Independent Living Communities in La Vista, NE

"We went to Symphony Pointe. It's very new and it's beautiful and everything. But the apartments were smaller and the price was higher than the other facility. So that helped us with our decision. They were very friendly. We had lunch there and lunch was delicious. They're like a restaurant. You just go whenever you want to and order off of a menu, which is nice. But you don't go in a dining room setting where there are either residents. But it was lovely. It was very nice, but it's just not a right fit for us. The one thing was they had a pool, which that drew me. But the price, we just had to go with the right price for us."

"I have a close friend of whom both parents are residents. They LOVE this facility, it is like family to them, very caring. On her advice I took my mother-in-law for a tour.This is a retirement community with living space for independent living, assisted living, skilled care and memory care. For Independent persons, there are cottages, like townhomes and apartment living. We found the staff and residents very friendly and welcoming. We looked at four apartments that had been updated recently. They were LOVELY. I might add that I am pretty particular. The lunch served was very good especially the dessert. They have many activities, according to the residents. And I understand they are under a new executive director that is working hard to make it even better. My mother in law is planning on moving there soon!"

"I toured Connect55+ La Vista. They were very friendly. It had a nice floor plan. I like the whole community, and the way it's laid out. It's easy to get in and out of, which is important to me because it's just right off of Q Street. I like the whole layout. They walked me around to show me the clubhouse, and I liked that. The people were so very friendly, and Jessie was so very friendly. I just liked it all. I thought it was great. They have a book club, lots of activities, and that was important to me, too."

"It seemed very adequate and very clean. I looked at their one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments. They were very roomy, and the layouts were great. They had a craft and activity room, a beauty and barber facility, lots of common space, a movie theater, and an exercise room. The staff seemed very friendly and knowledgeable. They had the same things that almost everybody had, like they had travel provided for scheduled events and medical transportation."

"I've been here at Ralston House for over a year now. Now that they changed management, it's awesome. The people are friendly and people get together and play cards and visit. It's a nice area. They've got a beautiful courtyard. I have a nice one-bedroom apartment. I'm on the first floor, so I don't have to go upstairs or anything. It's very affordable for me. Everybody gets their own food. The residents get together and visit. It's just apartment housing for the elderly 55 and up. It's very clean and everybody cleans their own apartment. I have family members that come in and clean my apartment for me once a week. They get my trash out and everything. It's a nice facility."

"I toured Trinity Village with my dad when we were looking. Everything was very good. It was very organized and clean. It looks like it had everything they need for all stages. The worst thing about it is simply the size of the rooms were quite small for my dad and mom. They weren't ready for that yet. It looked like it had more than enough amenities for that stage of people in their lives. They had a gym, a salon, and a library."

"My wife's mother was looking for an assisted living home. She was coming off an injury and we dedided to support her until she could file for social security. She did most of her looking in the Watertown, SD area where she was. My wife talked her and I into visiting a home in Omaha about an hour from where my wife and I live. We went to Fountain View and saw that there were actually two programs. One was assisted living and the other was an independent living program. Overall, the two were very close, the primary difference was the level of care provided. Both offered good meal services, chapel, a gym, a library and a mini-computer lab. The rooms offered were either singles for independent living, or 2 bedroom shared rooms for assisted living. The food wasn't great, but it was definitely better than expected. The rooms were nice and the staff seemed friendly enough. Overall, the whole facility seemed pretty nice. Not exquisite, but livable and affordable. "

"I've visited The Wellington. The staff is wonderful, it's a nice community where people want to stay and make a home. They had a workout facility, they had a large eating space that could be moved to other things, and they had several small gathering places for games and interaction with other residents. Their staff members were super nice. They've been long-term workers who have been there for a while."

"Aksarben Village was beautiful, but it's very expensive. It's new and up-to-date. The person who did the tour was very knowledgeable and she showed a one-bedroom, which I'm interested in. She showed two different floor plans. It had a nice washer and dryer right in the room. Parking was under the building. They had a storage space, a big room where you can have parties for no charge, and we saw the dining area and the menu. The residents were all happy-go-lucky, and easy to talk to. I was impressed with the facility, but not the price. They had a whole list of activities posted every day. Some residents were playing cards or reading, and some were walking through the halls or sitting outside. It was lively."

"Arboretum on Farnam Drive was an older facility. It had all the amenities, but they only serve one meal a day, which didn't really interest me, while the others serve three a day."

"My overall impression of Heritage at Sterling Ridge was good and what I expected. The main reason we picked it was because they have independent living, assisted living and dementia care, and in the independent living, they have two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartments, and they have underground parking. They have a community room they use for events. We like the fact that we could pick which two meals we wanted per day. You can take breakfast and lunch or lunch and dinner or breakfast and dinner. They have a shuttle bus that goes to different local stores and the shuttle will also take you to a Catholic service on Sunday mornings and that was important for us. We had lunch there, and the food was good, but service was a little slow. My mother-in-law liked its physical location, and they had a more flexible meal plan."

"We've decided on Avidor Omaha because of the location, there are a lot of greenery and trees around, and because of their amenities. They have a pool, lots of activities, and modern architecture. Some of the staff members were not as helpful once you move in. They just work to get you here, but that's the marketing person so it's her job. There's another gal here that's very good. Breakfast is the only thing provided Monday through Saturday, it's a continental breakfast. I like that I can do my own meals and not pay for meals that I'm not going to eat. There are lots of activities with lots of options. They have movie nights, happy hour, exercise, they have outings off of the premises through carpool. There's no bus or van that's included. It's a new facility and they're still working out the kinks and issues with the new building. Everything must have been cleaned at night because every morning, it's fresh. It's not like a lot of other facilities where you have to buy in and pay a large amount, this is strictly rental."

"My Grand mother lived at New Castle Retirement Community, for more than a decade. In that time she made many friends and was able to attend daily Mass, as well as serve Communion at Mass. She was able to participate in many fun activities with her friends (like card games, and Bingo. Both of which she enjoyed). The staff was always very helpful and courteous. They had shuttle service to local malls and shopping centers, as well as cars to take residents to doctors appointments. The dining area was always neat and clean, and served a variety of healthy food choices. She had her own apartment, that was cleaned by New Castle staff, and had linen washed and changed also by staff. Grandma was always glad that she moved in while she was still healthy so she could enjoy the amenities and grow friendships, rather than just move in for end of life care. "

"The staff at Richmont Village was super nice and the place looked a little nicer than the other facilities. They have tons of activities, they do a lot of outings, shopping, they take them to do grocery shopping and all of their appointments. They had a library and a barber shop. It just seemed like there were more people in that place that were out and about and were engaging. It's nicely decorated too, there was nice stuff on the walls, and they had little seating areas with nice furnishing and stuff. About their meals, they sent me something home."
