"I liked the fact that Solstice Senior Living at Fairport was smaller. They had the activities that I would be interested in. My biggest drawback there was that it's too far from my home. I still want to be involved in my own community. They have arts and crafts, exercises, and movies. They don't have stoves in their apartments, but they have a community kitchen, and you could use the stove or bake if you wanted. They had a lot of stuff. The staff was great. It's a little older facility. They have a beautician there. They have a podiatrist who comes in every six weeks or so. They have an emergency call button where the ambulance would come in."

"My cousin has moved in. They are doing a great job of making her almost happy. Her room is clean. They have a lot of activity. They have exercise room, hairdresser, library, piano, dining room, and social room. The dining room is clean and bright with a varied menu. They provide nice service, too. They pay attention to special requests. The staff members are warm and caring. They have a book discussion, they have somebody playing the piano, they have card games, they have bingo, and they have cultural trips and shopping trips. There is somebody who can do shopping for you if you are not able."

"I visited Quail Summit, it was nice, but it seemed more like a nursing home. What we didn't like was she would need to move out of the apartment and into another wing if she needed further assistance. The staff member was very pleasant, the dining room was very nice, and the library was very nice as well."

"We visited the independent living community of Ferris Hills at West Lake in Canandaigua. They have four or five buildings serving different purposes. The staff members were courteous, the food was very fine, and it was a little more on the modern end. It has newer units, so it's a little more up-to-date. There is a community college in town, and they would offer some of the same kinds of extras in terms of seniors taking courses there. They have a library, and they have groups coming in to sing. The size of the rooms was large. The staff members were well-trained, courteous, and welcoming. They were very good. I have tried their food and it was good. It's a well-balanced meal, nutritious and tasty."

"Ashton Place Senior Living is an excellent facility. It's about 25 years old. It's in very, very good condition and the people there are wonderful, very caring, and concerned about the residents. My mother-in-law has a kitchenette, a living room, a big bathroom, and a big bedroom. All the meals can be provided. Rides can be provided. There are three different levels of care there and the highest level of care will administer medications. They will check the residents every two hours. It's a very good facility and the people are all excellent. We had food there and their menus are outstanding. They're usually at a choice of entrees for dinner and during the holidays, they put on a spread for them. They had prime rib and shrimp cocktails and all sorts of sweet things. They have many activities. My mother-in-law enjoyed playing bingo. They usually have musical concerts at least 2 or 3 times a week. They offer religious services."

"I'm in Farmington Gardens and I'm very happy with this facility. This is just a 55 and over apartment, but I like the safety and security they provide. It's a very clean new building and there's only 88 apartments here. Everything is new and there's great safety features in the building. It's locked down at night. It's also peaceful and quite and there's a lot of things to do here. There are a lot of activities here that you can participate in. There's not much staff here, just an office and a maintenance person. "

"My mom moved into Vienna Gardens. The general appearance was awesome; it's very nice, they keep it extremely clean, and it's decorated beautifully. They had a lot of things for the residents to do. Everyone was really helpful, we had aides twice a day for her, and the administrator staff was just wonderful. So far, I've been extremely satisfied with the services. Seniors can live there independently, but they have modified assisted living; it just depends on what the residents need. They have crafts and games, and so far, mom has played Bingo and cards. She's starting to socialize. The dining area was very quaint, the food was really good, they had choices, and they can go and eat anytime. "

"We explained our situation to a social worker, and he suggested Armstrong Senior Living and another place. We like them both, but we decided to put my mother in Armstrong. It is a small place; there are only maybe 30 beds there. It is a little bit different than a lot of other senior living places. They have an independent certified nurse's aide there who takes care of their residents' needs. Basically, you can contract her for whatever you need for your loved one, whether to give medication or for housekeeping. Also, the price is reasonable. This nurse is very good. She is on top of everything, and I can talk to her. She also takes my mother to her doctor's appointment if she needs to. The help is excellent. They have been very good and very helpful with us with our mother. It also turned out that the residents are just wonderful. The moment my mom walked in, all the lady residents kind of gathered around her, and they just took her under their wing and made her feel at home. It is a very friendly community. It is not a fancy place, but it is homey. Everyone seems to take care of everybody. My mom has a room, which is small, but it is enough for her. She also has her own private bathroom. Mom is a very sociable person, and she is usually out in the public areas where everybody else is. They would play games and have someone to paint their nails and/or do their hair. So basically she uses her room for sleeping and for what she wants to do by herself. This facility serves good home-cooked meals. They are not fancy, but my mother likes it, and she eats well there. However, to me, the most important part is having friendships and knowing that she is being taken care of there. "

"My wife and I searched the web for a continuing care, or close to that, throughout NY state. In addition we checked out such facilities in Maryland and PA. After four years of careful searching, we found Legacy at Fairways, here in Victor. Our first impression was of the warmth and caring of the manager/sales person, Anna. We then compared these facilities with all the ones we had read about and visited, and the setting, the actual villas, the price (rent not buy) and the "feel" of the place, and we decided right away to go for it, rather than put it off for a few years. Anna was responsive to all the phone calls over the next year while our Villa was being built, and from the moment we moved into, we were astounded at everything about the place. As people moved in around us to all the new Villas, things became more and more like home. I'm sure there is someone here who is not happy; I just haven't met one. What a gift to have found this place!"

"Lyon's Manor is okay. It's not the greatest, but it's not bad. It is close to us, it's decent, and it's affordable for my mother. The staff is great and very nice. The residents do all kinds of different activities for each month. They figure things out together what they want to do. "

"Gardens Senior Apartments was subsidized and too small for what we wanted. It was handicap-accessible, which was good, but we wanted a two-bedroom which was not available. We were above the income limit because it was subsidized. The environment was what we wanted. It was country living and about six miles from where we lived. We liked the area, but it was not ideal because it was not near the hospital. The staff was very good and very accommodating. Everything was very good. They had a nice environment, gardens, and activity rooms. They were very clean, but it was not for us."

"The Highlands At Pittsford is not too far from where we live. This one was very nice. It was a little more expensive, but it was also more convenient. The work attitude of the staff was beautiful. They were very open, caring and helpful. They were very nice. They were very genteel. The dining room was elegant. You can order off a menu. They did have a activity room and part of it was an exercise program and swimming. They also had a library. I like it best that it was very conveniently located for us. "

"My friend moved into the Legacy at Willow Pond. They were very informative, very cooperative, polite, and professional, and they seemed to have residents' needs at the center of their concern during the placement process. They were very accommodating during his move in and his subsequent three-week stay, up to this time. They answered all of our questions. I'd certainly recommend them highly. He enjoys the food very much."

"My experience with Cloverwood was good. I don't think they were as willing to work financially though. However, it was a very beautiful campus. It was pretty new. They have a beautiful exercise room. They had a really elegant dining room. It was very nicely appointed. The apartments were pretty good size. The working attitude of the staff was good. However, it was different than the other two places. They may not have been as quite as enthusiastic, but they were attentive and well-trained and so forth. What stood out to me for this community though was that it was very pleasant, it was sort of an open campus. "

"Legacy at Erie Station was very nice. The coordinator there was wonderful. I almost did go to Legacy at Erie Station. I like it very much. I like the housing plan. It was totally independent living. I like the model of the home that I was going to rent. I like it very much, but I like the other facility better. "
