Independent Living Communities in Fenton, MI

"I found a place, and I'm moving into Lockwood of Hartland. They have a few apartments that Michigan would pay for part of. So, I would be paying $1,750 a month instead of $3000 or $4000. They have an exercise room, a movie theater, and lounges. They have a room that you can have your family come in, and if you need to have a party or something. In the back of it, they have a path around the pond that you could walk around. It is very nice. I got the one-bedroom, and I'm on the ground floor, and that's what I wanted. They have elevators, but I still wanted to just be able to walk out and get my car. The manager was very accommodating and very informative. It was good. I'm going to prepare my own food because it's like $600 and some dollars a month if you eat there. If there's something that I see on the menu that I want to eat, all I have to do is give them an hour's notice, and I'll be down and eat. The facility is beautiful, too."

"They were very friendly at Village Manor Retirement. It looked like they had a lot of activities going on. That is where my friend actually felt most comfortable. He liked that one the best, and it looked really nice to me. His concern was he did not realize he would have to have furnishings and stuff, so that was gonna be a little bit of a hardship for him. That was his only drawback. The staff was very helpful and caring. I thought for him it would be difficult because it was two levels, but he did not seem to be bothered by that. Personally, that would have been my concern. They had elevators though, and it was very well kept."

"We will be moving into American House Milford. I'm giving care for my ex-wife because she is an Alzheimer's patient. I'm independent, but she is not. They're really friendly, very outgoing, and very accommodating so far in the little contact I've had. The reason I selected them is because of the facility itself and the location. It's close to my son, daughter, and family who are going to be able to help if I need it. I like the place. They seem friendly, and they have facilities that I will be happy with; I'm sure. The apartments seemed very nice. There's enough square footage. I haven't been to the actual place I'm going to move into, but I've seen a virtual tour of it. I'm good with it. It will certainly be adequate, I'm sure. The facilities are good. They provide meals and extra services as needed, like laundry and so forth. It will take a little load off of what I'm doing right now. I only saw the dining area briefly, but it looked very nice, very friendly looking and adequate. They provide three meals a day. The dining room looks very nice, and I think they're working on enlarging it. They provide tours and trips outside to different locations: shopping centers, theater, and so forth. They have in-house activities like bingo, cards, and other activities that I'm not really aware of at this time because I haven't been there to see them; that's what their description of the facilities tells me."

"We visited the independent living community of Oakhaven Manor. The rooms were smaller, there wasn't a full kitchen, and it was very small where the cupboards and things were. It was nice, but it wasn't as nice as the other place we looked at. The person who gave the tour was really nice, though. She gave us a tour and talked to us. I would also say the physical condition of the place was excellent. There was a cafeteria, personal dining rooms, a laundry room on each floor, and nice terraces."

"Holiday Genesee Gardens would be a strong second. I know they were renovating, but it appeared to be a little bit older facility. It had air conditioning like what you would see at a hotel, so it would be a little bit more noisy. The rooms were nice. They had a full kitchen. The other one had like a mini fridge, a sink, and stuff, which would have been adequate, but my mom is transitioning from a house to assisted living, so she is going to take a little bit to get used to it. So the full kitchen is something that would give her a little comfort just to have a full kitchen. I wasn't introduced to one of the housekeepers, but we saw their interaction with one of the clients. She was coming to clean a room and talk to the client, and I appreciated their interaction. I thought she was very helpful to the client, and it would be something that I hope would happen with both my parents. Everybody seemed to be happy. We also really enjoyed the lady that took us around. "

"My sister has moved into Vibrant Life, The Lodge of Durand. It was by far the best, as far as staff, pricing, and what they had to offer. The other ones were much higher in price, didn't seem to have the room size, and weren't as up-to-date as Vibrant was. I have no complaints with the staff or the food. The food is fine. The activities appear to have helped her; they're excellent."

"My stepmom is in Brookdale Brighton Michigan for respite care. We've got nothing but good things to say about it. It's been fabulous. It has a full suite of services. Respite care lasts 90 days, but if we need longer, we can go longer. It's been excellent. I'm not very experienced at any of this, but they're friendly and nice. They had a room available at the right price, and they seem to take good care of you. They provide lunch and dinner. If you want breakfast, there's a slight additional charge. They must find a lot of people don't do breakfast, but they do lunch and dinner, and that's included in the price. The rooms are really nice. You have an option of a studio, a one-bedroom, and a two-bedroom. They come equipped with a mini-kitchen, a fridge, a sink, and a stove. The bathrooms are all equipped for older people. It's just really nice. They have a ton of activities. There's a library there set up with a crossword puzzle. There is a fireplace. There are various activities that go on during the day that you can get involved in. They offer services. I think Monday they take you to Meijer, Tuesday it's The Dollar Store, and Wednesday it's Grover or something like that. It's been excellent for our mom. It doesn't smell at all. The staff has been extremely helpful. I have not personally had the food, but she has not complained about it. We've had no bad experiences. Things have been great. She doesn't have a big pension, but she's able to afford this. One of the huge reasons we moved her into there is because she could afford to pay for it."

"My mom was here. The rooms were beautiful, and the staff was very friendly. She really enjoyed her stay there. The rooms were very spacious and clean. It had a luxurious feel to it. Their dining room was very homey, and the food was very good."

"My parents are in Lockwood of Waterford. It's only been a week, but everything's gone fine so far. We are just trying to get them settled in. They have a nursing staff that is there 24 hours, which is convenient if somebody is getting sick or has some issues. They have a staff that comes in and helps with bathing, toileting, transferring, and all that stuff. It is a real plus. They have a salon there, and they have activities. They have a bus to get them to appointments, if they don't drive. It is all convenient. The buses are included. If you were to go to the salon, you have to pay for the haircut. If you use their nursing staff, then you'd have to pay for that. You have to pay for the meals too, but we don't do the meals. Their apartment has two bedrooms, a bathroom, front room, and a kitchenette area. It has a stove, a refrigerator, a sink, a dishwasher, and a nice big pantry. They have a lot of closet space in there. They have extra storage room, if you need it. They have a laundry facility. They take their garbage on each floor. They have church services, and they have a little store that is run by the residents."

"My mom just moved into Elmhaven Manor. They were having a special on the rent and my mother was on a fixed income and was trying to get the best possible situation for the price. Everything was fine, but because of COVID, a lot is going on. The apartments are nice, it's medium-sized. The dining area is very nice, it's clean, it's nice. They have arts and crafts, fitness, and they have a movie theater."

"We're interested in here. The location is very good for us. The meals were excellent, and the staff was very alert and caring. The room we looked at was lovely, and the outside view was wonderful. There are trees, benches, and walking paths outside. They had a lot of activities, and they have a transportation service. We are looking at getting my mother in there. "

"Magnolia is the place to be. Magnolia's staff makes it feel like a home away from home which is exactly what I was looking for. The care staff and administration are the most attentive and informative people. The amenities are absolutely beautiful and the meals are 5-star. I would recommend this place to everyone."
