"We toured Village Park Alpharetta. It was very modern and upbeat, positive, bright, and light. There were lots of different hybrid options for people who were in different phases of life. So if you need more independence and your spouse stays more assisted, you can stay together. You don't need to move buildings or floors based on your needs. The staff was extremely professional and friendly, made us feel very comfortable and hospitable, and just a great experience. We tried the bistro and the food was good."

"My father-in-law has a one-bedroom apartment, and he has been there for two months. It is clean, and it didn't smell like urine. It has a lake in the middle of it, and it is very serene. He feels like he is not closed in. The grounds are well kept. He has cerebral palsy, and it is large enough that he could move around in his power wheelchair. It has a roll in shower, and he can also get into his closet. The people were friendly. The food was good, which he loves. They do a physical activity in the morning, and they have projects that they work on. They made wreaths for the doors for the holidays. He actually bakes with the ladies. They have a library that he can go into and they watch the races and football games together. One of the biggest things that stand out is with him having cerebral palsy, they gave him a lot of his independence back. When we went for the interview, the head nurse took time to talk to me and my husband. She was able to straighten out his medication because we were having trouble with the other pharmacy. So to me, getting the billing straightened out and the way they were ordering the medicine was a good idea, it worked wonderfully. They are allowed a lot of free movement, which I think is good. They do take them places. "

"I chose Cottonwood Estates because it is close to my house, and it’s new and of nice size. The rooms are very spacious and new. The staff is very caring and knows each resident as well as the details about their life. They do have weekly outings and yoga. They also have crafts as well as cultural activities and a movie theater located on campus. "

"Parc at Duluth would be my number two choice. It's quite nice. Katie was amazing. I had a couple of conversations with her before the tour, after the tour. Most likely, we will probably be signing up with them just because the price is right, the place is nice, and that would be more of a benefit for my in-laws. They will be moving there."

"Making the decision of moving Grandpa to a retirement community was not easy. Grandpa now lives at Atria, the assisted living part. It is 10 min from our house so we can visit anytime. He is happy there, he has found several new friends. It is a safe and peaceful community. If he does not go to the dinning area, they will bring his food to the room. The lobby and dinning rooms are clean. Nurse Shirley is amazing, she has done a great job with grandpa and set him up to get physical and occupational therapy weekly. There have been some changes in the director recently and the person who handles the accounting but it is expected in the current situation. We look at many places and we are very pleased with Atria. "

"My mom moved into the Sanford Estates about a month ago. I like the community overall. The people were very nice. And they have aides on site. They also have activities to keep the residents busy like bingo and game night. There's nothing included in the apartment. This is independent living, so she has to bring her own furniture."

"We have chosen Linwood Estates Gracious Retirement Living for my mother-in-law. It was very nice. There were a lot of nice people there and some of the residents we talked to were very happy there. They have a pool, a library, and a gym."

"I'm a protective son, and I have zero tolerance for bad service. That said, Chambrel has never disappointed me or my father. This is quite a feat. The staff keeps me in the loop whenever I'm out of town or busy. They've never dropped the ball in terms of administrative coordination. They return calls within 30 minutes, max. In one medical emergency, they contacted me within 5 minutes of learning about the situation and had everything under perfect control despite the chaotic nature of a medical emergency. The facilities are well manicured, maintained, and quite secure. No crime issues, period.One great selling point was the breadth of activities and opportunities to elders all ages and conditions. Poetry club? Check. Frisbee golf? Check. Gardening club? You bet. Pet friendly? Always. It's peaceful, quiet, and not separate from nature (and even includes senior-friendly "hiking" trails that look quite relaxing). They also have a reputation for varied and delicious food. That's a great selling point for my father. These perks are very important to me. I find few things more upsetting than assisted living facilities that treat their residents as "things" - focusing on the body and not the mind or soul. Chambrel is special in this regard. I've never heard them speak ill about anyone, and they don't ever talk down to residents, friends, visitors, or family members.The staff has a gentle, intuitive approach to assisted living care - there's quite a bit of emphasis on dignity and (where appropriate) independence. Online research and the developer's website got us interested initially, but the grounds are what got us out of the car and on a facilities tour. Glad I did. So glad. "

"Village Park Peachtree Corners was good. It was small. It wasn't as big as the other village. The apartments were a little bit smaller. One of them that we saw was an odd shape, and I don't know how you would put furniture in there. So that kind of turned me off a little bit. It's close to a friend of mine, so that's the only reason I went to look at that one, because she was like, "Oh, that'd be great. I wish you would come over here," but it wasn't the right fit. We really didn't see very many people working when we were there, but they were nice. They came up and talked to me."

"I am living in Myrtle Terraces right now. It has a lot of good qualities, and my overall experience is quite positive. This was a new place when I moved here last March. It is a beautiful, well-kept, and clean facility. The landscaping is lovely. The residents are very friendly. I guess the only negative I can say is that the manager is not a people person. When I move from here, I will strongly recommend to the board that in the future when they hire anyone to be a manager, they hire someone who has the background in either gerontology, adult education or possibly social work; is a people person; and understands older people and does not treat them like children. Our manager is an excellent property manager. However, several months ago during the fall, our activities director resigned because her mother is very ill. She was excellent and has not been replaced. The residents have repeatedly asked for a replacement because our activities have been reduced since she left. The residents have been asked to do a lot of things that she had been hired to do. I am not pleased with that. I do not understand why a replacement has not been found yet. We prepare our own food and each have our own kitchen. I prefer that because I do not like eating on somebody else’s schedule. I want more independence from that, so this place suits me very well for food. I like that it has easy access to transportation and it's close to town, so it's easy to get to grocery stores, pharmacies, and doctors. We are within a mile or mile and a half from a hospital. The location is extremely convenient. It is a well-integrated group and a very welcoming place. "

"I liked The Lodge at Bridgemill. They showed me a one bedroom, one bath and that would fit my needs very nicely. It seems like a comfortable place to live. I talked with several of the residents and they were congenial and they seemed happy being there. I think I would be happy there, too. I only met the girl who took me for a walk and she was pleasant, but she was not certain as to her knowledge on some things. Perhaps she was maybe a little new to the job, but she found the answers that I needed, and that's the important thing. The building is not brand new, but it still appealed to me. I thought it was clean and nice, and that's what I'm looking for. The atmosphere was very welcoming. I like the size of the rooms for one person and the layout of the room was good for me."

"The apartments are good. It's an older place, but it's within my price range, so that's why we took it. They have chair aerobics, a library, and weekly get togethers or party. It's very nice."

"My mom was a resident of Holly House for 8 years until she passed away a year and a half ago. There are just 6 people in the care home. The facility was like a ranch style home with a home-like environment. The caretaker is 24/7, meals are always prepared, medicines always dispensed and the washing, cleaning and caretaking of the individuals were always good. The home was clean as well. I have eaten there on special occasions too. They had some activities coordinator come by and do different games and arts and crafts. They also had a minister come by. I had no complaints during the eight years my mom was there. "
