Nursing Home Communities in Auburn, NY

"If your parent(s) need assisted living, this is the facility where you want them to be. The staff is so caring and they work very hard to make patients feel comfortable. My mother in-law had a tough time transitioning to the memory care unit and they provided a one on one aid to help her out. It was wonderful. I describe the facility as " a cruise ship on land"! Beautiful rooms, dining areas, and grounds Both of my parents and my mother in -law lived at McHarrie Pointe and then moved over to the skilled nursing area. I am so thankful to have had them at a wonderful place during the later years of their lives. "

"I think that the staff of St. Camillus is good. When I’m there, they appear to be very good, and I think they give good care. I kind of looked around, checked out a few, and it’s convenient. I’ve been there a few times and my top two priorities are the facility is clean and there are no bad odors. I’ve watched my mother when she eats, and the food is OK from what I’ve seen. I know they have Bingo that my mother enjoys, at least once a week, and the activities vary. I think they’re doing a pretty good job with my mother. Nothing runs perfectly but from what I’ve seen and what I’ve explained, I think she gets the proper care. I don’t know what happens when I’m not there, but the head nurse seems on top of things, and when problems come up, she’s right on it to correct it, and she seems to be aware of what’s going on with my mother every time I call her. I’m sure that things happen differently when I’m not around but when I’m there, they do a pretty good job for the facility that it is. I think everybody tries, and I’m pretty satisfied. "

"I chose this facility because it caters to the mentally ill. It's an excellent community and the staff is great. They have a good set of rules and regulations. The place is clean and it's a very caring community. My brother's room is comfortable. Well, he has good days and bad days but it's the same anywhere he is. I like it because the place is like a house. They have a kitchen there and they eat together. The food is nice and healthy as they try not to do a lot of sugar in it. Excellent provider, would surely recommend this to others. "

"My sister and I were not impressed with the Living Center South facility of the Finger Lakes Health group when our mother was living there. It was not as clean as we felt it should have been, our mother was not happy there and some patients were talked down to by certain staff memebers. We were lucky to get our mother moved to a much nicer facility of the Finger Lakes Health group, where they treat everyone with respect and it is kept cleaner. Living Center South needs to be re-evaluated, improved upon, remove the dead wood staff members and get people who really care about the patients and envirnoment. "

"We chose Central Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for my mom. It's relatively small. There's four floors, but they really only have three that are for residents. The second floor is reserved for admissions and analysis work, rehab basically. The ratio of staff to residents was good, and when I reviewed the scoring by Medicare it received very high scores in relation to care for long-term patients. So far, she's had no complaints about the food. They also have alternatives, so if the resident is not pleased with what they're offering for a particular meal, they have alternatives. My mom's happy with that because there were a couple of things that she didn't like, and they were able to come up with a substitute. I actually observed a couple of meals that my mom has really enjoyed. One in particular was a tuna noodle casserole that was very reminiscent of what she used to make for us when we were growing up, and so she hadn't had that in a long time. So she was very pleased. Her room is semi-private. It comes with a bed, a dresser, and a chair. They have their own closets and there's one bathroom for the two residents that are in the room. It's pretty spacious. They encourage you to customize your space. So we have been bringing stuff in for my mom that reminds her of home, it's very personal, and she has on the wall pictures and stuff that make her happy. Most of the stuff that they have been offering, they do art classes and so forth, she's been getting involved in, but she hasn't really done an awful lot. She's just been staying in her room trying to get acclimated."

"Overall, the facility was excellent. The entranceway was welcoming and well-kept, with friendly staff waiting to help guide you through the facility. The lobby was well-decorated and didn't feel like a hospital; it felt more like a hotel. The nurse who was with us was also the nurse who was caring for my great-grandmother, and she was pleasant and friendly. There were a few staff members that seemed to be less pleasant, but we did not have a direct experience with them. The rooms were simply furnished and were a little dull. There wasn't a lot of room for personal belongings. However, they did feel nicer than something like a hospital room. Out of curiosity, we tried some of the food and found it to be surprisingly good. We looked into some of the services and facilities provided and found that were plenty of additional amenities for those able to take advantage of them, such as an entertainment room with various activities, and a swimming pool. The only major negative of the facility is that the care staff seemed to have a slow response time, though that could have been due to understaffing. "

"This nursing home is not one that I would recommend unless there is family that is willing to keep a close eye on what is happening to their relative. We have a family member visit my relative every day since she was addmited. I spent the first three months setting up special options her, ie. a special menu each month, I am allowed to bath her, she can sleep in until she wakes up, etc. My relative has Alzhiemers, but has been able to dress herself and use the bathroom without assistance up to this point. She is faltering quickly in being able to do these things. Therefore, the nursing home personnel will have to start helping her with her everyday needs much more very soon. At that time, we will have to see if we are still comfortable that she is being taken care of properly. Rosewood recently was added to the federal list of the worst nursing homes in the U.S.. With all the things the social worker helped us to change for her in the first few months and being able to be there daily, we have been happy here and have been able to stay on top of her care. The social worker and the dietician have been a wonderful help. If you do not have the time to set things up personally for your relative and cannot be there all the time to make sure they are okay, I would not recommend this facility at this time. "

"Spacious rooms and immaculate facility. Staff is caring and compassionate. Dementia unit allows residents the freedom to roam and provides engaging activities. My father was lovingly cared for at Iroquois for 2.5 years. Highly recommended Iroquois."

"Cannot express how grateful and thankful we as a family are for the care that has been and continues to be provided by the staff at Elderwood at Liverpool for my Father-In-Law. Even during COVID they were amazing. He has Alzeheimers and is in the last stages, but they continue to treat him and the other residents with such respect and care. The staff is above and beyond and steps in when the family can't be there. We are truly grateful~Thank you. It means more than words can tell~"

"We definitely would consider putting our mother at Wayne County Nursing Home if she had to go to a nursing home. Everything seemed pleasant. For a nursing home, it didn't seem very clinical. The dining area was nice, clean, spacious, and pretty, like what you would find in a regular kitchen. There was a courtyard right off the kitchen. The food smelled good. We didn't speak with many people, but everybody we spoke to was nice, friendly and helpful. The building was fairly new, updated, well kept, maintained, and clean."

"The Oaks is smaller; my mother in law is used to a small facility, and she liked it better than a big place. It’s an independent facility with a capability of adding extra services as they become necessary; you don’t have to move, and that’s another thing we liked. She’s been there for a month, we haven’t seen any issues, and she’s really happy there. "

"Groton nursing facility could definitely use more staff when it comes to aide and things like that. Other than that, the aides are wonderful, they're very nice to her. It's just that she can't get up and go to the bathroom on her own without assistance. And they usually take two people. I know they're big, I think there are 40 patients on each floor or something like that. During the day, I think there's only six aides and at night there's two I think, so it's kind of tough. Sometimes my mom has to wait an hour for her to go to the bathroom. She is sharing a room with another lady who is pretty incapacitated. She's just there. They get everybody up every day. They have wonderful meals and everything. We're in and out every day. They need more aides, that's all. "

"The staff at Michaud were very thoughtful, understanding, and professional when it came to my father's Alzheimers and the challenges it created. The nurses were able to cater to his needs and make him feel very comfortable. He needed assistance with every aspect of his day-to-day life, and he was always treated with respect and dignity. The facility itself looked a little outdated, but I had such a good experience with the staff that the appearance of the facility didn't matter. It was kept very clean at all times and before my father died there were a few renovations made, including a new kitchen/sitting area on the second floor. There were some nice benches to sit on outside the front door, so on nice days we could bring Dad outside to sit in the sun. Also, the nursing home had some activities that he really enjoyed, including sing alongs and musical performances.In all, this nursing home put me at ease when it came to my father's care. I felt comfortable knowing that he was being taken care of by such a thoughtful team of nurses. "
