I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My parents have been at Candlestone for over a year now. My Mom is in assisted living, and my Dad is in Memory Care, so I’ve seen everything the community has to offer. Overall my parents have been happy and well looked after, and that makes me very happy and grateful. The staff are warm and friendly, the food is good (yes I’ve tried the food), they always have fun activities for the residents, and the facility is clean and inviting. I routinely “pop in” to visit unannounced and I’m always impressed with the level of care and attention I see between the staff and the residents. In fact, I’ve gotten to know some of the staff, and I can attest they are committed to the highest level of care. They always have a smile on their face, and they always go the extra mile for the residents. When I began my search for an assisted living facility for my parents I visited several throughout Midland, and Candlestone impressed me the most. Since then I’ve been very happy with my decision, and so have my parents. I highly recommend Candlestone to anyone in need of an assisted living facility.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I am a resident of Candlestone Assisted Living. I have been here approximately six months. I like the people who work here. All of the caregivers are kind and thoughtful. The best part is they have a good attitude. No matter how tired they are, they always smile. They are willing to help you with anything you might need. I just feel like that this place particularly is home to me. I just sold my house and I was able to bring my furniture, my oil paintings, everything that I was accustomed to living with. They were so kind to let me arrange it and to bring what I needed to make me feel like I was still at home. It has not been hard for me to adjust. I know that if I should fall, within five to seven minutes, I would have someone here to help me get back in my wheelchair. I am a very independent stubborn Southern woman and I am accustomed to being independent and they allow me to do that here knowing that if I need help or assistance in any way, they are available. The fact that the food is very, very good is also a plus. I have a nice-sized living room and an adjoining bedroom. It is large enough that I was able to use my queen-sized bed and a lot of my other furniture. When I opened the closet door and saw the space, I think I could have put a mattress in the closet because it has such a good hanging space and it's large and very convenient. They have good music entertainment probably once a month or every six weeks. They are talented people and they give us the uplift that we need. They talk with us and ask our opinion on what we prefer. They have so many other activities that are available. They have a good selection of reading books, and they have movies. They will ask your opinion and then they organize something with a group of people that are interested in the same thing. I feel very good here. I like meeting the other residents and finding out what they did in their life before they moved here and it's really been a joy for me to know that I have this comfortable place that I feel like is a second home. They are loving. They will come in and ask you how you feel. They come in and check on you to be sure you're OK if they have not seen you or heard from you in several hours. They will also knock on your door to remind you it's dinnertime or lunchtime. They are very attentive and I would hate to have the responsibility of having to replace any of them if I were the head person. Finding people like the ones that I associate with every day would be very hard to do. They keep it up beautifully and it's well decorated. The furniture they have in the lobby is comfortable, but it is well decorated in the sense that it looks like it belongs together. There's enough variety of people that are retired that you can find, someone to talk with, smart and interesting and up-to-date.

Candlestone is a very clean, pleasant facility. Staff is very friendly and willing to help in any way needed. My mom was given extra attention and compassion during her first few days at candlestone in helping her adjust to her new surroundings.

There are a variety of room sizes at different price points, so an individual situation can be accommodated. Depending on changing circumstances of current residents, change in room size needs are possible. The staff are all friendly and very attentive to specific needs. The food service should be improved, as some food arrives incomplete ( a cheeseburger should have cheese) , and sometimes is served only lukewarm. The facilities are in good condition, and provide a quiet and welcoming atmosphere.

Provider Response

Hi Fred, Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We're glad to hear that you found our staff friendly and attentive. We appreciate your feedback on the culinary experience and always encourage residents and families to connect with our Executive Chef about possible improvements. If you would like to discuss your review with us, please call us and ask to speak with our Executive Director. Thank you!

I visited this facility

I toured Candlestone Assisted Living. I like the airiness of the architecture, the atmosphere, and the cleanliness. They had a great courtyard for the residents to be able to look out their windows and enjoy the visual outside. Some of the apartments have a walkout patio into that courtyard so the residents can be outside at their leisure. We've dined twice there for lunch, and the food was very good. We're pleased that it is 90% from scratch. I'll presume that the rest of the meals are as good as the lunches that we have. The facility looks to be in very good condition. I met the sales staff, the chef, and the executive director, and they're very pleasant people.

Provider Response

Hi Gene, Thank you for your review! We love hearing about your positive tour and dining experience with us. We have an amazing team that makes it all happen. Have a great day.

EVERY staff member has been so pleasant, friendly, welcoming, and helpful. I can't say enough about how good the staff is to both the residents and their families. The facility is bright and cheerful and my mother-in-law's room is very large and beautiful, with large windows and lots of space.

Staff really care but they are busy! Be patient and don't be afraid to give reminders when needed. They have a lot going on. Families and Friends can play a very important and helpful role by simply being friendly and helpful to residents and staff alike. Activities and conversations make all the difference in the success of your loved one so get involved whenever possible. Rooms are more like small apartments- very spacious and pleasant. Several styles to choose from. Very friendly staff-always smiling.

My Mother In Law is a resident at Candlestone. The transition has not always been smooth, but the support from the Staff has been phenomenal. The administration is very hands on. Alison, Genna, Mackenna, Anderea, Angie, Madison, Shelby, Celia and Sydney consistently go above and beyond. I certainly have missed a few names, but our family is grateful for them just the same. The Love, patience and compassion given to not only our Mother, but to our family to be able to adjust has been something we could never explain. It’s been a complete game changer.

Provider Response

The staff at Candlestone has been wonderful to work with. Marcie (Executive Director), Rob RN, Nurse Tammy and Celia (one of moms favorite helpers). They all have made this transition for our mother moving into Candlestone a lot easier. Communication was always there. No matter what time or what the issue was. . We could not have done it without all their help. They are a wonderful caring team. My brother and I greatly appreciate them.

Provider Response

Hi Neil, Thank you for your review! We loved having your mom in our community. Our strong team makes it all possible, and we are thrilled that your mother-in-law gets to experience all that we offer as well. Have a great day!

The staff at Candlestone Assisted living are all very attentive and caring for all the residents at the facility. The facility is warm and inviting when you come in, and the whole staff is very friendly and more than happy to help you if you need anything. Mom has made friends with several of the residents and is very comfortable living there. It is comforting to know that she has nothing to worry about living there, as she is getting the best care.

The staff is very responsive and caring. They helped my mother acclimate to her new room and living environment. They were very encouraging and kind. The facility does not smell like a hospital but instead always smells fresh and clean (but not institutional clean). It is extremely well kept with daily entertainment and things to do for the residents. My mother enjoys the food, which says a lot since she is very picky. My interaction with the staff has always been a positive experience. I would recommend Candlestone to anyone looking for a clean and safe environment for their loved one.

The staff is caring and loving, and the executive director has gone far beyond the call of duty in helping my parents make the challenging transition to assisted living. They helped facilitate the sale of my parents home by printing and scanning various documents for the out-of-town realtor and title company, and they remain calm when my parents become “dramatic.”

Candlestone is a welcoming community that is Perfect for my parents. The staff is great, always available to answer any questions. The rooms are nicely sized and kept clean. My parents enjoy the food ; stating that they get plenty to eat. There is plenty of activities but my parents are loners who enjoy just staying in their apartment. It’s a very quiet and peaceful environment.

We moved our Dad into CandleStone a few months ago and the experience has truly been amazing. We lost our mom October of last year. She was our Dad’s full time caregiver after he had a severe stroke, that left him unable to move most of his left side. As a family, we tried to take on the role of caring for him, but we could not give him the level of care he needed while working ourselves. We made the hard decision to look for assisted living homes for him. Upon walking into CandleStone with my aunt and mother-in-law, we were all amazed. From the initial safety when entering, to the vaulted ceiling, bright, open dining and common areas, and the friendly staff who greeted us; we love it! CandleStone is a clean and beautiful place. The rooms are a good size where you don’t feel cramped and the bathrooms are huge for his wheelchair! Our Dad loves to sit outside and the courtyard is so pretty with its flowers, garden and walkways. Some residents have their animals living with them and we bring our dog for visits as well. We love they allow this because animals bring joy to so many and boost the spirits of the residents! The caring nature of each staff member we have spoken and interacted with has been wonderful. They joke and tease with the residents, which our Dad loves! They come quickly if he needs any kind of assistance, all he has to do is hit his button. They have been great about cutting his food up, shaving and many other small things to help him after his stroke left him struggling to do simple things. Any issues our Dad has they call us right away just to let us know and we truly appreciate that. The strong communication by all staff makes us feel very confident in the care he is receiving. We also love all the activities our Dad gets the opportunity to participate in from daily exercises to ice cream socials, movie nights, bingo, corn hole and many more! Our Dad also is receiving therapy to maintain his abilities after his stroke. The ED Marcie, has been a strong advocate for him to get the continued therapy he needs and we are so thankful. Finding a place for a family member or anyone who is important to you is not easy. You fear they won’t be taken care of or loved the way you love them. As a family, we can say that the staff at CandleStone has put our mind at ease because they treat him like family. They have allowed our family to go back to being just our Dad’s kids who get to come visit and hang out with him. Caregiving is one of the most difficult and challenging jobs there is and the staff at CandleStone make it look and feel easy. They love what they do! If you’re looking for a place for your loved one to be loved and cared for the way you do for them, then CandleStone is the place for your family member

Facility is nice, well kept and clean. They do a great job decorating the common areas to keep the place feeling comfortable. The courtyard outside is also well kept and a nice place for your friend/family member to spend time. There are 3 room layouts and you can decorate to make your loved ones space feel more homie, each room possessing a large bay window or sliding door which is nice. They have a newer activities Director and she seems to do a good job planning activities for the residents in AL. It would be helpful for the facility to have a transportation van available to the residents for additional outings/appointments since most give up their vehicles when they move in. There is a good selection of menu items and they offer “alternatives” for each meal - when a resident doesn’t like the main dish, which is helpful. The biggest challenge is that the turnover is high across all staff (CNA’s, Directors, and even the hair stylist). They do have a few employees who have been there for an extended period of time and those people are very helpful and caring - the ones you come to rely on.

Provider Response

Hello, Thank you for your review. We are so happy you are enjoying Candlestone and our caring staff. Although we don't currently have a shuttle, if residents are in need of transportation we can work with them directly, as we have a few options. We understand the importance of consistent staffing and have recently been taking steps to improve. If you have any further questions or concerns please contact our community and ask to be put in contact with our Regional Operations Manager. Thank you.

I visited this facility

We toured Candlestone Assisted Living & Memory Care. If you look at the checklist of what you would be looking to hopefully find something favorable, it's all the amenities and the logistics and everything, and certainly all of the staff people. The staff was friendly, informative, and looked very happy. We didn't try the food, but we heard all good things from residents when we talked with them. They have a salon, a theater, they had outdoor seating areas and a walkway around the facility.

I've got my mom in Candlestone Assisted Living, which I'm very, very pleased with. It has been amazing. It's really great. The staff is awesome. I've seen the food and it is really good. They have bingo and coloring sheets. They have these different places like Brazil and Germany, and they teach them about it. It was really good when I saw it. They have a little refrigerator and a cable TV in their room.
