"I moved to Allerton House, and it's a lovely place. The facility is beautifully done. I furnished the apartment myself, and it's adequate. The food sometimes is fine and other times not so great. We also have activities like exercise, people who come in to entertain, and we also have buses for us to go out to local restaurants. More than anything else, I like the staff; they are wonderful. "

"I toured Orchard Cove. The amenities are overwhelming. They have a magnificent pool that has an everyday lifeguard. They have all kinds of classes that take place in the pool, from water aerobics to water volleyball. They have a full-sized gym with two trainers full-time, which is incredible. They have four dining rooms. They have a beautiful library, and it's decorated beautifully. The lobby is magnificent. Just everything that I saw was very, very appealing. The apartments look terrific. Most of them have screened-in porches. It is not inexpensive, and that will be the only question that I would have. I still have to work out the numbers, because it is quite up there in terms of expense. I toured their independent living, and then they also have enhanced living -- which is the same as assisted living -- and skilled nursing care if needed. They have different contracts and different amounts of money for all of those things. The apartments have full kitchens, stainless steel appliances, dishwasher, a washer-dryer, and a step/walk-in shower. It was really quite impressive. The person who took me around was quite excellent. Very informed and very helpful. Everybody in the place that I was introduced to was delightful. It was just a delightful place. It made a very strong impression. The staff was very knowledgeable. They also have underground parking. They're affiliated with Harvard Medical School, and they have a full-time doctor onsite five days a week, and there are two nurse practitioners who are there all the time. In the assisted living area they have other nurses available in case of an emergency or something like that."

"I went to Maplewood at Mayflower Place. Our tour guide, Julie, was exceptional. She took so much time with us, and since it was our first place we had a ton of questions. We were very impressed with the whole place. One of the impressive points is that their independent and assisted care is combined. So if my friend went to independent care but then was disabled somehow and needed assistance, she would not have to move. She would stay in her same place and just get the care she needed. The dining room is combined, so if she had a friend who left and went to assisted care, she wouldn't really be leaving. She would just be getting new services, so that seemed exceptional to both of us. She would move once and not move again unless she, of course, had dementia, but then they can accommodate that in a separate facility. Their accommodations, their amenities, everything was topnotch. We saw three apartments and she could see herself staying there. The room sizes had a variety. The kitchens were all the same and adequate, and the bathrooms were spacious and handicap accessible. The differences were the bedroom, living, and dining options, but the decks were spacious. One apartment had two decks. They seemed airy and the rooms were very bright and the ceilings were high, so you didn't feel closed in at all. We were given a coffee cake, which was exceptional, but we have not had a meal there. We have decided to come back for one."

"My friend's a resident of Stafford Hill. The area I visited was more of an Alzheimer's area because you didn't get down there and they'd have to buzz you in. The staff were very attentive to the residents and caring. They have a nice dining area, but I didn't sample the food. One time I went in there and they were bowling, more or less a different type, but they were bowling. So, they do offer some things to them. The facility is very nice. The place seems nice to me, and the people are nice. I don't know if they allow pets for the people, but I know pets have come in with visitors."

"We went for a visit at Fairing Way and the place is great. The people are very nice and they are very informative, but the facility is very expensive. "

"I did a tour of Linden Ponds. It's an independent living facility but I believe you can progress to memory care. They had a lot of activities. It was a much bigger place, but it just was too far away from my children right now. The only bad part, the distance from interacting with my relatives. There's nothing wrong with Linden Pond, it is just far away. It's the same as all the other places, except it is in a much larger area and a much larger facility with more things to do. I believe they have a bocce court, a garden area, walking trails, a library, and a swimming pool. I have tried the food, and it is very good. They had a large dining room, a smaller area, a pub, and a small breakfast area. So, they have restaurants and more places to eat. The apartments were the same as in other places. The same square footage, and same amenities, but on a much larger scale. The staff were very good. They have many people, with many different areas of expertise. The facility all looks very clean and well-maintained."

"Colonial Village is immaculate. The hallways are immaculate, and the grounds are clean. You're allowed a small dog or cat. They had Christmas and Thanksgiving activities, and they held monthly meetings."

"My mother is at Independence Manor. This staff is very friendly. I've had meals with my mother there, and the food is good. It's very clean and bright. They have a hair salon, a little store, a little recreation hall, and a library. She has been there for 11 years. They have things like bingo, and they take them on outings to different places when the weather is good or when it's safe for them to go out. They provide lunch, so my mother makes her own breakfast and her own dinner. She has a one-bedroom. It's the one she's been in for 11 years. She pays for her cable, telephone, and internet on her own. The place is very well kept. They're HUD housing, so it's 30% of your income."

"I saw the Brightview in Canton about a month ago. Their activities are very good, they have a nice staff, but they did not have any of the apartments that I wanted. That's why I did not choose to go there. I saw their independent living, and the staff I met were very friendly, very helpful, and knowledgeable. The place is kept up very nicely. The location is very convenient to highways, restaurants, hospitals, and things like that. They also have a lot of amenities. The apartments were nice. It's just that they did not have what I wanted. I was looking for a two-bedroom and there was nothing available for a while. The outdoor space was not as large as some of the places I've seen, but it was kept up nicely."

"I liked everything about Heatherwood at Kings Way. It was just quite lovely. They showed us the library, the dining room, the outside patio, and the swimming pool. They showed us a unit that is currently for sale, and the meeting rooms. The staff was very pleasant and extremely knowledgeable. The lady answered all my questions. The facility was extremely clean."
