"I'm currently using BrightStar Care Fort Wayne. The caregivers are thorough and wonderful. They're excellent. They provide drop-off to the doctors, laundry, light cleaning, and motivational exercises. I'm really happy with them. I like the idea that the nurse came over with the caretaker and interviewed me. She wanted to know how he's doing and checked everything out. I'm in a lot better shape now than what I was when I got out of the hospital. I'm happy, happy, happy."

"Hello fellow caregiver, I am a caregiver for my 80 yr old mother with Alzheimers at mid severe stage, now 4 1/2 yrs. I am so very grateful to have In-home care several times a week. I would suggest that a caregiver look for an In-Home care Agency that can provide them some relief services-such as a morning shower, dressing, preparing meals and personal attention etc. Starting a service early on will help them adjust to someone other than you as a caregiver. I am deeply grateful for the aides that assist my mother with her daily care, they're patient, understanding, respectful, calm, encourage, praise and laugh with her even if she doesn't remember. They greet her with compliaments when they arrive, talk to her and hug her when they leave. You can see it in her face, that it makes her feel good! It's special attention just for her. They can also be helpful in listening to your concerns about care and safety. As time progresses it's comforting to know that the In-Home Agency is there with support. Not everyone will understand what caregiving is all about, but your Agency does.I am thankful for all of their wonderful staff. I would also like to thank my husband and family for all of their support. Your fellow caregiver, Michelle "

"My sister is using iLove Home Care. They help her with a little cleaning, prepare her meals, and ensure she gets a bath and basic care needs. The caregiver is good. The billing is good, but the scheduling, sometimes my sister misses a day, but they adjust her bill when that happens."

"The agency provides a person to help with anything I need around the home. On some days I can do many things and other days I’m hurting to much. I have someone come for two hours a day and they come twice a week. Haley was here for a few weeks and she did an amazing job. She is very happy and cheerful. She always makes sure that I don’t need anything else before she leaves. She does things she knows that needs to be done. I have two Shih Tzu’s and they both love her and she treats them like her own. I have had Christine for some time on and off. She and I have become very close friends. She is always there when I need her. She also is very helpful around me and does everything I need her to do. Both girls have become my best friends. Both girls are very good representatives of True Care!"

Given the high cost of in-home care, many people use one or more forms of financial assistance to cover the expenses. Below, we explain some of the most common sources of financial help for paying for in-home care. If none of these options are available to you, you can reach out to your Area Agency on Aging or Aging and Disability Resource Center to learn about local resources.
Home care services are only one of the pieces needed for seniors to gracefully age in place. There are many services and programs that are low-cost or free, that enable seniors to enjoy an independent lifestyle in the comfort of their own home, such as help with home modifications, meal delivery services, and more. Below, we’ve compiled a few of the most helpful resources in Fort Wayne:
| Resource | Contact | Address | Service |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aging & In-Home Services of Northeast Indiana | (260) 745-1200 | 8101 West Jefferson Blvd., Fort Wayne, IN 46804 | AIS operates the local Aging and Disability Resource Center, which offers information and access to the State Health Insurance Program, which educates and assists Indiana’s Medicare beneficiaries. AIS also offers home-delivered meals for seniors 60 years of age and older. Additionally, AIS’s case management can help seniors avoid placement in a nursing home for as long as possible, and the organization offers assistance with advance care planning. |

| Community Transportation Network | (260) 420-3280 | 5601 Industrial Rd., Fort Wayne, IN 46825 | The Community Transportation Network offers discounted rides to eligible Fort Wayne residents, including seniors aged 60 and older. Rides for individuals with disabilities are also provided, and CTN vehicles can accommodate wheelchairs. One is focused on heating and air conditioning systems, while the other funds roof repairs. Applicants’ incomes must not exceed 80% of the area’s median income, and homeowners’ insurance is required. Additionally, applicants must be in good standing regarding mortgage payments, among other requirements. |
| Brightpoint | (260) 423-3546 | 227 East Washington Blvd., Fort Wayne, IN 46802 | Brightpoint is a nonprofit organization that offers multiple programs that may be of use to Fort Wayne seniors. Its weatherization program, available to both renters and homeowners, helps make dwellings healthier and lowers recipients’ utility bills. Aging can be a difficult process, and loved ones may not always ask for help – oftentimes it’s up to their family to evaluate their need for help around the house. While no two situations are exactly alike, this checklist can help you and your loved ones determine when it’s time to start the search for a home care provider.

If you’ve determined that your loved one needs the assistance of a care provider in their home, it may be time for a difficult conversation. Handled correctly, however, this process can bring a family together and ensure that everyone’s concerns are addressed. Use this PDF as a starting point to help the conversation stay as positive and productive as possible.
