"My tour of The Crossings at Riverchase went well. The facility is only three years old, so it is very modern, and I like that. It was very clean. They had a pretty low turnover for the staff, at least up to that point. The staff who gave the tour was very knowledgeable. She has been in the business for a long time."

"I don't think that we would want to live at Galleria Woods, but it was a very nice facility. The rooms were small, but they were probably sufficient for one person. The food was excellent. The staff members seemed to be knowledgeable, and they greeted people by their names. There were plenty of activities, and people were engaged in different types of programs and all. They had a Bingo game going on. There was a swimming exercise program, and they had shuffle board, and different card games that people were playing. The lack of maintenance brings it down a bit. "

"I liked everything about Town Village Vestavia Hills. The room was a little bit smaller, but it would have been doable. It had wonderful amenities, more than we would probably use. They have a swimming pool, craft rooms, and exercise rooms. The price was also good, but they just didn't have a balcony or a patio. They had scenic places outside but it's inconvenient to just walk outside your door. The facility is only independent-living, but they did say that we could age and place and that we could stay in the apartment even though it was independent-living, and that was a big plus for us."

"Cahaba Ridge Retirement Community is an independent living facility. This is just strictly apartment living, although they offer everything that you could imagine that you would ever want. There's foodservice and all kinds of special things. It's a wonderful place. The apartments are spacious and welcoming, and the staff was welcoming, they just didn't have any openings. They had an incredible line-up of activities, it is a very active community with all sorts of interest groups and opportunities. Jeanette was just a wonderful representative of the company, very knowledgeable, and had all sources of resources. We would have been delighted to write a check and say "We want to live here." But there are 20 people ahead of us, and the turnover is about 5 apartments a year, so that's not an option for us."

"I have settled at Brookdale University Park, and I am very happy here. This is a lovely place, and I would recommend it highly. The staff is fabulous, and they know us by name. They are also very efficient. The marketing people are also very good. My room is lovely, and I am very happy with it. The dining room is lovely, and the food is good. They have lots of activities. They have exercise, Tai-chi, crossword puzzles, and spelling bees. They have entertainment in the evening. They try to keep you busy. "

"Danberry At Inverness is a gorgeous facility. It's beautiful and clean, and the people there were nice, but they just weren't as warm and friendly. The only thing that kept me from choosing this place is that the only room they had available was smaller than what I wanted. I know they do have activities, but I really don’t know what they are because I was just there for an hour visit. "

"I toured Skyline Village at Red Mountain. They're all-inclusive. The layout of the apartment was very nice and perfect for one person. They have an outside deck. They have a dining room. They have a common room where you can do arts and crafts, read, or play cards. The food was very good. Beverly was wonderful."

"My mother-in-law has moved into Monark Grove at Greystone. She is currently in their assisted living. She is only there for a few days but it's been good. It's just a beautiful facility with a lot of different activities and things she could do. She visited there with us before moving in and everyone was very friendly. The location was fabulous for us, too. It was the best facility out of all the ones we looked at. The food is also good, according to her. I did try it when they invited us to their Christmas party, and it was very good."

"St. Martin's in the Pines was a very nice facility. It was a little pricey, a little bit more than I could afford to pay up for. The rooms were nice and roomy, the facility was very clean. I didn't get to meet a lot of the staff, but the young lady that was the intake person, she was really nice. She even called me afterwards, and every now and then she'll still call to see how things are going. They were doing some activities when I was there. The staff was very welcoming, personable, and caring; she did show care and concern. The facility was very clean and well kept. There was no swimming pool, but they have a garden. The upkeep was very good, the grass was cut. The apartment was spacious. They had single and dual rooms. If you wanted to be just the one or if you wanted to have a roommate or something, you could. It was roomy enough for what I was looking for."

"Pleasant Villa was beautiful. It was a great facility, but it was really for seniors looking for independent living. It was very nice, but it was not a great fit for my dad. I saw the community area where they were watching TV, and the dining are. I believe they provide three meals a day. The staff member was very helpful, he answered all my questions, and the dining staff was very nice."

"When I toured Morningside of Vestavia Hills, they had a man singing and playing the piano, and the residents were there. The facility was very clean. It smelled nice when you walked in the door. You didn't get that nursing home smell. I actually knew two of the residents there. They couldn't remember me by face, but I know their family and they said they were satisfied with the care and the food. I met one lady who took us on the tour and the other lady who was in charge of activities. My complaint with the lady who took me on the tour was when I asked her if she found out about a one bedroom, she called me back and said they were going to ask this lady who was in the hospital at that time if she would move to a studio room and my husband could have the one bedroom, and then she never returned my call. Then my son called and she also never returned his call. Their rooms were kept pretty well. It's an older place, but it looks like it has new paint. Even the courtyard out back where they can go and plant vegetables and do gardening was very nice. The rooms were fairly good size, even the studio room. You could separate it to where one side is for the bedroom and the other side is for a sitting area for visitors."

"Regency Retirement Village has provided care for several of our loved ones over the past 4 years. The Management and Staff personnel have consistently demonstrated their sincere interest in the well being and daily satisfaction of both their residents and the resident's families. My wife and I would enthusiastically encourage an interested family to tour the Regency Birmingham facility, to talk to the residents, and select Regency as your loved one's new home."

"We were trying to make an arrangement with Mount Royal which was near our home. They were very nice folks. They assisted my mother, and she qualified for assisted living except her legs are swelling, so they were afraid to take her. They seemed to have a lot of activities, and they served three meals a day. They took residents shopping and to the doctor if they needed to go. They also did the laundry. It seemed pretty good. The studio apartment was a little small. They had somebody at the door 24/7. The staff was very friendly. "

"The Oaks on Parkwood is very nice and very clean. Everything is very convenient and accessible for mom. They check on her often and they provide a lot of things for her. She's not able to drive now, so they will pick her up and take her to church, to the doctor's office, or to Walmart. They're all planned outings. "

"Somerby At St. Vincent's One Nineteen was great. I talked to them on the phone to see what their rates were, and then we went before I took my brother in. He liked it a lot. It's really big and walking is difficult for him, but they said he could have a scooter. Things are looking possible with Somerby. He was looking at their independent living for a one-bedroom or two-bedroom apartment. The rooms were lovely. The one he looked at had a nice little den area that would be great as an office area; it was a nice size. It was very clean and very nice, we liked it a lot. It was lovely and the staff was great. We didn't try the food, but it smelled wonderful. He was invited back for a meal."

"My mother is in Kirkwood by the River. I think it is a perfect fit for her needs. She has a one bedroom unit which gives her a bedroom, a walk-in closet, and also a living area with a little kitchenette as well. She likes the space where she can put all her knick-knacks and stuff. They have a very aggressive program of activities. It seems like they have something constantly from 9 o'clock in the morning to 4 to 5 o'clock in the afternoon. Sometimes, they have something after supper including movies. She likes the worship service and the bible study. They do have a pool. They have a nurse available 24/7, and they have somebody who checks every door by 9 o'clock each morning to make sure that each resident is up and OK. They have outings to the groceries or to eat. They take people to their doctors and bring them back. The staff is just incredibly caring. They seem to be very sincere. They are great people. "
