"My mom is 83 and very independent. She lived in her own home and was quite active socially. She loved to play cards, etc. One of the difficulties we found as a family for mom was the loneliness of living alone. She didn't want to live with any of her children and wanted to maintain her independence. A friend of hers asked me to come with her to Castle Pointe at Baywinde. Her aunt was currently residing there. I went and fell in love with Castle Pointe. I knew in my heart this was a good place for mom. She would be able to maintain her independence while at the same time be able to make many friends, engage in social activities, have someone to dine with, go to church with, etc. We took Mom for a visit and she also fell in love with Castle Pointe. At one point she said to me - "You know what Deb - this is just like being in Heaven." I found this comment from her to be so touching because my mom is very spiritual. Baywinde has been a blessing not only to mom - but also to our family. She is happy, safe, has made many new friends, is playing cards, and even baking in her own apartment. She is happy and healthy and safe!!! The entire staff is wonderful at Baywinde not only to mom - but also to the family. Being a caregiver for a parent is a difficult task for a variety of reasons. Baywinde is a wonderful community for both the resident but also for their family and everyone's peace of mind. "

"I chose Legacy at Cranberry Landing for my mother-in-law. We liked the facility. It was convenient. It was close to where we live and the staff was very good. They invited my mother-in-law and asked her to go to all the activities, and she partook in them sometimes. The apartment is very clean, updated, and a nice size. They have a game room. They have areas for social get-togethers and they have outings."

"I went to The Village at Park Crescent and saw an apartment. They have what you call a Jacuzzi bathtub, but the bathtub is not a walk-in, you have to climb over the side of the tub. The living room and dining room were kind of small for the furniture that I have, and that was it. The price was a little high. We asked if they had financial assistance, or how we could do that, and they did not have it. When I talked to my mom about it, she was like, "That's too much," and so we said no. They have activities for the whole month, where they do Wii bowling, and they go on trips. They have different kinds of activities inside. Their dining room for lunch, breakfast, and dinner was really nice. I observed the interaction between the clients and the staff, and that was beautiful. I like that they knew everyone by name, and that was beautiful for me because you need to be able to relate to people. Knowing who these people are, knowing their names, and knowing what they like is really good. Everything was all in a nice area, and it was clean. They have a walking trail, and so that was beautiful. It was just not for my mom and me."

"My visit to Holiday Fleming Point was wonderful. The person we met with was very engaging, very informative, answered all of our questions, and gave us a lot of information. We loved dealing with them. They were very friendly and personable. The sizes of the rooms were very good. They do medical transport. They do various exercises and outings that I know my mom would be interested in. They had a garden club, a library, and a chapel. We saw the sample menus. We were very pleased with the choices, but we have not eaten there. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and not all places serve lunch. Everyone is given a GPS device that they wear all the time. Even if they are not on the property, they can still wear it. If they get into trouble with anything, they have connections. I was very impressed with that. The facility itself really looked like it was just built last week. It looked very well-maintained."

"My grandmother is in here. It is very clean. Everybody is very nice and helpful. They are willing to talk to anybody who needs help. She is in a private room and it is very nice. The food is also good. They have a lot of music activities, shows and a lot of things during the holidays."

"The Greens is a beautiful place. They were wonderful. The staff was topnotch. They treated me like family; it was very good. The room is absolutely perfect for my dad. The size is right, the layout is right, and the distance to things is very good. The layout of the whole building was thought out with great care. It was spotless."

"Highlands at Pittsford is a lovely place. My parents are already on their waiting list. I thought it was very clean and very organized. The staff was very warm and friendly. My parents are looking at one of the stand alone cottages, and it is quite lovely and spacious. It is just a very nice place. Their dining room was lovely. They have every sort of activity. They have walking trails and a garden patch. The cottages are just lovely. "

"We visited Legacy at Village Wood. It was very welcoming. The person that we met was really nice and tried very hard to answer our questions and accommodate my sister. They were working to make it up-to-date. The rooms were very nice and had been updated. They were nicely painted and had new carpeting. I looked at the dining area. They kept their residents active, too. "

"We toured Linden Knoll. The staff was very nice, and the facility was very clean and smelled clean. It was a very nice and pleasant place. Our daughter went, and she was able to see the room, but we were not when we made our visit. The only thing that we didn't like about it was that we didn't get to actually see a room, and we've heard they're very small."

"Legacy At Clover Blossom was an excellent place. It was beautiful, airy, and bright. I saw the 1-bedroom, and it was very expensive. It was a lovely place. The staff gave us a lovely tour and explained everything, and then we had lunch. "

"Valley Manor is excellent. Our friends live there, and they're very happy, and that's why we looked there. It has different sizes of apartments that one can go into and that was a good thing for us because we'd like something a little larger when we're ready. We particularly liked the three-bedroom ones, and we liked that it's still within the community we have lived in for 40 years. We like that it's accessible to lots of cultural things and it's very walkable. It's an older facility, and yet they've done a nice job of keeping things in good repair and doing upgrades on balconies and such things. I liked that it has balconies that you can open up to the outside. You can be outside without leaving your private space. The staff was incredible. They were so good at remembering names and at highlighting the residents' accomplishments. One of the people I know from my church lives there. He just turned 90 and they did a big acknowledgment of him at the Eastman Theater and lots of the residents came to acknowledge him as well. I'm sure there were a lot of people who work there that were there, but one of them who was involved in admissions recognized me, knew my name, and I didn't even remember her name. I remembered her, but not her name. They are extremely good at meeting the needs of the residents and seeing the residents as complete people, including their past and their past accomplishments in their life, which I think is valuable when one is older and maybe not as capable. We have eaten there a couple of times and it's just fine. It's not outstanding, but it's been the pandemic, so it's been very hard to hire people. It has very thick concrete walls, so it's very quiet and it's easy to regulate the temperature in one's apartment. All the rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows or sliding doors out to balconies, so they're light and airy and pleasant to be in the apartments. The general area is very nice, too. The people there seemed very happy."

"My experiences visiting my grandfather at St. John's Meadows were quite positive. The facility is highly-equipped to assist seniors of all abilities accomplish many goals. Whether the residents wish to quietly rent a small home along the perimeter of the property, or live within the main buildings in the center of the campus, there was something for everyone. Being more active and able than some other residents, my grandfather was able to rent a small two bedroom home in the community.Exploring St. John's Meadows was an interesting adventure, as there were so many different aspects to it that made it wonderful for seniors and their visitors. The staff in the main office was incredibly helpful and welcoming, always willing to tell us where to go for certain activities and events. There was a heated indoor pool in the facility that my grandpa could make sure was open simply by flipping onto an in-house TV channel, which revealed a video feed for the pool house.The only negative issue with the community at St. John's Meadows was the access to the main entrance. It is located on a very busy road in Rochester, and has no traffic light at the entrance's intersection with the road. Turning left out of the community onto this road was nearly impossible, and quite dangerous for even a young and alert adult like myself. I always worried that my grandpa was going to attempt a difficult left turn exiting his community and get into a car accident. "
