"From the initial meeting and walk through with family members to move in, administration and staff have been extremely professional. Our mother and family have been welcomed and treated with the utmost respect and care. The family atmosphere between staff and residents has given family comfort in knowing that our mother is in the best of care. She has the best opportunity for success and comfort, she refers to her apartment as home. "

"McKellar Adult Foster Care is clean. They're very caring, and they have all home-cooked meals. They have rocking chairs on the covered porch, so you can sit outside and enjoy the weather. They have individual rooms with individual bathrooms. They have a room where everybody can congregate to watch TV or play games. They do games weekly. It's been so far a great experience. The staff is very caring. The room is large and holds all the stuff my mom needs, her bed, two chairs, a dresser, and her TV, and the bathroom is sufficient. The people that work there are very caring and very giving. They help her only with showers and sometimes with getting dressed. They do bingo, Euchre, and movie nights where they do movies and popcorn. It's a good value for money."

"My grandmother was brought to this facility about two years ago. She was suffering from Alzheimer's. It broke my heart to have to put her somewhere like that, because I knew it wasn't what she wanted. She was so independent, and this just killed her to have to give in to other people doing things for her. The first time I went to visit her, I couldn't wait to bash the place, mostly because I thought it was what my grandma wanted to hear. The second I pulled up, though, I had nothing but wonderful thoughts. The community is adorable, to say the least. The staff made me feel so comfortable, and although they helped my grandma out in so many ways, they made her feel like she was independent and able to do things for herself. My grandma has always been a wonderful cook, and even SHE admitted that the food wasn't bad at all! Best of all, though, is that the staff took the time to sit down with me as I was leaving and explain how my grandma was doing. They were compassionate and understood why this was hard on not only my grandma, but on me as well. I would absolutely recommend this place to family looking for a safe, loving haven for their loved ones. "

"I have chosen Rosewood I for my parents. They accept Medicaid waivers, while the others do not. They are Johnny-on-the-spot, and they are taking good care of my parents. If they are happy, I'm happy. My mom has dementia and they took her. They also have one guy that is over 100 years old. Everybody is very nice. My parents like the food, too. It is a big white building with big pillars at the front. It looks like the White House in Washington, DC, and that's what hooked my parents on it. They love it. Regarding activities, they're not into that stuff. They just want to do their own thing. They have activities, though."

"Merrill Fields Assisted Living was more geared toward people that need a little bit more hands-on help. They help with their medications and getting them in and out of their beds, and they prepare meals for them. The rooms were nice, but not so homey. It's almost like a hospital setting. The facility was clean and well maintained. The staff was great and accommodating. The building was beautiful, very well decorated, and very inviting on the outside."

"Applewood Assisted Living Facility is a great facility for most elderly or disabled people. Overall, the grounds are well kept and beautifully decorated. However, despite the landscaping being great, there are no pavilions or walking trails for residents to enjoy the outdoors in. In fact, there is very little outdoor space provided at all. A good thing about the facility, though, is the food. There is a pretty good selection of food and it is all pretty well prepared. It is not quite the normal assisted living facility food that you would expect, however it is nothing special either. The rooms are spacious and quite homey. Also, the facility is not as strict as some others, making it seem more like a living community than an assisted living facility. The nurses are also very friendly and skilled. They not only know what they are doing as far as medically, but they are great with keeping patients up to date with medication and being real friends to the residents. Overall, it is a pretty good facility. "

"The facility has just gone through a beautiful renovation. It is lovely and so comfortable for the residents, The rooms are so comfortable having their own bathrooms and little kitchen areas. I did not eat there, but the food always smelled delicious and I know they gave the residents what they wanted and special treats. The staff were all so wonderful and caring to my sister-in-law while she was there. She was not always easy to care for, but they stayed on top of her needs. The had fun and creative activities for the residence, from music, doing their nails, tea parties, happy hour, and special crafts for holidays. There are outdoor places to sit and the staff often will have special activities or treats outdoors. Mt. Pleasant is a nice town with many restaurants and activities with the college right there."

"My sister moved into Country Friends. She enjoys it, and she's happy there. There are only, I think, 20 residents, but they do have activities. And she likes her food, so that's good. We chose Country Friends because everyone who worked there seemed happy. Her room is small, but it's private."

"I visited my sister at Green Acres Mt. Pleasant and shared lunch with the people there and it was lovely. They were very welcoming with a very comfortable feeling. They gave lots of support. I had stew for lunch with a biscuit, a good salad, a lemonade, and chocolate cake. We asked a couple of people about maintenance and they said "Oh, you'll love him. He takes great care of everybody." At Green Acres Mt. Pleasant, you pay the price and that includes all the assistance. They have a patio and they were putting furniture out today. It was almost 70 degrees and sunny and warm. It was just wonderful. One of the biggest reasons why we chose them, was when you walk in, it looks homey. You walk down the hall and they have fake tall trees and ivy and stuff to make it look like you're walking down a boulevard."

"New Hope is a small community that houses about 20 elderly people. It is a privately owned center. There is always at least one staff member on duty. The owner is very active in the daily routine and maintenance of the home. The home is very well kept and brightly decorated. The staff explained to me that they tried to do a craft or visit the community center at least once a week with a group of clients. Each client has their own room with a bathroom and special bed that can be raised or lowered. I remember a client who was not very coherent and couldn't stand on her own. The staff helped her to the bathroom, helped her take a shower, and did many other things for her. The staff were very friendly to this client and treated her with a great amount of respect. Routine is very important to this center. All meals are served in the common dining area. If a client skips a meal, they are not allowed to have any snacks until the next meal is served. I thought that was a little harsh and demeaning. I could also tell that some of the clients were very bored. I sat with one client at a table and we talked about her family and children. Then we literally stared at the wall (it was painted into a raised texture) and looked for patterns or objects. Kind of like how you stare at clouds and look for things in them. Overall, the home seemed like a very pleasant place to live. "

"The Roosevelt House was beautiful. It's perfect. The staff was wonderful, upbeat, and very informative. We loved everything about it. It's just we're not gonna be able to afford it. They had private rooms with private baths. They had outdoor activities. I saw a beauty parlor, a chapel, a study where they could go in and do puzzles and quiet things, a TV room, and an aviary. Outside, they had a garden and animals like deer, roosters, and chickens. It's brand new, and it's impeccably clean."

"Pine Haven Assisted Living went over to the rehab place where my aunt was at and they met her the night before she moved in there. They helped us get her in and out of the car when we got there. They They were very friendly with her. They got her to do some other stuff that the rehab place was not doing with her. So we didn't think she could do it on her own and she was actually doing a lot more than what she thought she could do once with their help. It is a small home with 15 people in it. They have a couple of days where they do crafts, they have a beautician that comes in once a week, and all their meals are homemade, nothing frozen. There's two to three people on staff during the day and they check in on them every two hours. They've got monitors all through the house so they can hear what's going on at the other end. They can also come and go with their family if they want to. They have a small spot that heads out to the big porch that they can go out on. It has a dining table down there so you can just sit, or if the family comes in, they could eat down there with you. They have a big bookcase full of books, sort of like a little library area, as well as wild animals outside, such as alpacas and chickens that people can watch and see out their windows."

"I like Margaret's Meadows, and I might pick this place for my father if I need to. They have a large open area where people can watch TV. There were cards and puzzles out and things the residents could engage in. They make all the food fresh. It was good to know that they either have a blender available or something to make sure the food is soft, which was one of our concerns. I would rate them the highest; I was very impressed. I met with the owner and got introduced to some of the staff members. They were engaged during the meal time when I was there, and a lot of the staff was helping people sit down to eat. Everything was nice and clean, and the place looked warm."
