The Bronx is a vibrant metropolitan area in New York state with a diverse population of 1,432,132 people, 12.3% of whom are aged 65 years and older. Besides the borough’s world-famous attractions, such as the Bronx Zoo and the New York Botanical Gardens, seniors can also enjoy being in close proximity to an extensive public transportation network that offers a reduced fare for retirees. The Bronx has five dedicated senior centers covering a wide range of needs, from exercise and nutrition classes to computer training and health services. Seniors can seek out additional resources and financial assistance from the abundant national, state and regional senior-specific, nonprofit organizations with chapters in the area.
To help seniors discover the most senior-friendly locations around the country, Caring.com conducted a new study, “The Best and Worst Places for Senior Living.” The Caring Senior Living Report analyzes and ranks 300 cities and 50 states on the quality of senior living in that area. The cities were graded using 46 metrics across five categories: Health Care, Senior Living & Housing, Affordability, Quality of life, and Transportation.
