"We chose Cherry Hill for my mom because it had a high rating as far as Medicaid state ratings. It's clean and not too large. It always smells good. The people are friendly and the care they give so far has been pretty good. My mom is in a semi-private room. It has two beds, a place for clothing, a night stand, and a TV. The food seems to be okay. On a scale of 1 to 10, it's about an 8. I really like Cherry Hill's caregivers, occupational therapists and doctors. The facility is also closest to a hospital that I could find so far. They can improve on following-up with doctors orders. If the orders came from the day shift, the night shift staff didn't know about it. If they only just followed-up on orders and made sure every shift was doing the same thing. For example, my mother was supposed to get up off the bed once a day. When I came back, I found that she was on the bed all day and another shift didn't know about it. "

"I was at Diversicare of Bessemer for rehab. Their CNAs were great but I had problems with the nurses there. There was a medication mix-up on the nursing side. Everything else was alright. The physical therapy was excellent. Some days the meals were not good, other days were pretty good. It was very clean but looks like it needs to be remodeled."

"The staff is amazing at what they do. They kept us in the loop with my mother in law as her time came to an end. They were and always will be compassionate with their residents. This is a really nice place for someone to stay. It is always clean and never smells like some nursing homes do. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone that is looking to place their loved ones in a facility."

"My mother was in Brookdale University Park Snf. We're still considering her for independent living there. She did a 10-day rehab stay there. The staff and the administration were very thorough, amazing, and very caring. The facilities were very clean and accommodating. They have all the rehab equipment there that she needed. Any time we needed any information or were concerned about anything, that was addressed immediately. I would definitely recommend the facility. We were very hands-on, so either my brother and I, or both, or somebody was there every day. So we saw the time and the attention that they gave to the occupants. We would not hesitate if we needed their service in the future to return there. She was given a private room with her own private bathroom with all the amenities and her closet space for her personal items. There was a safe for her valuables in the room, which we did not use, but it was there if we needed it. The lift chair was there to help assist her with getting up and down. There's our own call button in the bathroom as well as our bedside. The grounds and everything were very aesthetically pleasing. They have bingo, game nights, and music, as far as someone coming in to play the piano. There's an on-site hairstylist. While she was there, I was able to get her personal hairstylist to come in and do her hair. They have an activities committee, and she was allowed to participate in all of the social activities that were present while she was there. The only negative I had about it was the day that we admitted her, when I walked into the front desk, I stood there 15 minutes while the receptionist was doing something on her phone, and an administrator had to come out of her office to acknowledge me before the receptionist even knew I was there. They did address that, and they came back and apologized. There were some other activities that she participated in. I think one was a sing-along during the Christmas holidays. They had a wide array of activities."

"I was very impressed with Oaks on Parkwood. They had six or seven buildings that housed so many apartments. They had little individual dining rooms for each building where they can do things that just involve their building, and then they had the big overall dining room. They had a special breakfast on Wednesdays for everybody in the complex and Bible study afterwards. They had an exercise room, an activity room, a fitness center, and an indoor swimming pool."

"They had therapy twice a day at the Healthsouth Lakeshore, and it was top notch. They did not have other activities. We were just there for therapy so we can get better and go home. The therapists were all top notch. They really worked on getting people up and moving again. "

"The nurse Ben was fabulous. He was so caring and compassionate. The nursing assistants on all shifts we quick to respond and kind. The therapy is second to none. The food was delicious, the place is so clean i shouldn’t even have to wash my socks after walking on the floor. I highly recommend this place, I’m Better after being here. "

"I toured Greenbriar at the Altamont for my mother-in-law. It's downtown and it's all brick. It was beautiful. It was an old hotel. They had skilled nursing, and they had independent living; they had everything. I loved this place. They showed me everything from the apartments to rent to which was the independent living, the rehabilitation services that they had, and the assisted living they had. They showed me the skilled nursing facilities they had, too. I thought the rooms were nice and spacious.The staff was very nice and very helpful. I loved how that little Altamont area is really cute. I think for somebody that's in their late 70s or early 80s, they would love the cuteness and you can hit the streets and walk in the park right across the street. It was just beautiful. They had some good housekeeping options that the other places didn't offer, like laundry services and housekeeping services. They also had a salon. The only thing I didn't like was they only serve two meals a day, and you can't cook in the unit. There wasn't a stovetop, you could have like a microwave and a refrigerator. I guess that's for safety reasons. But the facility was nice."

"I moved a parent into this facility a few months ago and was pleased with the care she received during her stay. Unfortunately it was a short stay but I was very impressed with the care she received. Any issues that arose were communicated to me immediately. Personnel were all great to work with and always felt they took good care of her."

"My aunt was in Mount Royal Towers for rehab. The surroundings were excellent. It was very clean and very well appointed. There was nothing wrong with the food. The only complaint we have was that they only gave her three days’ notice to leave, and they could have been more forthcoming and prepared as we were expecting to be there a long period of time and didn’t realize her Medicare days were up. My aunt did like the facility. "

"My wife was at Diversicare of Riverchase for rehab. It was very thorough, very efficient, and treated very well. The communication was outstanding. They did everything they could to help her as well. It's an extensive one-level facility that has a very similar setup with various wings based on the level of need of the resident. She had a shared room."

"We chose Plantation Manor Nursing Home for my brother. The care providers seemed to have more interest in the welfare of the residents than any other community I visited. It's not a fancy facility, but the administrators and the medical director have been there a long time, and the CNAs are responsive to the need. It's an older facility, but it is very clean and smells fresh. They have beautiful flowers, well-kept lawn, and things for the people to look out outside the window."

"My mother was a resident of Aspire Cahaba River after her total hip replacement. The therapy services were exceptional and mother was very happy while there. The food is excellent and the staff was very caring."
