"My friend moved into Skyline Village at Red Mountain. I like the staff, very friendly. Everything is covered for a reasonable price. Even cleaning service, all meals, and cable. It fits the need that was there for my friend. She chose the smallest apartment, but it was adequate. She has her bed, a corner, a chair, and a bathroom. She has a bookcase, too. She was able to bring her furniture in. They have a covered porch area that goes out to a patio where they can sit outside. They have a special barbecue for a holiday. Her room includes a refrigerator, microwave, counter space, and sink."

"Cahaba Ridge Retirement Community is lovely and I loved the lady who does their marketing. We had lunch there but I didn't think it was good. The facility is new and beautiful and the people are nice. They have a great ice cream machine. The price is very expensive though."

"St. Martin is a much older facility, but it's very well cared for. I have three friends that live there. They have Bingo, Bridge, and jigsaw puzzles. They take trips to the stores. The rooms are very nice, and they put new carpeting, and paint the walls before anyone moves in. I've eaten there many times, and the food is very nice."

"Danberry At Inverness is a gorgeous facility. It's beautiful and clean, and the people there were nice, but they just weren't as warm and friendly. The only thing that kept me from choosing this place is that the only room they had available was smaller than what I wanted. I know they do have activities, but I really don’t know what they are because I was just there for an hour visit. "

"The facilities of Asher Point Independent Living of Hoover were very inviting and modern. I didn't see many people there, but everybody was out and about. They only have kitchenettes. They don't have washers and dryers in the individual room. The guy who showed us around was great. The structure of the building was pretty straightforward. It wasn't convoluted in any way. It's easy to find your way around. There was updating/renovating going on at the time. The rooms were very nice. They had a nice little patio. It was big enough. It's comfortable and it's got a big closet."

"I don't think that we would want to live at Galleria Woods, but it was a very nice facility. The rooms were small, but they were probably sufficient for one person. The food was excellent. The staff members seemed to be knowledgeable, and they greeted people by their names. There were plenty of activities, and people were engaged in different types of programs and all. They had a Bingo game going on. There was a swimming exercise program, and they had shuffle board, and different card games that people were playing. The lack of maintenance brings it down a bit. "

"My mother-in-law has moved into Monark Grove at Greystone. She is currently in their assisted living. She is only there for a few days but it's been good. It's just a beautiful facility with a lot of different activities and things she could do. She visited there with us before moving in and everyone was very friendly. The location was fabulous for us, too. It was the best facility out of all the ones we looked at. The food is also good, according to her. I did try it when they invited us to their Christmas party, and it was very good."

"My in-laws will be moving into The Crossings at Riverchase. The staff was very friendly and engaged. We heard good things from a couple of residents about the food. The units were all nicely laid out, spacious, and brand new. They have a salon, an exercise room, transportation, and they showed us a program schedule. They will get a two-bedroom apartment. They did a great job. We talked to the both the marketing director and the new resident director. We also met the overall facility administrator. It's brand new and spotless. They opened their assisted living the day or two before we visited (they just got a license)."

"Pleasant Villa is close to my mother's home and her church. The cost was a lot less than most of the places, too. It's been very pleasant. It's not a huge place, but it is nice and always looks clean. My mother stays in a 1-bedroom apartment. They provided 3 meals a day. I've been there several times when they were serving and food it looked fine to me. They don't have a medical staff, but they do handle her medicine. I think they have a mild exercise class in the morning. Most of the residents' average age is 70. "

"The rooms at Birmingham Senior Housing & Healthcare were nice. They had 4 different sizes; they had a studio, 1-bedroom, and 2-bedroom. The food was good, and they also had a pharmacy, a regular store, and a place where my mom could shop. She could do things right within the facility without having to go out although they had buses to take them to appointments. There is a doctor there, too. They have a small room for classes like yoga and rooms for her hobbies. They have a lot of classes and crafts. They have movies, cards, and a lot of entertainment. It’s near the hospital and her doctors. "

"The Morningside of Vestavia Hills was very pleasant, very clean, and very nice. Everybody was very friendly. We were impressed with it. It was updated and more organized. Everything smelled clean. The residents were also friendly. The staff was very good, hospitable, and accommodating. The presentation was very good, too. The independent living side looked accommodating. They had emergency buttons inside the rooms. They have converted all of their tubs into walk-in showers, and they are getting ready to change the carpets. It had a very nice garden area. They have transportation to the grocery store, to the pharmacy, and to the doctor's appointment. They serve 3 hot meals a day. It was just very pleasant. They have a library, a game room, and a recreational area where you can get coffee all day long. We liked it."

"I visited Regency Retirement Village and it was fine. I only went on a tour and she was wonderful, she was a nice lady. The rooms were big, huge and very nice. The dining area was okay. From what I saw, the dining area is kind of like a bar-type deal. From what I saw, there was really no place to go walk around. They just had a little area downstairs where you can sit. The apartments were huge, and nice. The people who worked there seemed like they were extremely nice people. My drawback is that it didn't seem to have a lot of activities and outside area that I needed for my mom. It looks good just minus those things that I needed. "

"I visited Somerby At St. Vincent's One Nineteen. I was impressed with the community and the way the residents seemed to really enjoy living there. They enjoyed each other. The facility itself is very nice, clean, up-to-date, and inviting. I really wanted an outdoor space, and they just weren't around at first. But at the last minute of my visit, they had an opening of a 1-bedroom with a patio and that was perfect for me. I needed a little bit of outdoor space so I could plant some flowers and stuff, to have my own plants to nurture. It worked out fine. Their staff Michelle is wonderful. She answered all my questions and filled in the blanks for me. She was very welcoming and kind. They even sent me home with a fruit tray. That was wonderful, and I got to share it with my family. I was impressed by the restaurant and meal facilities. I was impressed also by the cleanliness of everything and the white tablecloths. The food was excellent. Another favorite thing was the possibility for outdoor activity because there's a huge walking trail that goes right by the apartment that I chose. I like that kind of stuff. It's just enough to get me outdoors. Also, my doctor's office is right across the road. "

"The facility was pleasantly decorated and had an ambience about it. All of the residents that I saw appeared to be engaged with each other and staff. The staff paid extra attention to the residents. There were many activities available, as well as planned outings and events at the facility itself. When mealtime came, the food appeared appetizing, the residents were eating it eagerly and those that needed some assistance received it. All in all this was a great facility. My only regret is that my grandmother didn't pass an entrance assessment. Her Alzheimer's is too advanced for them to take her on. I understand this is for her own safety, so no hard feelings there. It was a wonderful facility though. "

"I've visited The Oaks on Parkwood in Bessemer, Alabama. It seemed to be a really nice place. The staff was helpful and they answered all my questions. The room that I saw was very nice. It was a nice apartment, a 1-bedroom. I wasn't real pleased with the dining area. I didn't like the idea of putting the food out and everybody just serve themselves. The activities seemed to be good, there's lots of things to do. They have games and crafts. They have exercise and swimming area. The living atmosphere seemed good, and everybody seemed to be happy."
