff and residents are treated like family. I always felt as if my mother was well cared for and clean - her room was always fresh and her roommate well matched for what mom needed. The food is decent - the activities directors a hoot - the therapists are top notch. My mother had Alzheimer's and they even treated her to music therapy (which she loved). She was well tended to in her end days and I never felt as if she was ignored just because she was dying (quite the opposite - everyone who cared for her made sure mom knew she was special). The entire staff even stopped what they were doing after she died and walked with her body to the funeral van!

Dear Shawn, Thank you for taking the time to recognize the team at Mill Run. It truly was our pleasure having the opportunity to care for your mother. She was a wonderful lady and will certainly be missed. Thank you for allowing her to become a part of our Mill Run family. Sincerely, Lura Sandy - Administrator

I am/was a resident of this facility

Before my foot surgery I wanted to find a good skilled nursing and rehab facility. I had already looked at three facilities that didn't particularly excite me before I walked through the doors of the Mill Run Garden and Care Center. The friendly reception I received, the quality of the presentation of information, the thoroughness of the tour, and the cleanliness of the building all impressed me. I knew I had found the right place for my recovery. Mill Run turned out to even surpass my expectations and standards. The skilled nurses, without exception, knew what they were doing. The care I received and the care I observed them giving to other patients was top-notch. They followed my doctor’s directives as he ordered, changed my dressings, delivered my meds on time and even ordered a mobile ultrasound for me. Actually the only thing I took issue with was when the ultrasound results came in. The nurse on duty didn’t think she could tell me what the results were. This bump in the road was resolved for me immediately by the director of nursing. And then there were my aides. They got me up in the mornings and into my wheelchair and into and out of the shower and the bathroom. If I pressed my call light and my assigned aide was helping another patient , one of the other aides or even a nurse would step in to see what I needed. I’ve seen some excellent examples of teamwork amongst the Mill Run staff! For an hour and a half, five days a week for four weeks an occupational and physical therapist worked tirelessly on teaching me how to perform the activities of daily living (ADL’s) which were so relevant to the quality of my life. OT didn’t need to teach me how to make and butter toast as this was not my disability but rather how to put my socks on which I couldn’t do. It was baby steps all the way. At first I learned how to stand with a walker and later how to reach for something with one hand while still using the walker. Every day I was able to do more and more as I grew stronger and stronger. I was taught how to safely stand up and sit down while always being aware of my hand placements and always with wheelchair brakes on. My PT had me do exercises every day to keep my legs strong and flexible. There is much more I could say about the OT’s and PT’s including how they also demonstrated a fine example of Mill Run teamwork. These professionals sincerely cared about me and my progress towards being as independent as I realistically could become. I learned so much from them. About food! I liked most of the set menu meals but not all. When there was something I didn’t like I would turn to the extensive bistro menu to make substitutions with items I liked. My particular food choices such as two milks with every meal or lots of ranch dressing for my salads were made note of and observed. I can’t complain about the food even tho I’m sort of on the edge of being a fussy eater. I personally think that Mill Run has higher cleanliness standards than any of the other facilities I visited. The rooms are cleaned every day of the week including Saturday’s and Sunday’s. Every fixture and surface in the bathrooms are sanitized every day. The floors are swept and wet mopped every day as well. I had a complaint about one housekeeper who came into my room on two separate occasions without knocking. This stopped as soon as I said something. And finally and so important to me was the ambiance at Mill Run. The staff would say “hi, how are you” the first time they saw you each day and after that there could just be smiles. I always knew I was in a friendly, sincere, caring, and compassionate place. I know I made the best possible choice for my recovery!

My husband has been in Mill Run for rehab since June 23rd. It’s an excellent care facility. It has a beautiful setting, the shrubs are trimmed to look like statues, and it’s very pretty and quiet. The staff is very cordial, very friendly, and upfront with everything that has to do with my husband’s care. They call and tell me if there are changes in the orders of the physician. They have activities, and they take him to the activity room. The food is excellent. He eats everything.

This the worst place to bring your loved ones.... the are always short on aides. They run those aides into the ground!!!!!! The managers only care about themselves. The don does not care about the patients needs at all. She say she will the problem but doesnt. My mother was there n my mother have falling at least 6xs since she has been moved to her new room. And teri the adon is very rude. And shes no help at all. She walks around like she knows everything n she doesnt. I asked her about my mother care and she said she doesnt take care of her. Her and the unit manager split up the patient care duties. And then we get to miss joann the unit manager. Shes very rude to the aides she gives them jobs on top of jobs to do. i have over convo in the halls of aides happening to stay over bc they are short handed. im sorry those poor aides deal with a enough during the day time . I watch some nurses cry bc they have to stay over whill management just walks out the door. I have come in on 3 times on 3 different days to see what night shift is doing bc i should not come in 630am to find my mothers bed soaking wet. The night shift aides have it made at no management at night. I would sit down all night and sleep too... im telling you never bring your loved ones here

This review relates to the assisted living area only. The facility is beautiful, clean, offers good meals, activities, building surrounded courtyards with gardens and comfortable visiting and seating areas. The residential units are like a small suite with a bedroom area, bath with too small walk-in shower, walk-in closet, living room area and small kitchen area with room for a table for two. All this said the most important is the staff. They were friendly, open, encouraging, and available when needed. My friend had brittle diabetes with early dementia. The staff would sit with her for hours if needed until her sugar stabilized and she was safe again to be alone. When she deteriorated and walked out of the facility she was transferred to a dementia care facility.

I visited this facility

The facility was clean and orderly whenever I entered (several times between 2011-12). The staff was helpful to both patients and their visitors, and I never saw a single client who was left without assistance in their rooms. I personally witnessed the staff go above and beyond for their clients, never seeing an unanswered call light for longer than 15 minutes with a staff constantly in motion and attentive.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My father was sent to Mill Run as a rehab patient post open heart surgery and it was one disaster after another. They recently opened a new wing purportedly geared toward rehab and the center had good reviews. However, it quickly became apparent that they had expanded without contracting the necessary staff. There were no guardrails on the bed and the first night my father fell out of his bed. The following morning, we arrived to find him in a urine-soaked bed, and hadn't been changed. They finally came on the second day to "evaluate" him for OT and PT, but we were so disgusted by the inadequate attention and care that we took him out on the third day. After the first night, when he fell out of bed, we stayed with him and our fears were confirmed: there only appeared to be ONE aid for the whole wing. No one came in to even check his temperature until 3:30 when he began moaning and I pushed the call button--he was soaking wet. They didn't have a schedule or proper charting for his medicine. They didn't even have his medicine until the afternoon of the day after he arrived--a full 24 hours later!! The charge nurse on the first night said she was giving him his sleeping medicine before I left; but the next day, the nursing supervisor admitted that they had not obtained ANY of his medicines. I could go on and on. The bottom line: DO NOT under any circumstances send anyone you love to this place. It is nothing but a dangerous warehouse.
