We chose Charter Senior Living of Buford for my dad because of its location. We also targeted that area because we needed speech therapy. As it turns out, the company they have a contract with did not have a speech therapist. Their staff is wonderful though, very attentive and caring. They have movie nights, bingo, arts and crafts, and several different things. They also have a large sitting room with a fireplace. They keep it stocked with snacks and coffee. They have physical therapy on-site, too.

My mother loved Discovery Village At Sugarloaf. The residents were walking around, eating dinner, they stopped and spoke to my mom, and the staff member introduced her to pretty much everybody that they saw. The staff member was nice, concerned, and caring. They gave us a really cute room with a kitchen, living room, bedroom, bath, and outside porch, but it was a good distance to where she would have to go and eat, and we were concerned that she wouldn’t be able to do it, so we moved her to a room that’s right in the middle where there’s people all the time, and so far, she likes it. I’m really happy about it. They have an exercise class, there’s bible study every day, they play bingo, and meals from 7:00 to 7:00, and you can get pretty much whatever you want. There’s a standard menu and they have a special every night. They have arts class, daily movies, and get-togethers. The food and the activities are really good.

As a RN, deeply entrenched in the community, I personally chose Delmar Gardens of Gwinnett for my father. I knew the company policy was love, care and understanding, which is exactly what I wanted for my father and what he needed. He has a lovely apartment in the assisted living/ memory care community. The staff were attentive and encouraging and there was good communication. They went above and beyond to make him feel welcome ( after the death of his wife and a move from NC) during the pandemic.
He was eventually moved the Nursing Facility after a health issue and losing the ability to walk. I cannot thank them enough for the love, care and understanding they provided right up to the very end. They also showed compassion to me as I spent the last 6 weeks of his life sitting by his side. I saw the quality of care they provided. Arrangements were made for him to be Moved into a single room so we could stay with him til the very end.
I am so thankful for Delmar honoring that very precious time together with him. The kindness and compassion were outstanding. Our father passed peacefully on June 10th, with us by his side. I am forever grateful for the Administration, the entire staff, their philosophy and the personal attention shown to our father in the last year of his life. I know they did an excellent job and rest assured knowing I made the right decision for him at Delmar Gardens of Gwinnett.

We went to the The Retreat at Buford and we like them, but we’re going to go with another place. The tour was good. It was pretty quick, and it was just barebones. It was just showing the different rooms and areas where the residents gather. The staff that gave the tour was nice, but I just felt like it was a little rushed. I thought the rooms were OK. The room was a nice size. I thought that the facility showed some age, like the carpet needed to be pulled up and hard flooring pull down. It looked like some of it needs some paint refreshing and looked a little dingy. We only saw one resident sitting in a common area, so we didn’t get to speak to any of the residents. They have arts and crafts at times. I think pretty much once a day that they just do a simple craft. Then they do a game with them during the day; it wasn’t very creative. The hallways are dark. It was just not bright and inviting.

Words can not describe how wonderful this community is! The moment you walk in the door, you feel welcomed, from the sweet dog that comes to greet you, to the staff saying "Welcome to The Mansions!" it really made me smile.
As I toured, I noticed the high level of attention to detail that was put into the design of this building. The entire staff appeared to be approachable and I didn’t feel like a stranger at all.
The entire building is breath taking, and clean. I went in with the intentions to just take a look around, but I didn’t leave without choosing an apartment for my Dad. I knew this was the place for him to call home.
If you go in to visit, you will not be disappointed.

The rooms were very nice-sized. The kitchenette was nice and the bathroom was great. The sink had the right height and it’s got a great walk-in shower (that was very important). He’s on the third floor (which would be kind of a drawback), but they make rounds every two hours to check on every individual; so that helps. The rooms are adequate, and they ‘re up to date as far as the equipment. The bathrooms are large, and there’s a large walk-in shower. It’s basic, but it’s very adequate.
We’re just moving in, so I can’t get in too much detail on the staff. They’ve been pleasant in working with us, but he’s actually just moving in tomorrow.
They have a theater room, and they have games. No activities were going on at the time, but that’s not a main focus for us. I haven’t tried the food, but the menus look good; the variety looks good.
