The Best Independent Living Communities in Forsyth County, GA

"My parents are preparing to move into a cottage at Village Park. After looking at many choices in Atlanta, we chose Village Park because it is newer, in a good location (near family) and was relatively affordable. The cottage is spacious and has a one car garage, which is nice. Village Park does not offer complete continuing care, as it does not offer a nursing or rehab option but does offer assisted living and memory care. We found that most of the facilities that offer full care are buy-ins, requiring a large up front cost and a monthly fee. And those are generally on a long waitlist. VP is a monthly fee plus a la carte property. It will work well for my parents at this stage. The staff has been professional and patient. Will know more after spending some time there."

"I had a very nice visit at Brookdale South Lee Buford. I was able to experience lunch at the facility, and the food was very good, but it did not have a lot of variety. It is a much smaller and older place. They have old bathroom and kitchen facilities. "

"Cottonwood Estates was a very nice place that had all of the things we were looking for, except for continuing care program from independent to assisted, but you could buy assistance to come in. They changed management frequently last year. Other than that, I would have chosen it. The facilities were very nice, the dining rooms are centrally located, and you can get from one place to another fairly easily."

"Parc at Duluth was very nice. We liked the rooms and the different services they offer. We liked the fact that my mother-in-law would get the proper care she needed for assisting her with everything that needed to be done. The staff who assisted us with the tour was very nice and answered all our questions. They had a beautiful dining room and nice menus. They had exercise programs, entertainment, games, and they had a beauty salon."

"It was a convenient location; it was only 8 miles from our home. It was as good as the other places. My parents-in-law moved in there about a month ago. The whole place is very nice too. They have available selections of rooms. I had several meals there and the food was basically good. The grounds were well-kept. The staff was very helpful and friendly. There’s exercise in the morning, a walking club, and they go on trips to restaurants and sightseeing trips. "

"My mom is at Atria North Point. I like its safety. I like the staff. My mom feels comfortable. I like the fact that they are aware and look in on my mom every day. Safety and security are the best. The food is not their best aspect right now, but it has been better. They keep the outside looking beautiful. The inside is clean. They always have pretty flowers around. The housekeeping staff is wonderful. They have a large variety of activities. There's jewelry making, other crafts, music, games, technology classes, and history classes. They have a bus that goes places. Once a week they go out to a restaurant if they want. They do a pretty good job of the activities, providing a lot of variety for all the different things that people might enjoy."

"Sanford Estates was like a total care facility. They don't have kitchens in the rooms, so you can't cook your own meals, but they have a cafeteria. Maybe some of the units had mini-fridges, and that's not going to work for me. It seemed more like a hotel. It seemed like a nice place, but it was not what I was looking for. The staff was excellent. They were nice. They were willing to help or contact some friends of his to see if he could find places for me that were more affordable. They have a lot of things to keep people busy. The place was gorgeous. It is in Roswell and the location didn't work for me. There was so much traffic."

"We went to Linwood Estates. They have worked with us financially. It's a big help. The room was larger than a lot that we had looked at. Plus, they had their own patio and balcony to go out on. I had a meal there and it was good. It was decent and it was better than I expected. That day, I had meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and a tomato with Parmesan cheese. It's beautiful. It was decorated so nicely. It was seasonally decorated, so it had stuff everywhere, which I love. It's a very nice property, so I was impressed when I walked in the front door. They had a movie theater. I know that they play bingo and things like that. One reason why we picked them is that the staff were super sweet."

"Brookdale Roswell was developed as a senior residence with a lot of walking trails. It was clean. The lady who showed us around was friendly, and she didn't rush us. They had rooms, which were one-bedroom with a small bathroom, a small kitchen, and a small terrace/veranda. The menu seemed to be reasonable. They said that they use 90 to 95% fresh ingredients, they don't use canned stuff, and they try to use locally grown vegetables. They had activities like church services. The staff were friendly. We got a chance to talk to a couple of the residents, and they seemed to like the place. They were happy, so that was a good sign. The entry room was a fairly large open space, which was a large hall. They had an outdoor pool and a lot of walking trail. They also had apartments and cottages. They had exercise equipments on the floor and their own resident physical and speech therapists. It is an independent living and assisted living facility, and they are apparently now licensed to go and build memory care. "

"Village Park at Spalding was a beautiful place, and it reminded me of a resort. They have open walkways, an outdoor pool, a cafe, a place for happy hour, and dining. It was very nice. They also have the assisted living license. The staff was wonderful, very friendly, helpful, showed us around, and did everything. They have villas and cottages, which are separate homes that are set out on the property. They also have building apartments."

"I was very impressed with myrtle terraces appartment and the security. Very clean. Management was very nice. Grounds very clean. Hop to live there some day. Recommend it to anyone over 55. "

"I am the eldest daughter of a former resident, my precious mother, at Smoky Springs in Gainesville, GA. Mother was there for several years before having to be moved to a 24-hour care nursing facility where she passed during the COVID epidemic. Mother was so very HAPPY at Smoky Springs and we were all happy knowing that she was happy and being cared for so well. We, her children, were impressed from day one with the staff, the cleanliness of the facility, the food and especially the help that our mother received and the many friends she made. I am so very blessed to know in my heart that we gave mother the best of the best care that we could by moving her to Smoky Springs and knowing that her end-life years were wonderful while she was a resident. If you have a loved one and are considering Smoky Springs as their residence, or you, yourself are looking for an independent living home, you will not be disappointed in making the decision to live at this facility. Smoky Springs and the staff are truly a blessing and I thank the owners and the staff for a job well done!"

"We toured The Lodge at Bridgemill for my mother. It was nice and clean. The unit they showed us was up-to-date, modern, and kept clean and tidy. The staff were very helpful and caring. They were nice and funny. We had fun with them."
