"The experience was horrible. It felt as if it was a dungeon. Very few employees seemed concerned about the living arrangements the folks were in. My grandfather was still coherent at the time and understood his surroundings weren't the best. It almost seemed like a surreal horror movie going through catacombs. The nurses and nursing aides only helped when it was a dire emergency; they chose not to bother with residents- it was a horrible experience seeing my grandfather in the state he was in. Sometimes we would go in and he wouldn't be bathed, choking on his own sputum. No nurses were to be found to help him out at all. They only showed up to placate him with pills. The living arrangements were horrible, my mother would clean his room for him because maintenance didn't bother to assist residents with cleanliness. The food was okay, from the cafeteria anyway. The entertainment room was decent, I recall there was a pool table, ping pong table and a sufficient amount of Tv's that kept residents busy. The outside of the facility looked immaculate, the grounds were trimmed and edged, bushes and hedges trimmed, the lawn perfectly green. It covered up for the flaws on the inside. "

"Quail Summit was a clean and modern facility. The staff member who gave me the tour was very helpful. The room's setup was small but acceptable. The new dining room was beautiful, though, and the common areas were well furnished. The menu looked like it had a lot of variety as well. There were residents gathering in the common area and playing cards when I was there."

"We were able to visit Clark Meadows at Ferris Hills. The facility is very clean with lots of activities. The residents were out and about. They have several places to choose for the residents to eat. The bedrooms were very nice. "

"Everyone seemed to have high esteem. Food was good and everyone was well taken care of. Enjoyed seeing each other for dinner and talking about their days. Workers were friendly and respected the elderly and vice versa. Always had some activities and special events that happened. Elderly loved looking at the dinner menus and describing their favorite meals. Very polite and generous and loved to get some extra attention. From what I could tell, they received good care, as none of them ever seemed to complain. They had daily exercise that many went to and seemed to enjoy. They lived in apartments that were clean and had enough space for them to complete activities. Others who I have spoken to about the facility seem to have good things to say as well. All in all, i think the facility was well kept and enjoyable. "

"I found the Terrace at Newark as I was looking for a home for my 91 year-old mother. The facility is newly built, not a large but very nice. The people at the Terrace are also very nice. It just felt right. I know she will be very comfortable there. "

"My sister loves The Northfield and they are affiliated with Fairport Baptist Home. They have a dedicated Alzheimer’s Unit which is right next door. They have 24hr nursing care. We’ve met all the nurses, the director, the activities director, and the chef who have all been wonderful. We had lunch there which was their main meal. There were four choices, and the food was prepared very well -- considering the fact that my sister-in-law is a diabetic -- but they have taken very good care of her and the meals are great. We are very happy with them. She has an apartment with a living room, bedroom, kitchen, and a bath. They have morning devotions, they go on bus trips, they have several music nights, sing-a-longs, game nights, and happy hour on Fridays so they have a lot of activities. The best thing I like about it is when she runs out of money, they don’t get rid of her, they work with us to keep her there, and we don’t have to find another facility. "

"Highlands was beautiful. It would have been our first choice, but they couldn't accommodate some of the issues that my mother-in-law has. They had me talk with the nurse practitioner, which was great, and she made a point of making herself available while I was there to talk about my mother-in-law's problems. The rooms were beautiful. They had several sizes. Some of them were spacious. The facility was particularly well-appointed. There were two big dining rooms. Everybody was well-dressed and looked engaged in something. "

St. Mark's Terrace offers affordable housing for senior citizens in two locations in Yates County, New York.It was the vision and mission of the Rector and Vestry of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Penn Yan, New York to establish decent, safe housing for low income seniors. In 1972, St. Mark's Terrace opened a "high rise" building with over 100 apartments in a convenient location in the center of the Village of Penn Yan. The opportunity to be housed near amenities such as grocery stores, banks, churches, public library, post office, pharmacies, restaurants and shopping district attracts many seniors who may no longer desire to drive. Individuals who are 62 years of age or older and are able to manage living in an independent setting are welcome to apply. Rental subsidy may be available for those who qualify. The buildings follow regulations established by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). St. Mark's, Dundee opened with a 39 unit two story building in 1994. "Our experience with Heathwood Assisted Living at Penfield was good. The staff was excellent except the two of them were not kind and were a little rough, but the rest was absolutely wonderful. My mother was there for a year. It was very lovely and clean. The dining area was clean and appropriate. The food was fine. They had a central dining and living area and then long hallways. It was always clean and well kept."

"My mom is at Pinehurst in Honeoye Falls, which is an Episcopal home group. She's been a client there for eight years now, and she's at the independent living apartment for seniors. I think it's great, but it's an independent living, and my mom isn't independent anymore. We had to hire aides to help her, and that's been a huge expense. They provide her meals and housekeeping, but they don't supply any assistance. She's ninety-four now, and she needs help getting dressed and moving around. She needs a more restrictive placement. She's fine, but she needed more assistance than Pinehurst could give her. We've been very pleased with them; they're exceptional there. They had no issues with COVID; they had one or two incidents, and they dealt with it quite aggressively and thoroughly. We love the place. Some of their apartments need work; they're not fancy, but they're clean. I think the food is fine, too, and my mom always likes it. They have a gym, a computer room, and an open area for congregating. They used to have music more often, but New York state has not allowed it yet. When it opens back up, they will have music once or twice a week. They provide a lot of activities there. They're not perfect, they have their flaws, but they're better than any place around here locally."

"My mother is not really ready for a nursing home, because mentally she is pretty sharp, so we took her to Grande'Vie. We looked around and this is the place we liked the most, and they did have the enhanced assisted living. Eventually, we would want to move her into just regular assisted living once she is evaluated some more by the nursing staff and the rehabilitation people. It strikes me that the staff is pretty good, but some of them are a little bit lax; like in the separate dining room for enhanced assisted living people, they are a little slow because the food has to come from another kitchen and sometimes the coffee is a little cold and that kind of stuff, but other than that the nursing staff is excellent. They clean the rooms once a week, clean and wash the sheets once a week, and I would say the sanitation is very good. "

"We have found a place for Mom. It's a new place, and it's called Ashley Woods at Penfield. It had the right combination really of everything else. Everybody offers pretty much the same amenities, but this had a good price to go along with all the amenities, and being that it's new, even though the company is doing business for a long time, it is everything we wanted. It met all the requirements that we felt we needed. The staff seemed to be very knowledgeable. A couple of people we spoke to had been in the business for years now, and they seemed very knowledgeable. Another reason is no apartment is far from an elevator, so there's never a lot of walking for any of the residents. Everything was pristine. The rooms were beautiful. They were all one-bedroom apartments that we looked at. A few were bigger just because of where they're located, but still very nice. There's a little kitchenette, a living room, and a bedroom. They have no pool, but they have all the other things. They have a salon, medical facilities, three meals a day, and a place where you can eat whenever you want."
