I'm a resident of Mount Royal Towers. It's clean, nice, and neat. The staff is OK. Unfortunately, they turn over once in a while. The dining area is clean and well maintained. The food is very acceptable and well prepared but could be better if the budget was bigger. We have a lot of activities going on. We can keep busy if we want to. I'm teaching people how to play bridge. It's independent living, plus assisted living, and a nursing home. It's a wide-range place. I'm in the independent living plus area. If I need assistance, I could get it. They have also an Alzheimer's unit.

My mother is a resident of this nursing home and is being treated very badly. I have been trying to get her out of there for over 4 months and the whole place has been dragging their feet. She is always running out of her medicines for days at a time, doctor doesn't address her medical issues, nursing staff is incompetent and understaffed, and the management doesn't care. Please don't put your loved ones in this facility if you care about them

My mother is in Mount Royal Towers on the fourth floor. They don't have any access to go outside unless a family member checks them out and is responsible for them. She does not like it. She's diabetic, but they were only testing her once every three nights. Out of nowhere, her insulin is getting up into the 500s, so now they have her on two to three different pills for diabetes, plus two shots a day. I don't think that they check on the patients' health as much as they should. They're not very watchful. They allow them to go to the store in that facility and don't regulate what they get, so she gets cakes and sweet stuff. The bulletin board, where they have different activities like bingo and others, is nice.

Mount Royal was excellent and gorgeous, but I could not afford it with my budget. The tour was good, though. The services and the staff were great.

Moved my mom in the independent living in Feb. 2017 and moved her out in June 2017. Big, big mistake. 3 different occurrences of bed bugs that were not treated properly. So we replaced her bed, sofa and a chair. They are actually trying to bill us for the time she was at my house, while there were treating the room. $$$ Also, she did not like the food there, and had a very hard time socializing with the people. I have now moved here somewhere that she is very, very happy. Only wish I had taken more time and found a better place the first time.

The room at Mount Royal Towers was small but had a beautiful view. The kitchen area had a dorm refrigerator and a microwave top. It was an impressive tall building, but I was disappointed with their small dining room. On the main floor, there was a bank, a pharmacy, and a beauty salon. The place was clean, but the room's carpet was horrible because someone had just moved out, and they hadn’t cleaned it yet. The food we had during the visit was OK, but we only had two choices for lunch, and they were snack food.

If you ever need to get anyone on the phone at MT Royal, you can forget it. They never call you back. If the care my mom was getting was adequate, I would not have to call them. In other words....the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing.

Doesn't recommend. Unacceptable high rate employee turn over, not enough staff to care for patients, unprofessional management and staff, bad odor, unclean, outdated facility and poor resident care. Residents not properly dried and clean and many more issues too many to state.

This is an awful place. The turn over rate is terrible! They are always under staffed. The nurses and caregivers are there 16-20 hours at a time, I know because I stay with my mother all day because the people cannot be trusted to turn her. The employees even look tired. My mom ran out of medicine and they didnt even attempt to replace it until I gave them hell. They acted as if she never was supposed to get it from the start. They do no admiting lab work, like they are supposed to. The dr comes around every week and does nothing but write scripts. It looks good, but its all a show. If u want your parents to be in worst shape than ever, take them here. Did I say, they turn over rate is the worst I have ever seen? How can a patient get consistent care this way?

The rooms at Birmingham Senior Housing & Healthcare were nice. They had 4 different sizes; they had a studio, 1-bedroom, and 2-bedroom. The food was good, and they also had a pharmacy, a regular store, and a place where my mom could shop. She could do things right within the facility without having to go out although they had buses to take them to appointments. There is a doctor there, too. They have a small room for classes like yoga and rooms for her hobbies. They have a lot of classes and crafts. They have movies, cards, and a lot of entertainment. It’s near the hospital and her doctors.

Mount Royal Towers has good options and one of the very few that has a private room for long-term care patients. I had a good experience with the care planning and with the nursing staff coordinating services with Brookwood Medical Center. My father eats in his room, and he doesn't eat regular meals, but what he needs is provided. His room is good sized and has a private bathroom. I don't have any concerns about the safety because they inspect him often, and he is in bed all the time with the rails up.

We were trying to make an arrangement with Mount Royal which was near our home. They were very nice folks. They assisted my mother, and she qualified for assisted living except her legs are swelling, so they were afraid to take her. They seemed to have a lot of activities, and they served three meals a day. They took residents shopping and to the doctor if they needed to go. They also did the laundry. It seemed pretty good. The studio apartment was a little small. They had somebody at the door 24/7. The staff was very friendly.

I had someone recommend Mount Royal Towers to me. The staff was helpful to an extent. The rooms are clean and very comfortable. I was there for physical rehab and stayed on site for a few weeks. I was able to get a look at the apartments. Their food was iffy. It wasn't anything special. They have dining rooms on each floor so there is not a central dining room. It is not elegant, but it is nice. I can't say that I had a great experience there, but I can't say that I had a bad one either. They have bingo and shuttle services to the shopping areas.

Mount Royal Towers was slightly dated, but nice. What impressed me most was the location. My mother was just in rehab there. Her room was functional with TV. The food was good. They were very nice, but they need to improve on their knowledge of available resources in the community.

My mother was at Mt. Royal Towers for a very brief time. I had to remove her from their care because of neglect. She went to the rehab unit and they would not get her up in the morning until 11:30 some days. They did not give her a bath for 5 days one time. They did not give her a call button several times and she would lay in bed calling for help until someone would happen to check on her. They ould close her door when they left her room and not check on her for seveal hours at a time. The occupational therapist hurt her physically and was callous about it. The physical therapy they did in rehab was minimal at best and when I complained to the head of rehab he got nasty and told me that "they met industry standards". The staff turned over daily, we never saw the same face two days in a row and two members of the staff told me that they thought it was a terrible place where they would not put their own mothers. We had a very bad experience there.

My aunt was in Mount Royal Towers for rehab. The surroundings were excellent. It was very clean and very well appointed. There was nothing wrong with the food. The only complaint we have was that they only gave her three days’ notice to leave, and they could have been more forthcoming and prepared as we were expecting to be there a long period of time and didn’t realize her Medicare days were up. My aunt did like the facility.

Mom was at Mount Royal from 2008 to late 2011. At first, she was given pretty good care but then the care fell off. The staff on the floor where my mom was originally on was good. But when she moved to another floor, the staff was terrible. It just seemed like the care wasn't consistent throughout. I had to complain to the administration. I also found out that the facility was on the Medicaid and Medicare watch list. My mother was walking before she had to go to the emergency room from there and she hasn't walked since. Her health deteriorated because of that place. She had an infection for weeks and they didn't even check to see what was going on with her. She was dehydrated. She could barely sit up and wouldn't take in food or water. It was just terrible. The food was pretty good and reasonable though. They had a high employee turnover rate. People would stay for 2-3 months and they would leave. They need to improve on the consistency of the caregivers because the caregivers cannot know a patient if they're not there for more than 2 weeks and then the facility hires somebody else. I ended up complaining about one of the nurses because she claimed that they gave my Momma insulin with no food. Mom was rushed to the emergency room, and I told that nurse that that had happened before. She didn't know about it. But if you were an RN, you're supposed to read the files and know that this person cannot take insulin without eating. I wouldn't recommend this facility. I know somebody who complained about the care too so I wouldn't recommend this place to anybody.

Mt. Royal Towers is one of the nicest assisted living facilities I have seen. The staff is very friendly and take the time to get to know their residents/patients. It is always clean and bright and doesn't have the smell that you get with other assisted living places. They have tons of activities for the residents to keep them busy. There is a "Seniors" Prom. garden plots, and all sorts of activities. What else was nice is that it had an independent living facility, rehab floor, Alzheimer's floor, and assisted living facility so that my friend's mom could stay at the same complex and still have some familiar things and people around. The admitting staff was very helpful with helping us to get all the correct paperwork together and making sure the transition was a smooth one for my friend's mother. The only downside was that the entrance area only had one receptionist and it was extremely busy. We had to wait almost 15 minutes to be helped.

Mount Royal has very nice facilities with fabulous views across Birmingham. The nurses were all very kind to my grandparents and quick to help with any problems. The home features a few nice communal dining areas and a balcony area to tend plants or just enjoy some sun overlooking the city. The meal service is prompt every day and the meals are enjoyable, plus the staff is willing to cater to specific needs or just picky eaters. Different rooms offer different luxuries, my grandparents' having a sitting/TV room and kitchen in addition to the bedroom and bathroom. There is a friendly atmosphere about the place. Decorations are always out for holidays (i.e. Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, Birthdays, etc.) and again the staff goes out of their way to make their residents feel at home. I would recommend Mount Royal to anyone looking for a reasonably priced but nice and nurturing place to move his or her loved ones.
