"I toured Solstice Senior Living at Fairport. I saw some of the rooms and had a meal there. I remembered that the rooms were nice. It was spacious, it was clean, and it was just an uninhabited room at that point. The food was good, but the service was cumbersome for me. I couldn't walk very well, and it was a buffet, so walking, in general, was not easy, much less trying to balance a tray or anything like that. That was kind of a negative for me at that point, but I don't think that every day they have a buffet, it was just that one time. The people seemed very nice and very attentive. The staff, and the residents as well, seemed like a good group of people. The place was a nice area that was in the woods, it had nice gardens, and a little bit distant from everything. I don't think there's anything at walking distance at all."

"My friend is at Legacy at Cranberry Landing. It's close to me. They seem to be very caring, very professional, and very helpful as far as with the paperwork and getting her in and following up with me. It happened nice and quick, which is how we needed it to. So far, everything has been wonderful. They're very attentive, and there's people coming in and out all the time, so she has had no problem settling in. When I call with questions, people are very responsive, and they get right back to me no matter how silly it is. The lobby is beautiful, it's clean, and friendly, and the staff is very helpful, too. The apartments in the assisted living area are decent size, and the one she has is a one-bedroom apartment. She has been in quarantine, so she hasn't done any activities. Also I haven't been there a lot anyway, and we can only be there the day she moved in."

"My mother is doing great here. She is very happy there. It's a very comfortable place. They're active. There's nothing negative. The staff is marvelous, absolutely wonderful, helpful, caring, and watching out for her. Her room is an apartment, very warm, comfortable, and it's got great windows. The dining area is welcoming, elegant, spacious, and clean. The food is sometimes a 10, sometimes a 5."

"We explained our situation to a social worker, and he suggested Armstrong Senior Living and another place. We like them both, but we decided to put my mother in Armstrong. It is a small place; there are only maybe 30 beds there. It is a little bit different than a lot of other senior living places. They have an independent certified nurse's aide there who takes care of their residents' needs. Basically, you can contract her for whatever you need for your loved one, whether to give medication or for housekeeping. Also, the price is reasonable. This nurse is very good. She is on top of everything, and I can talk to her. She also takes my mother to her doctor's appointment if she needs to. The help is excellent. They have been very good and very helpful with us with our mother. It also turned out that the residents are just wonderful. The moment my mom walked in, all the lady residents kind of gathered around her, and they just took her under their wing and made her feel at home. It is a very friendly community. It is not a fancy place, but it is homey. Everyone seems to take care of everybody. My mom has a room, which is small, but it is enough for her. She also has her own private bathroom. Mom is a very sociable person, and she is usually out in the public areas where everybody else is. They would play games and have someone to paint their nails and/or do their hair. So basically she uses her room for sleeping and for what she wants to do by herself. This facility serves good home-cooked meals. They are not fancy, but my mother likes it, and she eats well there. However, to me, the most important part is having friendships and knowing that she is being taken care of there. "

"Lyon's Manor is okay. It's not the greatest, but it's not bad. It is close to us, it's decent, and it's affordable for my mother. The staff is great and very nice. The residents do all kinds of different activities for each month. They figure things out together what they want to do. "

"Ashton Place Senior Living is an excellent facility. It's about 25 years old. It's in very, very good condition and the people there are wonderful, very caring, and concerned about the residents. My mother-in-law has a kitchenette, a living room, a big bathroom, and a big bedroom. All the meals can be provided. Rides can be provided. There are three different levels of care there and the highest level of care will administer medications. They will check the residents every two hours. It's a very good facility and the people are all excellent. We had food there and their menus are outstanding. They're usually at a choice of entrees for dinner and during the holidays, they put on a spread for them. They had prime rib and shrimp cocktails and all sorts of sweet things. They have many activities. My mother-in-law enjoyed playing bingo. They usually have musical concerts at least 2 or 3 times a week. They offer religious services."

"My mom moved into Vienna Gardens. The general appearance was awesome; it's very nice, they keep it extremely clean, and it's decorated beautifully. They had a lot of things for the residents to do. Everyone was really helpful, we had aides twice a day for her, and the administrator staff was just wonderful. So far, I've been extremely satisfied with the services. Seniors can live there independently, but they have modified assisted living; it just depends on what the residents need. They have crafts and games, and so far, mom has played Bingo and cards. She's starting to socialize. The dining area was very quaint, the food was really good, they had choices, and they can go and eat anytime. "

"Gardens Senior Apartments was subsidized and too small for what we wanted. It was handicap-accessible, which was good, but we wanted a two-bedroom which was not available. We were above the income limit because it was subsidized. The environment was what we wanted. It was country living and about six miles from where we lived. We liked the area, but it was not ideal because it was not near the hospital. The staff was very good and very accommodating. Everything was very good. They had a nice environment, gardens, and activity rooms. They were very clean, but it was not for us."

"I'm in Farmington Gardens and I'm very happy with this facility. This is just a 55 and over apartment, but I like the safety and security they provide. It's a very clean new building and there's only 88 apartments here. Everything is new and there's great safety features in the building. It's locked down at night. It's also peaceful and quite and there's a lot of things to do here. There are a lot of activities here that you can participate in. There's not much staff here, just an office and a maintenance person. "

"The Legacy at Fairways is a wonderful community. My parents have lived here for about 8 years. Once our nest was empty, my spouse and I decided to join them, and sold our home. Now we also reside in a villa, which is very spacious. In fact, our basement is allowing us ample storage. We have no regrets and enjoy the new friends we have made. We have the opportunity to participate in classes, attend gatherings, and have our meals prepared for us. The front desk staff is especially friendly and helpful. We like it enough to tell others about it! "

"I visited Legacy At Willow Pond. It's a smaller place than the other Legacy community that I toured, and it doesn't have a pool. However, it's close to The Y that I go to all the time that has a pool. So the director that I was having the tour with said they don't find it a problem because people go over to The Y to swim and also socialize, and it also has a senior center that I go to. So the best thing for me is that I could maintain the people that I am around, as opposed to going to another one, and all of a sudden I'd have to start with new people. One thing that amazed me was they had many spaces for gathering, so you can go and sit, play billiards or pool, they have a kitchen for you, and they have different areas like a living room when you first come into the space. They have places where you can go and have your family eat meals with you. There's also a cute little place that looks like a cafe, plus there's a beautiful dining room. It's a little bit older and it's showing its age a little bit. But I like the decor and I felt an attraction to it, it felt like my living room. One of the things that were going on while I was there was that the residents had asked the activities director to find out how they could go on a cruise together. So to me, that's saying that these people get along, they enjoy each other and they have an interest in doing things together. So that speaks highly for this facility. We haven't tried the food but they gave us cookies."

"I went into Quail Summit. It's hooked up with St. Anne's. It's good, I liked it and it's close by. If things work out with my wife, I can almost walk from Quail Summit to the other community where my wife is, if I have to, I could. I liked it but I can't do anything now, not yet, they understood that when I was there. I told them I couldn't do anything until I get settled up with Medicaid. They were very nice to me, real good, and I got along pretty well with them. I went into an apartment with 1-bedroom. I saw the dining room. I didn't eat anything but that was a nice dining room. I guess you gotta pay extra for your car, I liked that cause I still have a car. They're real nice, they took me and walk me around there. It's a nice place, it's good. They're real nice to me."

"We visited the independent living community of Ferris Hills at West Lake in Canandaigua. They have four or five buildings serving different purposes. The staff members were courteous, the food was very fine, and it was a little more on the modern end. It has newer units, so it's a little more up-to-date. There is a community college in town, and they would offer some of the same kinds of extras in terms of seniors taking courses there. They have a library, and they have groups coming in to sing. The size of the rooms was large. The staff members were well-trained, courteous, and welcoming. They were very good. I have tried their food and it was good. It's a well-balanced meal, nutritious and tasty."

"My mom's care has been excellent at St. Anne's Community for the four months that she has been in the facility. They were very caring and attentive. She wasn’t able to participate in their activities, but she enjoyed the music and they always have something for everybody to do. The facility is always clean and we made it homey for her. They let us bring in anything we wanted to bring in. My mom has no appetite, but the food always looks and smells very good. I would definitely recommend them. "

"The Highlands At Pittsford is not too far from where we live. This one was very nice. It was a little more expensive, but it was also more convenient. The work attitude of the staff was beautiful. They were very open, caring and helpful. They were very nice. They were very genteel. The dining room was elegant. You can order off a menu. They did have a activity room and part of it was an exercise program and swimming. They also had a library. I like it best that it was very conveniently located for us. "
