"I visited Brookdale Painted Post, and it was very lovely. The neat thing is that the residents had their own agency, so some of them had taken leadership roles doing different things. It was really lovely that everything seemed to be set up pretty nicely. There wasn't any little kitchenette in their individual places, so that would be one thing I know my mom would miss, but they had lovely libraries and meeting areas. They also have a big community kitchen that looked like something out of a fancy home. The residents seemed very happy. What I like about the place is the friendliness of the residents, the willingness to talk to them, the concern of the staff, and the fact that everybody knows each other. Even the people who were administrative were very comfortable interacting and speaking with people who were collecting the garbage. There seems to be a good thing of respect in the community, so that was really nice between all parties. Another thing would be that the residents can take part in whatever activities they want, and those who have interests may take leadership roles. One woman, I think she's spent 11 years there, had developed an exercise class that became a daily thing. She leads it every day, and anywhere from half a dozen to 18 people will show up each day to do their exercises. There's another person who leads a discussion group. It seemed like a lovely place. Everything seemed to be in pretty good shape, too. They have nice gardens outside, and give lots of attention to the landscaping. They were in the process of bringing things up to par, like renovating some of the rooms. If some people would move out, then they would start renovating the room to make it more upgraded and freshen it up. That's an ongoing process, so they're probably still working on that. We really did not have the opportunity to try their food, but the dining areas also looked lovely."

"My impression of this assisted living facility is positive. My Grandmother's apartment was small, with one bedroom, but bright and cheerful, with large windows and an amazing view of a wooded area. I like that the facility had methods of checking on the well being of the residents on a daily basis. Each morning, my Grandmother was to go outside of her apartment door and turn over a ceramic tile. This way, the staff knew she was awake and okay. At night, a staff member would turn over all the tiles in the facility and in the morning another check would be done to make sure each resident had turned their tiles back over. The facility had a large community dining room where residents could take lunch each day. This provided my Grandmother with an opportunity to socialize with other residents. They also offered the option of having the lunch delivered to her apartment, which was nice if she didn't feel like going to the dining room. My Grandmother always seemed happy there and had several friends among the other residents. "

"I have worked as a volunteer at the Bethany Village, and I find it to be a fine place for senior assisted living. It has a clean, quiet, and professional atmosphere. Throughout my time in the facility, I never saw any sort of abuse or neglect committed against the residents: the staff took such matters very seriously. Occasionally, I would sense a lack of compassion among the staff, but as a whole, the residents were treated with care. The nurses knew virtually all the residents by name, and when I asked the residents if they liked it at Bethany Village, the response was, as a whole, quite positive. Many times a month they are taken to fun off-site places, such as museums and the like, for some time away from Bethany Village. After volunteering in Bethany Village, I would recommend it to anyone in Horseheads who is looking for an assisted living home. "

"The staff at The Barton Adult Home are very caring and treat my mother with the special attention that she requires as she is a Dementia patient. The director believes in keeping the residents active which benifts them both physically and mentally. She is taken outside whenever the weather permits and every effort is made to make her life safe and comfortable. I truly felt blessed the day that I placed my mother in their care. "
