I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My husband has been in Randall Residence of Auburn Hills, and he's doing very well. What made me choose them is he got his own room and the security there. The staff has been wonderful. His meals are made from scratch every day. I feel very secure there. Some caregivers are just absolutely above and beyond the call of duty. There are some there that are just wonderful, and I am so grateful. They have all kinds of activities. They have a bus that takes them on full-color rides. They're having a Thanksgiving dinner for families. They had a Halloween. They had going from summer to fall family events. They'll have a Christmas family event. You can go there at any time of the day; there are no visiting times. If I wanted to go at 3 in the morning, I could go at 3 in the morning. However, I think they could get a few more caretakers to put more eyes on people.

My Uncle resided at Harbor Chase for over 3 years. I feel they are more concerned with the money coming in then enhancing and actually caring about the residents. Usually understaffed. If you want to be there every day to take care of your loved one the way they should be taken care of then this is the place for you :-(

HarborChase of Auburn Hills is clean and adequate. It's not luxurious but it's pretty decent. The staff is helpful and they seem to have a willing spirit to learn. They seem to be compassion and caring which is very important. I'm just not sure how much specialized training they have especially in administering medication and medical procedures. My mother-in-law is in memory care. From time to time, they go to a restaurant. and do some sport-type events, although that's limited because some people can't walk well and there are people who are just vegetating there. The food though is very good. The place is very clean and the layout is good because it's simple and not confusing.

HarborChase of Auburn Hills is very good for my father-in-law. They really work very hard to make him happy. We go there almost every other day, and his room is kept very well. It seems that he likes the food and activities. They have bingo, puzzles, and sing-a-long.

Provider Response

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

IT IS SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 2 2017. I am not impressed. I went TO SEE MY BROTHER WHO IS THERE. I STOPED AT THE MAIN OFFICE (I THINK). I received directions to the building he is in and drove there. It was 0930 hours. I rang the bell several times, No one came to answer. So I went back to the first building and told her about that. She said she would meet me there and she did. I entered and saw my brother. He was unshaven in night gown. Apparently for 18 men there were two staff members. There is no help Button for the residents. He was sitting at a table. In talking to him he said he wanted to go home and for me to call his wife to come and get him. He has been there for several weeks. A staff member had to come to the door to disarm the alarm, apparently she was alerted by invisible senior staff to talk to me. She was nice. My impression. The two ladies did the best. I am sure they are underpaid (this is observaton. Certainly understaffed. Residents who can not shave themselves must be shaved daily. A Registered Nurse must be in each building 7 days days 24 hours. I can not recommend this facility, I am a UM graduate.

Provider Response

Thank you for taking the time to rate us. We’re glad that your brother and family made the decision to move to HarborChase. We are sorry to hear, however, that your first impression of our community wasn’t overly favorable. Although it sounds like you may have caught the community during a particularly busy moment, we believe that your next visit will be a more positive experience. We thank you again for your thoughts and we look forward to having another opportunity to get to know you.

I visited this facility

HarborChase of Auburn Hills is a beautiful, quiet facility. The residents who were out and about seemed lively, so that was great. It seemed like a good and very comfortable place. It's in a very busy, growing area, but the property was wide enough and set back in a nice little wooded setting, so it seemed very quiet and remote. The director I met with and a couple of staff members that I saw were outstanding. They were far more expensive. The packages were comparable but they were $1,500 more a month, so we just couldn't afford it. It was very open and had plenty of room for multiple wheelchairs so it's very spacious. The main house where my mom would have been was in a perfect circle so you couldn't get lost which was great and I loved it. I only saw the dining room briefly, but it looked modern. The place was very new and updated but homey for the age group. It was really nicely decorated with flowers for that age group. The calendar activities were very impressive. They stood out a little bit from the others, so I like that.

Provider Response

Thank you so much for taking the time to rate us, Sonja. We appreciate you considering our community for your mother. We also appreciate the kind words about our beautiful community, convenient location and wealth of activities available every day for our residents. One of the features we’re proud of at HarborChase is the tremendous value our residents and their family members receive. Every day, our residents enjoy innovative health services, delicious dining options through our Chef’s Fare Dining Program, housekeeping services and much, much more. If we can be of any service to you in the future, Sonja, please don’t hesitate to let us know. Again, we thank you for your review!

I liked the fact that Harborchase of Auburn Hills was homey. They have the usual activities at this facility. The staff was excellent, friendly, and helpful. The rooms and the hallways were a good size, and they had a very nice dining room. The lady who showed me around insisted I join her for lunch. They have a very nice and varied menu with great food.

I did visit HarborChase of Auburn Hills, and I did not like the place. It had a bad odor in certain places, and the manager who took me around didn’t have a complete set of keys, so there were places he could not get into. My impression was not a good one at all.

HarborChase was fine. Their food was not spectacular, but it was fine; the dessert was delicious. I think they make the food bland because of people’s special needs. My mom has Alzheimer's, and the place was a little too advanced into where my mom would be. I didn’t like it as well as the other 3 places that I visited, but I think it’s because of the kind of facility that it is. The HarborChase environment was excellent as far as security. It was very homey-looking.

This facility is okay, they seem to be trying to provide good care for all of the residents. They seem to be understaffed which makes me a little concerned for the safety of the residents. Also the staff is under paid which I believe doesn't allow them to acquire the most experienced caregivers. In my opinion they are really lacking in the activity area. The extent of the activities program seems to be sitting in a circle listening to a karaoke machine and eating snacks. During the warmer months they did take the residents out to movies or to restaurants, etc.

I placed my son in HarborChase. He is 43 years old, and he has Huntington's disease. He needs to go back into a facility, but HarborChase won't take him anymore because he smokes. My first impression of this place was good. It was very good. It was very clean. There were very attentive people. There were no odors. As for their rooms, there were private rooms. There was one person or a couple in a room. Regarding activities, every time I was there, there were no activities. They told me that they would take them to the movies, though my son wasn't there that long, but in that time, they never took him to the movies or anything like that, but they told me that they did.

HarborChase is a small facility so it worked well for my mom. There was a schedule every day, and they followed the activities such as bingo. They did a thing called reminiscing where they would sit and discuss their lives. I think there were 4 or 6 tables for each meal, so that was kind of a big deal like they sit around their meal tables for quite a while. Probably every week or two, there was an outing. They went to Culver’s for lunch. They had picnics. They went to cider mills in the fall. Once every week or two, they would bring in entertainment. They had family things like picnics and holiday parties. I also notice there was not a big turnover in the care staff. I was very impressed with the care workers. The every day people that mom dealt with were really good. It was interesting because they were the people that probably were the least appreciated and the least paid. They were really caring, and they would go out of their way. There was a big turnover of the administration. I felt like the administration there was a bit lacking. The upkeeping and cleanliness was very, very good. There was one maintenance man who was there all the time, and mom’s room was cleaned and vacuumed probably every other day. Her first impression when she walked in, she said it didn’t smell there. It’s very comfortable and very clean. I was very impressed.

Not impressed. I would never recommend this facility!! Definitely seek other facilities. Safety is a huge issue, the home is Understaffed and staff changed weekly. Residents had alot of bruises and cuts. My father was sent to hospital several times a month and medicated unnecessarily!! He started in assisted living which is much cleaner and nicer than the other buildings. Personal items were always missing and they were not big on personal hygiene.

I got a good impression of the people working in Harbor Chase. The manager was very nice. It was a very pretty place. The rooms were fairly big, but narrow. You can set up a sitting area and a bedroom. The rooms were designed so that all of them are situated in a circle; I suppose that’s why it's long and narrow. The food was pretty decent and better than most facilities. It was pretty expensive though.

I currently have a loved one at this facility. We feel so blessed to have found Harbor Chase of Auburn Hills. Actually, a doctor from a local hospital told us about Harbor Chase. Our loved one has been here 2 years and we have been more than happy here. The love and care received here has been wonderful, and the care managers are terrific. Each resident has their "issues" and the staff here knows their habits and quirks and they happily work with each one of them to make them comfortable, happy and well taken care of. They have made us feel like a part of their family. I highly recommend Harbor Chase to anyone looking for a facility for a loved one. Thank you Harbor Chase for all you do!

HarborChase was nice. It was like a high class hotel. But it was a bit expensive. The rooms were not very spacious. The staff was very nice and they treated us very well. I would recommend it to others, if they could afford it.

The staff was worked rather hard, and I felt bad for them. It took them a long time to do mostly anything at all. The facility itself was quite clean, and tidy, but the workers were under-paid, and overworked. I enjoyed the company of the old people they were rather sweet, and friendly. Some of them were out of their heads at this point, but we all get to that point when we grow old. I enjoyed spending time there, and would go back if only to help the old people, and staff. I wouldn't recommend it for my family members though.

Scary! No generator this past fall when power went out{10hrs without power}!Staff short{2 caregivers/20 residents, 1 caregiver/20 residents midnights{with 2 pages of cleaning chores},Food processed high in sodium,no water offered for hydration during day. Pest control in for ants numerous times, and now mice traps in one building. Unsafe, unclean, scary! Management offers nothing but excuses!!! Very disturbing!!!

I visited many facilites before chosing this one for a relative. The staff and enviroment are safe and secure. They make the resident feel good and keep them comfortable. They check on the residents very often. I would highly recommend Harbor Chase to anyone with Alzheimer's or other memory issues.
