"Galleria Woods is great. When people look for a retirement community, they need to look beyond their current needs to what they may need in the future. Galleria Woods has all the levels of care, from Independent Living thru Skilled Nursing. They have large apartments, a swimming pool, card rooms, conceriege services, four dining areas, unbelievable activities to plays, museums, parks and concerts and will even drive you to the doctor! They have chefs and even have their own pastry chef. The staff is very nice, always smiling and very professional. One way to tell a good community is to ask the people who live there. They are very happy and will all tell you they wish they had moved there sooner! "

"First, the facilities are very attractive, both inside and out. The apartments are generously sized and intelligently planned, with great amenities, including balconies and patios. Common areas are inviting, clean and have interesting attractions, such as the finch exhibits. The dining room was more like a fine restaurant but inviting and friendly at the same time. What distinguishes this facility, at least to my way of thinking, are the grounds and the staff. This is the only place of several I went with my mother that explained the details so completely and gave helpful general advice. The grounds are quiet and have a private feel although the facility is in a conveniently located near retail and entertainment. What really got my attention - the raised bed gardens! Residents may have their own "garden" for roses, flowers or vegetables. The heavy lifting is done by staff. It's a great place for residents to interact, be active and enjoy the outdoors. Since Mom and I both find gardening highly therapeutic, we felt this was a most important asset. "

"I visited Chateau Vestavia, and it was good. It was lively, and they have lots of activities going on. It has a more casual atmosphere. I saw some people playing board games. The staff was very friendly and seemed a little bit more casual. They were really extremely professional, as well. They showed me a couple of rooms, and they did a good job in showing me a lot of options. "

"Kirkwood By The River is a very nice facility. I'm very happy. The people are very nice. The food was OK and not as good as I expected, but it's OK. I had an apartment when I first moved in but I had a stroke last August, so I had to move to a semi-private room for a couple of months. It's fine. There are lots of activities and amenities. Today there was a social hour. They used to take us shopping. "
