I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother loves Waltonwood University. She loves the people, the environment, and the location. The staff is very friendly. She has a one-bedroom, one-bath apartment. They have dining, activities, trips, bus service, car service, laundry, beauty salon, activity center, library, and cafe. We chose it because of the location; it's close to our home. They provide two meals.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I'm in Waltonwood University. It's fine. There's nothing wrong with it at all. It's beautiful. I got a good deal. I got a thousand dollars off my rent, so I got exactly what I wanted. The staff is perfect. I have no problems. It's very clean. The rooms are very spacious to me, at least on the independent side. There is lots of closet space. The dining area is good. It's not like you're going to a very expensive restaurant, but it's OK. You get a Continental breakfast in the morning and then you get a full meal at night. The food is average. They have lots of activities, except we don't have a bus driver to go to different places outside right now. The bus driver has retired. They have an exercise room and they do different types of exercises, like balance exercises. They do light chair exercises, stretching exercises, and those kinds of things. If you get a special, it's worth it, because it would almost cost you as much to live in an apartment around here when you get down to buying food and everything else. At least they give you two choices, but they could have a little bit more food.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My parents are residents of the independent living of Waltonwood at University, and we like the place very much. The dinner-time food could probably be a little bit better, but overall, we're very pleased with it. The staff is very friendly, efficient, and responsive to the needs of the residents. It's very pretty there, the grounds are pretty, and the facilities are very nice. It's also in a good location. My parents did not get one of the remodelled rooms, but their room is very clean, they painted it and everything, so it's very nice. The only problem would be that the balcony is in need of repair, but they're getting that done. It's a good enough size for two people. I like the dining area, it's a very open and area, and it's set up restaurant style so it's very nice. They have a lot of activities, there are about four to five a day, and my mother has gotten involved in Sit and Be Fit, walking club, Wii bowling, and the garden club. I would rate their food with a three because my mother isn't really happy with the dinners.

Wonderful community! It’s like a stationary cruise ship! The management truly cares about the well being of their clients. Would highly recommend!

I visited community and it was a great experience. Apartments are renovated, activities happening and residents looked happy. My tour with Kim was top notch, she is fantastic! Spent time with us and did not rush us. I appreciated that. There is a lot to offer and location is fantastic. Even though this is an older building and not one of the new builds, it is kept up nicely and very home like atmosphere. Reputation is very good and I have friends that live there. I rather that over a place I never heard of to be honest. I give 5 star because my experience was wonderful. Thank you.

I was really disappointed in our tour of Waltonwood on University. Especially after experiencing tours at other facilities. I expected them to sit down with us and find out what we were looking for, ask about my Dad and sell us on the strengths of this facility. We got a basic tour by someone who seemed indifferent and not very engaging. The activity room looked like a old broken down classroom. The place had no positive energy and seemed like a ghost town. I was very disappointed especially at the price point. Rent was $2000 more a month than some other facilities and their rooms weren't any better and the facility was worse. They need to train their people on giving a more exciting tour. Other places sit down with you to discuss the options, offer refreshments, send you home with a pie or a box of cookies, smile and are truly interested in their job and excited about providing a fun place for your senior to live. Huge disappointment. You need to change out your staff. They don't look happy to work there.

I loved the location of Waltonwood. They're redoing the rooms, but the kitchens were so tiny, they're too narrow for a walker, and they didn't put microwaves in the school. I also didn't like that they had assigned sittings for dinner. The management there was so nice, and they were top-notch. The dining room was too old, and too small; they need to redo it.

I am/was a resident of this facility

When I first went to visit Waltonwood at University, the staff knew all the residents by name. There is a shopping mall right next door. The staff is very friendly, very thoughtful, take care of you, and talk to you. I can walk down the hallway, and they call me by my name. I have a one-bedroom apartment, and it's very adequate. I am fortunate enough to be on the 1st floor with a patio door right off to the outside, so it's very convenient. They keep us busy all day with the activities. We have bridge, pinochle, or euchre. We have movies almost every night during the week.

Waltonwood wasn't as cheery a place but it was very nice. I think it was a little older but they were improving it. Nevertheless, it was conveniently located as it was right next to a shopping center. The residents and staff there were very friendly. They didn't have as many selection on the menu for meals but it was fine. This would be a place that I would really choose.

Friend or relative of resident

A couple of years ago, my Mom moved into Walton Wood from a small condo in Troy. She wasn't thrilled about moving out of her condo, however, she absolutely loves WW. The staff is fabulous - caregivers who actually care. I live in California, and feel so far away, but am comfortable because my Mom is at Walton Wood.
