"We toured Sunrise of Frederick. We were very impressed with the facilities, and the personnel. They seemed very enthusiastic about their job and very empathetic in their interactions with the residents. It doesn't have a lot of grounds, so that might be a little bit of a downside. It's a slightly older building, so they're showing age a little bit, but it is still very well-kept, clean, cheerful, and decorated well. They had a really cute little soda shop. Overall, it was nice. It was like the middle afternoon when we were there, so the residents were watching TV, some of them were taking part in a little craft project, and some of them were sitting and reading and stuff."

"The community is lovely and full of life. The caregivers care about my mom and treat her with respect and dignity. When I visit or call in with a question I am always made to feel like I can call anytime or stop in for questions without being a bother. You know you have the right place when you can visit any day and any time and you get the same friendly staff."

"My sister is at Spring Arbor of Frederick. We chose it, because of the closeness to her residence where her home was and the facility is nice. We liked the appearance of the single bedroom and the apartment type of living. They have a lot of amenities. Their dining area is very nice. It's normal food and it's three meals a day. The facility is very clean. The staff is very pleasant, outgoing, and nice."

"I toured Paramount Senior Living at Chambersburg. It's an absolutely beautiful setting. It's in the mountains. The grounds were spacious, wooded, and well-kept. The independent living area was very nice. The apartments there are large and all one-bedroom. They're very spacious. The staff who accommodated us was the manager of the facility, and she was informative, positive, and very helpful. The dining area for independent living was small but very clean. They were in the process of cooking dinner, which smelled very good. They had bingo activities. They had trips to the local theaters. I can't remember everything that was on the activity list, but it was a very full activity from what I remember. If I could convince my mother to move in there today, I would."

"The facility is clean, residents are considered "family." We go every couple of weeks and can enter without staff knowing we are there. I've never seen any incident where residents were being mistreated, yelled at, etc... I've only seen staff treat the patients with care and consideration. "

"We're moving into the Homewood at Williamsport. We like the fact that it was quieter and smaller than most of the other places that we looked at on the outside. They supply a refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher in the apartment. The staff was terrific. They have courtyards, the pool is inside, and there are walking paths. We chose the place that we did because they had a unique apartment available. It was a cottage, basically, and it was combined into one. It was two separate ones combined into one that one of the previous owners had taken a wall out and it became much larger, it's like 1968 square feet. So it's quite attractive. It was a nice and quiet location and everyone was very nice. All the people that we talked to who lived there were very, very nice and appreciative, and enjoyed living there. So that was important to us."

"We got my loved one into Elisabeth House. They provide three meals a day and snacks in between. I can also send her Popeye's for the oven and things like that. I had lunch there, and the food was good. Residents can request food stuff, and they cook everything in the kitchen. It's a little house with a dining room and kitchen area, and everybody sits down and eats dinner together. One of the big selling points is that the facility is very clean. They keep everything nice. The hallways have been widened, and the bathrooms have been made handicapped accessible. There are 10 residents at a time, so it's pretty small. It's private, and the same people work there every day, which I like. It's a great place; I'm super happy with it. They offer activities such as crafts and arts, and a musician comes in once or twice a month. They also go on outings sometimes. The staff is great - I love them. They're all very nice and helpful. The price is within our range, which is great. We also give our loved one a little bit extra every month so that she can get the things she needs. Overall, it's exactly what we were looking for."

"Not being familiar with assisted living facilities, I was still extremely disappointed with this one. None of the staff members spoke clear English, and were not friendly by any means. We were not greeted for quite some time upon arrival and staff members continued to walk by us and said nothing. I did not get the feeling that they were efficient or organized in any way, and most staff members were not able to answer even the simplest of questions. When questioned about how they handled their medications, if a nurse/doctor was present at all, if their meals were personalized for clients (diabetes, etc), they seemed to fumble their answers or did not know the answers. We spoke with a few clients who lived there at the time we were visiting and all of them had very negative things to say about the facility and its' workers. Some of their complaints was that they refused to turn up the heat, the food was always cold, they were only allowed to bathe twice a week, they could not understand what the staff members were saying, etc. After going back a few times to visit our client, the owner accused us of not paying for her services and threatened to kick out our client. We had also heard from others in the facility that the owner has kicked people out before; she put them in a taxi cab with their items and sent them to the local shelter. I went to the facility approximately 6 times, each time being a terrible experience. We worked with the department of social services to get our client placed somewhere else and filed a formal complaint about the facility. "

"We toured Somerford House & Place Hagerstown. It was very clean and very professional. The staff was very good. The building was very good. It was well-kept. The atmosphere was pretty calm. We just looked at a small studio. The size was fine for what I was looking for. The dining area looked very nice."

"The doctors suggested that my husband should be put in a home and they transferred him to Golden Living. A couple of weeks later, I fell and I moved to Golden Living, too. It's a nice place and I don’t have any problems with them at all. The rooms were okay. I don't think the size of the bed was bad at all. I was in a bigger room that had three beds, so that was nice too. The food is fine with me, as it seems like he eats everything. The residents were nice. I moved out yesterday. They had all the ladies down there folding towels and I thought that was really something nice. I told one girl that this is really good. These women were folding towels and I thought that was really something for them. I enjoyed watching them. They were giving him a bath and we had time to get down there and watch the women do that and I enjoyed it myself. I would recommend them and if anything happens to him again, I would want him to go back there as it's a nice home and it's clean. They were really good to both of us. You won't see messes like some of the other homes I've been in. There is no odor. My husband is always clean and the staff is wonderful to both of us. "

"I am planning to move my sister in for respite care. It was very clean and it had a warm setting. I was there when they were eating lunch, so I didn't see activities. I had a really good conversation with the person that set it up, Kelly. The staff was friendly, and they seemed to be helpful with the residents. The rooms were nice. They had some that were private and the others were semi, so 2 to a room. But everything was nice. They had a courtyard, which was nice and fenced-in. I could see that they would enjoy being out there. They had a little area where they could do gardening, a little area for music, and comfortable chairs for them to sit in. They had a nursery area that had a crib and a rocking chair and that was full of babies for those who needed that."
