My mother was at Kingston Residence of Fort Wayne. The facility was nicely decorated. Most of the staff was nice. As far as what I didn't like, they were understaffed, although the administrators said they weren't. And they would ignore the clients who were non-verbal or unable to take care of themselves. We actually saw that happen. As for the food, depending on who was cooking, sometimes the meat that they would have for my mom would be very, very good and soft and easy for her. Other times, it was so tough, and you couldn't do anything about it. I think some of them really tried, and they had decent meals some of the time. But the food tastes OK to me. Our biggest issue with the diet was the fact that they would ignore some of the clients who were in a wheelchair and who could not feed themselves. One lady slept through the whole meal, and they never even tried to wake her up. They just came in and started to wheel her away, and they also just set her medication in front of her when she obviously couldn't take it herself. My husband and I pointed that out because she hadn't had her medicine and she hadn't eaten, and they just told her, "You want to take your medicine? Do you want to eat?" And she couldn't respond, so they just wheeled her off. As for the structure and cleanliness of the facility, I think those were very good. Most of the time it's clean. They had activities posted, too. They had a Thanksgiving meal last year that was really very good. They did a really good job with that. With the food itself and the presentation of it the way they had it for the family, that was very nice.

We went to Kingston Residence of Fort Wayne. I really liked the fact that, even if my dad were to need nursing care, he would still be in the same apartment as my mom. That was really great. The staff was extremely informative. The representative who we talked to gave us a tour of the entire place, gave us lots of information, and was willing to help us with the VA benefits that my dad would get. The representative even told us that we could stay there for lunch and see what the food was like. We didn’t eat there, but we saw the food coming out of the kitchen. The portions were big, and the food looked really good. The people who we talked to said that the food was very good. As we were touring, we saw several nursing areas throughout the nursing home in which the workers were playing games with the residents. It was like the workers were everywhere. The place had a big calendar to show the residents when and where the shopping days would be. They also had services that would take my parents to the doctor and back. They had emergency care as well.

My husband was in rehab at Kingston Residence and they were absolutely wonderful. I liked the attention he got, and of course, it's different from assisted living. They were very good and he loved it.
