I moved into Silver Birch of Muncie. It's a beautiful building. The apartments have kitchens with a refrigerator, a microwave, and a sink. We have our own private bathroom. And then we have a place for our living room, a TV set, and a bed. You're free to come and go any time you wish. We have nurses and nurse practitioners on the premises at all times. We have signaling devices in our room and they're very quick to respond to those signals. We have 3 meals a day. You walk down to the cafeteria, you have a menu where you circle what you want for your meal - breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The staff there is very accommodating and very nice. You can get as much as you want, but they have a limit of 2 drinks per meal. We have outings. I think on Thursday, they would take us to Walmart or Kroger on a bus. We also have picnics and other outings that are announced.

We toured Silver Birch of Muncie for my mother. It seems secure, they seem to care, and it's clean. They have an outdoor patio, a small garden, a community room, and a game room. They sometimes have music and movie nights. They have a 24-hour staff for assistance with nursing and other needs. The rooms seem to be nice, well-kept, and updated. If an individual has an issue, they have emergency buttons to get somebody there quickly. The rooms are spacious, too. The place seems nice.

Silver Birch of Muncie assisted living is new and it's Kilgore in Muncie. They've got 3 floors and it's a big complex. They have elevators that the seniors go up and down in to get to their rooms and the dining hall. It was nice and we liked it but that just would be too hard for my father-in-law to remember how to get around. It's a bit too much, even if he was ready for assisted living. The price is lower, which was nice, but it probably isn't going to work unless he ends up being in a nursing home situation where he's only going to be in his room unless somebody takes him out, then we'll be looking at places differently. The place is new so it's going to look new and nice, but they also had a maintenance guy going through there that was touching up the walls. He's just on top of making sure that everything stays pristine, and that was interesting and pretty neat. The people that work there were very friendly and they seemed to be interacting with the residents well. The apartment I saw was spacious and felt like it was spacious. The 1-bedroom was a little bit bigger than what we've seen in other places. It's good that the residents have things to do. They also have a visiting area with a two-sided fireplace and some of the residents were on one side of it when we visited. There were a few residents that were in there just visiting together. It was more homey-looking and it's very apartment-feeling in the hallways because it's 3 floors but they had areas that you could go to that's inviting. I just think it would be better if they're all on one floor. I didn't have interaction with all the staff. I was just interacting with the person that was giving me the tour.

I've been at Silver Birch of Muncie for two years now. They have studio apartments and 1-bedroom apartments, and they're very spacious and very nice. The bathrooms are handicap-friendly. It's got a shower that if you're in a wheelchair you can roll into it, it's very big, and it's got handicap bars. The 1-bedroom apartments have two big closets and mine overlooks the courtyard. It's got a very nice view and I can also see the woods in the back. The staff is wonderful and very cheerful most of the time, like we don't have bad days. They need more staff though. The food sometimes is OK, sometimes it's really good. They have arts and crafts, a puzzle room, a library that has a computer, and a cafe that has TV in it. Throughout the week, we have different things like movie nights on Wednesdays and Fridays and bible studies. Right now, we're in quarantine, so the only reason we can leave our apartments is for doctor's appointments and that's until Wednesday; after that, we can go out.
