The Best Nursing Home Communities in Polk County, FL

"I was at Highlands Lake Center. The physical facility was very old and very poor. It was 150 yards away from my house. I could see it from across the street. Their rehab resources were very, very good. They had the most impressive rehab capability of anyone. They had an incredible staff of a dozen rehab specialists, so even though the facility is poor looking, the care they give you is very good. I was there for 110 days or plus. There were some very professional nurses and very unprofessional nurses, but the rehab staff was quite professional. The living facilities were very old and very dreary and needed investments of six figures at least. The rehab facilities were good together with a massive staff of a dozen rehab people."

"The staff at Lakeland Hills Center is pretty good. I'm happy with it and my brother who's a resident is happy as well. He has a TV which he enjoys. They also go to places all the time, like to Walmart, or department stores, and all that."

"My brother is in Palm Terrace. He is in a nursing home with hospice. I can't say anything bad about them; they're all good. They're doing everything well. Their rooms are small. My brother is at end of life, and it is not too comfortable to be in there for any length of time -- and we do stay there for a long time -- so that's probably the only thing about that I haven't been happy about. He has hospice now with them, and my relative is sitting on a hard chair, I had one that is a little more comfortable, but it is not great. They have a lot of activities, but we haven't paid too much attention to them because my brother is beyond that. What I like about this facility is that it is very clean, it is very convenient to me, and the staff is very nice. "

"I was in Astoria for rehabilitation after total knee surgery. The staff there are fantastic! Threapy Department was great both for PT and OT. Activity Department, Marcy and her staff, Angie etc were great and made sure there were daily activities, outings and movies planned for every day of the week. They catered to all needs and abilities! Nurses and CNA"s made you feel at home and really cared about us and helped with any problems we were having! Love them all! I was there for a month and leaving was hard as I made so many great friends, both staff and residents! Never have I felt so welcomed and cared for as I did while there! Nancy at the gift shop aka the surf shop greeted you with a loving smile making you feel like family! Would highly recommend Astoria to all who need rehabilitation or who are looking for assisted living. I really loved it there and loved the way all the staff was so helpful in aiding in any way possible! Astoria is #1 in my book!!!"

"I did go to Bellatage Assisted Living. I didn’t pursue it. My friend was there, and she was bored out of her mind that she wanted to go home. They didn’t have enough activities. I know they have a movie theater, but she was still determined to go home. The room was very nice. It was very nice and meticulously clean, but she wouldn’t stay there. They have a group lunchroom and a movie theater, but she was bored out of her mind. My friend did not like that place at all, even though it was meticulously clean, and they have updated appliances, which was very nice. "

"Florida Presbyterian has a large community. They have life care and they are rated 5-star by the State of Florida. They just built a new addition of independent living apartments which are stunning and they're on a lake. You don't have to be Presbyterian but my husband is an ordained Presbyterian minister. His mother has been there for almost 40 years so we're very familiar with the place. My problem is I don't prefer Florida. If we can get around that, that's probably the best place to be but it's not totally what we want to do. I would certainly recommend this place. "

"I'm at the rehab center of Breezy Hills Rehabilitation & Care Center in Lakeland, and they've been good to me. They're very friendly, and on top of things, as far as medical. For instance, I had an awful rash on my leg, and they took care of it and had specialists come in and check it out. They've also been very good at applying medication when it's needed. The staff here is very nice and very helpful. You could talk to anybody here about your problems, and they're willing to open up and help you. I haven't had any problems with any of the staff here. I can come and go as long as I let somebody know where I'm going. The place is very clean. The food is so-so, but they're very active here. They have crafts and other things going on during the day. They have socials and things concerning the residents. They have an activity room and a nice dining room where you can go and have your meals. You could also have the meals in your room; either way is okay. I've been in rehab centers to visit, and this is by far the nicest. I would recommend it to anybody."

"The Oakbridge healthcare center is an great place for short/long term care. They have a modern facility with all the comforts of home. The rooms are very spacious and designed with care. The staff is highly trained, informative, and very caring. The staff has daily activity planned throughout the day for members to participate in. The staff is very accommadating for many of your families needs. They offer transportation to and from Dr. Visits and many other destinations. The facility has a security policy that will ease your mind on the security of your family member. The facility has great dining menues for any picky eater. The food is prepared with their diet in mind. The staff is fantastic and will befriend your loved one, just like mine. If you want your loved one to feel like they are right at home, this is the place. This facility is just short of a vacation resort, your love one will be sure to love. "

"Scott Lake Health and Rehabilitation Center was very beautifully designed. You had a private room. They had no bad nurses like the other facility did. Everyone is either professional or friendly, which is good enough for me. You always felt better at Scott Lake than you did at the other for instance. However, if the point of being there is not a hotel but a rehab, then other facilities were better. Scott Lake's rehab was very casual and you felt very comfortable being there, but the progress was also very leisurely and comfortable. Sometimes you want to be uncomfortable in rehab."

"I visited The Club at Lake Gibson. It was a beautiful place. It was a new facility, so it's very modern and updated. The staff was friendly. They had many dining rooms. They had an outside area. They had a movie room. They had a nice gym and rehab room. The rooms were very large."

"I know a lot of people who have been at Wedgewood Healthcare Center. I had visited some of them there, and occasionally when I would go in, there might be an odor, but when I would come out it was gone, but when you are working with old people on diapers that is to be expected. The floors are clean. The rooms are a good size and very nice. For two beds, they had plenty of room to move around. The staff were also very nice. They have lots of food, and they have a chef who tries very hard to plan good meals. The lady at the desk is very good about where the person you are visiting is at. "

"Estates at Carpenters was very nice and essentially decorated with the help of the residents. The food was very good. I like the environment, the safety, and the concerned people. The rooms and grounds were very nice. They have trees -- so that helps with the shade -- and the view was nice. It was very comfortable and pleasant. They had a pool and a gym with several work out machines, walking path, and bicycles. They have activities every day like games, movies, library, walking groups, and water aerobics type of things. "

"My mother was at Valencia hills rehab on a respite for 5 days. She suffers from dementia and is very aggressive at times she can be a hand full. The social worker and Nurses kept me informed when she needed something done like cut her nails and hair because she won't let me do it.They called me and asked if they could.When mom came home she was happy and said she had a nice time.That was a plus for me. So Thank you staff at Valencia hills you guys are ROCK STARS!!!"

"Four years ago, My husband was at the Rohr Home for 5 1/2 months. The care and cleanliness of this facility was amazing. The nurses, and CNA’s are attentive and extremely caring, best in Polk County! Maintenance is the best I have seen in any facility (I actually worked in several myself). The management is top notch starting with the Director of this home. I thank God for this facility in our county! The rooms are clean and adequate! I had a great relationship with the staff. In fact, they are my friends! Pam, the Activities Director is amazing! She plans parties for the staff on a regular basis. She has Volunteers come in to help with craft days. She coordinates local entertainment; musicals, church services, plays, volunteers to call monopoly, exercise programs, Christmas parties, plays and gift sharing. She as well as the other directors visit the residents. The staff reminds the residents that it is their home!"
