"My sister has moved into Vibrant Life, The Lodge of Durand. It was by far the best, as far as staff, pricing, and what they had to offer. The other ones were much higher in price, didn't seem to have the room size, and weren't as up-to-date as Vibrant was. I have no complaints with the staff or the food. The food is fine. The activities appear to have helped her; they're excellent."

"I love StoryPoint Fenton, but it's too expensive for my brother-in-law. It's beautiful. The whole facility is top-notch. It is very open and welcoming. There is a huge gathering area. The receptionist is right there to greet you. They had the director right away, and they took me to a model room that was set up. It was a one-bedroom and it had a refrigerator. It was very, very nice. However, that was an assisted living senior community, and that was not what I was looking for. I was looking for memory care-assisted living. They would do an assessment of my brother-in-law before he was allowed to live there. He probably could fit into the assisted part of it, but that part was too big for him. It's all one level, which is good, but I think that with him getting himself from his room to where they have to go and eat would have been difficult, because the layout wasn't good for him in the memory state that he is in right now. I also went to memory care. It was beautiful. We walked through it. It was very nice. They have a nice little area where you could go in and sit by a fireplace and watch movies. The kitchen was right there. They only have 16 residents, which is nice. They were finishing up lunch when I got there. They have several little areas where you could sit down and have a conversation or play a game. The windows were on each side of a nice wide hallway. They showed me a room that my brother-in-law would have. It was a studio. Somebody had just moved out of there, and they were in the process of painting it and getting it freshened up for the next person to come in. It had a nice view out the window where you could put a bird feeder or whatever. All of his furniture could go in the room, too. Then the staff showed me where the patio was, and it was very nice. They have a grill out there where they would grill food for the people. It is also backed up to a wooded little area where you could see nature and sit out there. It was very welcoming and very comfortable. I told her that I would move in there myself right now, so that part of it was very, very nice. The residents that were there were more in line with what level my brother-in-law was at physically. He's very mobile, and he has no medical issues with his heart, legs, or lungs -- nothing. It is just his mind right now is having a problem. If money were not an object, I would have him go to StoryPoint just because of the aesthetics of everything."

"I've moved into Vicinia Gardens Independent Living. It's beautiful. The staff is happy and helpful. Everything's great. Maintenance and cleanliness are perfect."

"The 1 bedroom apartments are very spacious and the studio apartments are the perfect size for somebody who doesn’t need the separate bedroom, Housekeeping keeps the rooms spotless, The food is excellent. The chef goes above and beyond to make delicious meals for residents. Menus always have a variety of choices, The staff is top notch. I can’t say enough in the way they care for residents. You can tell they love what they do. They will take the time to answer any questions families may have. So happy my dad is a part of this community! I would give Devonshire more than 5 stars if that were an option."

"I don’t have any worries at Village Manor. They treat me fine. I like the meals, and there are services offered. They have an activities program and exercise. They have a library, gathering room, a lobby for people, and a pool table. The staff is very helpful, warm, and friendly. It is not homey but certainly an adequate place to stay. I'm happy, and I’m satisfied with it. "

"Oakhaven Manor is extremely clean and beautiful. The staff here is very nice and very pleasant. The meals are also very good. Yesterday, a singer came in and he was wonderful, but there are also other activities like cards, bingo, and things like that."

"I have visited Canterbury-on-the-Lake and it is a wonderful community. It is set on a beautiful piece of property with a lake and tons of wildlife. It is important to have a community that offers all levels of care as my loved one can move through each level of care if they ever needed. Canterbury has all levels of care at their community. During the time spent at Canterbury their staff was extremely friendly and seemed very happy to be there. They seem to have a large amount of activities for all interests. I believe exercise and happy hours are just a few of the activities that are on the schedule. Canterbury is a community that I would recommend experiencing and when needed would look to move my loved one there. "

"My mom is a resident of American House Milford. The experience has been very good. She has a washer and dryer in her apartment, which makes her very happy. She had a leaky faucet, and they were there the next day. Then the dryer wasn't quite drying, and then she made a point of telling them, and they came, and they fixed that. There haven't been any other repair issues there. The apartment is cleaned once a week by the staff. Four girls come in to clean it. They pick up her garbage twice a week. All of my mom's meals are covered. She is happy there. She is 92, and it has been a good experience. It's quiet. She hasn't gone out really and made friends yet, but the staff is very nice. We've had no issues at all. She got a standard one-bedroom. They have the one- and the two-bedroom and then they have the one-bedroom that's expanded. She is living independently. There are things that I can pay more for if she needs help. I think she can segway into assisted living without having to move from her apartment. There's an exercise room. There's also a theater room where they show things. There are quite a few activities. They have an exercise like chair yoga and what they call walk-about. They have a garage that's underneath the building. If the person drives a car, then the snow doesn't get on it, which I thought was wonderful. They just cleaned the whole parking garage. My mom also has a balcony. Most apartments have a balcony. Hers faces east, which she is really happy about. She can sit out there in the morning, and she can sit out there in the afternoon. She has some shade out there. They have a common dining room where everybody comes. There are two lunchtimes in the morning. The breakfast is continental. In this one common area, they have coffee all the time, and then there are some wrapped fruits like apples and bananas. They have a whole board right by where the dining room is that tells you what the activities are every day, and they have quite a bit going on. When I went in to visit, the guys were playing cornhole right there in the lobby. I thought it was funny. It seems like a friendly community and the people seem to get along. They keep the place and the people are friendly. My mom said the food that she has gotten has been delicious. She likes it. The building is about 20 years old, so it's starting to show a little bit of wear. They are working on getting things cleaned up. They're working on that, and I think they do a nice job. The value for money is probably comparable. It's about $1100 more than what my mom used to pay, but she gets more services than she got from the other place. Mom also planned for her retirement, so she can afford this. She is doing fine with the value for money."

"Woodhaven Senior Community is really nice, and there are different levels of care. Medical help is available as well. The staff member was very knowledgeable and was willing to show me the different areas. The dining area looked very clean, and it looked like they eat well. They will also be opening a new clubhouse, they have workout rooms, and they have buses for trips as well."

"My mother is in McFarlan Home. It's a very nice facility. I think it's one of the best that I've seen. She's been there for almost two years now. The staff is great. The only thing they did not have is therapy or anything like that. A lot of the things that they would've had that they don't have now were because of COVID. It would require a lot of people to be coming in, but I think they do their best. It would be on the top of the list because I haven't seen anything like that around here. If they want to participate, they have bingo and other games in the facility. They do a pretty good job. They have them up and dancing and they have music and other things that they do with them. I can only just go by what my mom does and what she enjoys doing. She's satisfied with the particular activities that she participates in. I have a list of what they provide and how much it costs. The price is dependent upon the room that you get, and I guess it's a pretty good price. In comparison to a nursing home, they're really good as far as price is concerned."

"The security at Hampton Manor of Burton was good. It was beautiful there. The only thing is, they did not have any one-bedrooms. They had studios and those were small, but they had great common areas. It is like a square and they had a common area in each point of it as well as a cafeteria. It was great and that was one of my favorite ones after the other facility I visited. The staff was very, very friendly. The facility was very clean. Each room was clean. I think at the time we were there, they may have had a leak that they were trying to dry. The only downfall was that sometimes there was no one waiting at the door. So, if you want to come in, they will have to push the button and let you in. You couldn't just enter it. You had to have somebody let you in. The food looked and smelled good."

"Kearsley Daly Villa seemed nice. I didn't have any complaints about it. I liked the little houses behind them that you could rent, but they were all booked for three years. There's a waiting list for the houses. It's connected to the senior citizen's place. I didn't see any apartments. The dining area was really clean and nice. They had a lot of things and services for the people to do there, and that's all free. The staff was super nice."

"We decided on Abbey Park for my mother-in-law. It was very nice and had very nice accommodations. They have a podiatrist on call, a movie theater and a popcorn machine, and a small kitchen for ice cream socials. You can have your meals delivered to you if you want, and they’ll come and clean once a week. Of course, you’re going to pay a little bit more for all that stuff. The cupboards and the closet bars were all too high. It’s very close to a hospital, so all the grounds around were beautiful. There were places to park, and they had places for visitors. It was top notch. "
