Independent Living Communities in Plymouth, MN

"I looked at three apartments at Havenwood of Minnetonka. I visited primarily for independent living, but I was looking for continuous care going forward. For me, it's in a very good location. There's a grocery store, there's a bank, there's a hardware store, and there are restaurants. It's just very, very convenient for me who is accustomed to living on the western edge of Minneapolis. The first impression when you walk in is that it is a new building. It's very clean and it's tastefully decorated in the public areas. The apartments are smaller compared to what I'm living in now, but I'm ready to accept that in the future. I only met with two people. I met with one who gave me the tour and then the gal who was at the front desk. They're very accommodating and answered all my questions, plus they gave me more information, not just what I'd asked about."

"My wife stayed at Abiitan Mill City. They helped with all sorts of services, like getting her dressed, going to the bathroom, and bringing food. They have all sorts of other things that you could do and other programs. They're pretty much complete, and they've got a nice restaurant on the first floor. They're all very pleasant people. My wife had a studio apartment. All it had was a refrigerator, bath, and toilet. It's the smallest one they had, and it was perfectly fine. They kept it clean and they came in maybe once or twice a week. The food was OK. They advertise it as restaurant quality; 50% of it was and the other 50% wasn't. The staff were wonderful. They're all good and caring. They were prompt, and if you need help, they will get there fast. They were very good. They got a lot of activities."

"Elim Shores is a great option for families looking for a warm, kind, and personable community. My mom lived there for 18 months and I only moved her recently for closer proximity to me on the other side of town. We found the campus super easy to navigate and not so huge that she couldn't find her way around. She loved the friends she made, and the staff worked together to make it fun. They actually knew all of their residents personally, and could help a family see if there were any needs that a family member may have. The pricing for an Eden Prairie facility is excellent. Many facilities have become so cost prohibitive, it makes it hard on a family estate. The location is easily accessed, yet very peaceful on a lake. The staff really made it a great environment with a sense of positive community. That always comes from the management on down, and Chris worked hard to create "fun" for the residents. The activity options were great, and Becky the activity director is pure joy. We are very thankful as a family to have places that we can customize help for our mom. Elim Shores was a big help in our being able to accomplish that. "

"I thought Wellstead was really nice because it has a very independent and apartment-like feeling. It didn't feel like a nursing home. It's like the residents were in their own place. The rooms were very nice. They had a really nice-sized bedroom, a living room kitchen combination, and a good-sized bathroom. So far the staff that I had met there were very good. A lot of people around the area had a lot of positive feedback from people in the community that have worked there or had friends work there. There's a lot of insider information that made you feel a little bit better about it. My dad is going to move in there. It's closer to my home, too."

"Havenwood of Richfield has proven to be a wonderful home for our mother. We visited many facilities before deciding to move mom here. The building is very nice as are the rooms and the food was very good also. The real standout advantage of Havenwood of Richfield, however, is its unbelievable staff, starting with Tammy at the front desk, who is always so helpful. The executive leadership team led by Michelle has been amazing. This includes Christine in marketing, Amber in the business office and Ryan in custodial. Even the cleaning staff, especially Dolores, went above and beyond to meet mom‘s needs. Most importantly, given mom’s memory care needs in the last few years, has been the exceptional nursing staff, including Michelle, Olivia, Maggie, and all the incredible CNAs who provided our mother with such loving care on a daily basis. They truly connected with her. We are so grateful for Donna, Kirsten and Gretchen for providing activities that were enjoyed by mom and appropriate for her demographic. Dr. Liz truly is invested in her patients well-being and we so appreciated her as well. We were able to coordinate mom‘s hospice care at the end of her life through Havenwood using St. Croix hospice and this really provided comfort to mom as well as all of her family. Thanks to everyone at Havenwood of Richfield for a job well done."

"My dad moved into Benedictine Windermere Way. When you walk into it, it is so inviting. They always have fresh coffee and water there, and the staff is pleasant. The food was great. The facility is very clean. There's an activity calendar, and there's always something going on. They have bingo, and they have a bar place. They have a movie night. They play cards. They play left and right, and they play dice. They have a puzzle room, a library room, and a workout room. My dad has a studio, and I was impressed that he had a stove, a fridge, and lots of cupboards in the studio. They have a huge chapel. It's spacious, friendly, well-kept, and they have security."

"I was very impressed by the Ecumen Seasons at Maplewood. The staff was very responsive. It's a beautiful facility with beautiful grounds. I just couldn't look at the rooms, because there were no available rooms. I kind of walked past the rooms and from what I saw, they looked really pretty. They have a little kitchenette, but they're not allowed to have an oven or a microwave for safety reasons. It looked like a new facility. It's got a beautiful exterior. It was two or three stories tall and they had little ponds, a bridge, and an outdoor sitting area. They also had a spa, a party room, an exercise room, activities, and church services of various denominations."

"The tour experience I had with Havenwood of Burnsville was good. The sales manager did a great job explaining all of the features in the facility and was able to answer some detailed financial questions for me. The apartments were very clean and modern. The design was thought ahead for aging individuals. I appreciate that they have a help button by the toilet in the bathroom. They have a hair salon, an exercise room, a library area, a crafting room, and a nice dining hall that is very clean and open with a private party room. Kristin was very knowledgeable and high-energy. You could tell she had a passion for working there and I appreciated her job. She was very engaging with the residents."

"My husband is in Ecumen Seasons at Apple Valley. So far, they seem to be keeping their word on all of the services they had promised that he would receive. We have received very thorough communication and a breakdown of all the billing practices so that we understand what we're paying for and what we're receiving. I was real happy with that. They seem to be very kind and thoughtful to him and understanding for his condition. They've been very attentive. I've sat with him for his meals and they seemed to be adequate and varied enough to get his interest. They're thoughtful in making sure he has something that he likes. They talked to him before they made a meal plan for him to make sure they were serving something that he liked. He's kind of locked in, so he can't go out. I can take him to the other places, but I haven't had a chance yet, to like the library and the theater. Compared to the other places that we looked at, they came in lower, but offered as good or better service. He has a balcony even in memory care, and it's locked. You have to have an attendant unlock it for you. Somebody has to be with him if he's on the balcony."

"Broadwell Senior Living-Plymouth was clean and nice. I just didn't like the units. There were very few closets and what they had was small. The so-called linen closet in the bathroom was extremely small. I just wasn't impressed. I'm sure it was nice, but it wasn't for me."

"Vicksburg Crossing was near the shopping area. It was very nice and very impressive. The rooms were roomy and had a lot of storage. They had a manager during the day. It was like an apartment but for seniors."

"Presbyterian Homes Summerwood was more of senior apartments. You can move into dementia care, but that was one hallway behind locked doors. It was a small unit and it was not welcoming. The rest of the building reminded me of an old hotel even though it's new. It was dark and large. It had a beautiful dining room and looked like wonderful food by the look of the menu. "

"We had my mom ready to go into Cornerstone Assisted Living, but we'd have to put her into memory care there. Having seen other memory cares, it's probably the best one but that's a drastic change, and it's not an environment I would want to put my mother in at this point. It's a very nice community, and the assisted living was beautiful. We toured the assisted area where they have a dining area, a solarium and activities. It was very nice. My mom would have to be sent down into the lower level, which they lock up unless family comes. It's a newer community, but the memory care rooms were pretty small, which my mother doesn't like. They also wouldn't allow pets, and that was a big deal for her too, and that was probably the last straw for her. From what I understand, it's normal for any memory care community."
