Jewish Home of Rochester fits my husband's level of care, so it is good. It is one of the better places in the area. So far, the staff seems to be okay. It is a pretty nice community, and it is clean. In terms of value for the money, it is very expensive. The people that are there are very attentive to the families and the residents.

There was a mistake in to what services I needed, so result was disappointing. My daughter panicked when I fell down and injured my arms/skin. So I was admitted to the intense care level floor. I soon recovered after a few days and discovered the floor was stuffed with demented and "acting out" patients. I walked around and staff thought I was a guest. Patients were kept in their rooms except for meals. I left after 3 costly weeks at rate of $550. per DAY. I did not need the level of services. I moved to a very nice assisted living residence where I am happy. Be sure you are patient in placing your "loved one", so as to pay for only needed support.

The facility is nice, but it’s really about the care. My family member is there. The staff are wonderful. I have seen true affection and kindness many, many times. No one wants to be in a nursing home, but if it has to be so, the Jewish Home of Rochester is probably the best one could possibly do.

This is a terrible place to go. I tried calling a friend of mine at Wolk Manor to tell him that a friend of his had suffered a stroke and they refused to connect me to his room. For security reasons they said. This is like the a police state. Whys should someone in a nursing home not be allowed to have people call them unless they have the number? Any hotel in the US will connect you to a person's room without giving out the room number. I called twice and left messages for this person and he never got them. What a nasty place to live.

After a fall resulting in badly broken leg, I thought I was fortunate to get admitted to the rehab therapy program at the Jewish Home. Far from it. Not only was the facility dirty and the smell almost intolerable, my bed hospital style bed was terribly uncomfortable and the heat wasn't working. Staff did not care. I was told the therapy schedule and it never took place. I was there nearly 3 weeks and had perhaps 5 actual therapy sessions. I was told all of the "good" staff had transferred to the new Green Houses area, and this left the rehab short staffed. The meals were also just disgusting and not edible. I had to argue with nurses to allow me to take a shower each day. Administrators had an excuse for why the care was so bad (sabbath schedule, holiday schedule, short staffing, etc) but at the end of my stay, they still presented me with a hefty bill despite not receiving the care I had been promised in any way. I can't believe any of the good reviews when I know first hand that my stay there was by far completely lacking and detrimental to my recovery.

Terrible place to go. My friend is in there and he had $350 cash stolen from his room. Instead of tying to find out who stole his money they told him not to keep any cash in his room. These people are like the gestapo.

Jewish Home of Rochester was very nice, bright, and welcoming, which was important. The people were very nice and the rehab seemed to be very thorough. They did a lot of different things. The dining area was very nice. The people who helped me were nice and accommodating.

Jewish Home was very nice. The food was very good. They had a barber system set up for the men. Their expense was more than I could handle.

We went to see The Summit at Brighton. I did not like it at all. First of all, you have to give a very large endowment. Also, it is all apartments, and I didn’t really care for the layout of the apartments especially for the cost. And it’s very spread out. If my mother wanted to go from her apartment to the pool, it was quite a long walk. It had a more nursing home feel than independent living. They were very friendly, though. They had long corridors, and the apartments were far away from the dining room, but it just didn’t have that homey feeling. I would give the staff a 5 because they were fantastic.

My mom is in Jewish Home of Rochester. She first went there as a rehab patient and ended up staying there. The facility is large and has some wonderful caregivers. They try very hard and do a pretty good job considering the amount of people there and the amount of care that's needed. It's very satisfactory. It took a long time to get the labels from the laundry. I think they have since hired some new people, but sometimes they need more people to care for everybody. They do a pretty good job. Nobody's idle. If I were to make a suggestion, it's to add more people, aides, or nurses.

Over the course of 5 years, our mom transitioned 3 or 4 times to higher levels of care due to the progression of Parkinson's disease. This transition began with going from independent living to enhanced assisted living, and everything in between within a 5-year period, including approximately 20 hospitalizations. We experienced quite a bit as a family over this period of time (some good-some bad), so when it was time for a nursing home, we wanted to be absolutely certain that we made the right decision. Over the course of 1 month we visited approximately 5 nursing homes. We chose The Jewish Home of Rochester because it seemed to be top notch compared to the others.....It was the best decision we could have ever made. Mom has been there for nearly 6 months, and continues to get the very best care. The entire staff, including the nurse's assistants care for our mom as if she was one of their family members. The head nurse on Mom's floor is dynamic and totally on the ball. The dietitian staff, social worker and activities director are equally as fantastic. Our mom has an exceptionally-complex medication schedule, and the staff has done a great job managing her medically. They have a very impressive activities schedule compared to other facilities. Although our mom doesn't participate in all of the activities they offer, their resident activities schedule is second to none. Walking into the main entrance feels like walking into a new hotel and not a nursing home. The lobby, gift shop, delicatessen and dining area is bright and beautiful. We always say that The Jewish Home doesn't feel like a nursing home, it feels like a community!

We visited The Summit at Brighton, and I found the staff very pleasant, accommodating, and knowledgeable. They have variety of apartments to offer the residents. They also have assisted living and nursing care facilities so there is a continuum. We have sampled the food, and it’s very good. They work in conjunction with a couple of colleges, so they bring in musical groups and all that. I think they really do a good job at that. They also provide transportation to the residents.

While the facility looks lovely, there is a lot to be desired. Staff is inadequate for the number of patients. Lots of promises made about care, but never kept. Dining rooms way too crowded and I can't believe that for safety purposes this is allowed. Way too many wheelchairs and walkers and no place to move around without tripping. Inadequate staff in cases of emergencies. All of that being said, some of the staff was very helpful, but I would look further before placing a relative or loved one there.

My mother was most comfortable at Jewish Home. The staff always got back to me whenever I had a problem. Communication was very good. I think it’s very clean. They could improve on the food a little bit. My mother complains about it a lot. I think they’re pretty good to my mother.

I felt that in general the place was fairly welcoming. However I felt that the staff were not as easy going as I may have expected of an assisted living facility. It seemed as though many treated it like it was nothing more than a job. To me, a place like this should have staff that are very welcoming to helping anyone and everyone out that are associated with the company... but this did not seem like the case. The residents of this assisted living facility overall seemed content but at the same time I think their level of contentment could have been increased greatly had the staff been more welcoming in their actions. Instead of treating it like a job, they should be treating it as something they enjoy doing. The facility as far as the environment though was relatively nice but could probably use some renovations and new decorations.

I visited the Summit with my parents a few years ago, when my grandmother was considering moving to the area and was weighing the pros and cons of assisted living facilities. Although she did not end up residing in this facility, to me it seemed to be a wonderful, warm community with a great number of top-notch amenities, friendly and active residents, and an extremely competent staff. One thing that seemed to be very well-planned about the Summit was its very close proximity to a nursing home, meaning that, should residents eventually need an increased level of care, they would not have to be greatly uprooted from their homes, and would still be able to maintain relationships that they had formed with other residents. On the whole, the Summit seemed to me to be an excellent community, with a great number of features that made it stand out from the rest.

My husband and I were patients in the transitional care unit of the Jewish Home Nursing Facility. It has been two years since we were there and not a day goes by that we don't think of it. It was a home away from home. The care was exceptional. The doctor on staff, nurses, and aids were so attentive and caring. I can't praise the facility enough
