My mother is in Kirkwood by the River. I think it is a perfect fit for her needs. She has a one bedroom unit which gives her a bedroom, a walk-in closet, and also a living area with a little kitchenette as well. She likes the space where she can put all her knick-knacks and stuff. They have a very aggressive program of activities. It seems like they have something constantly from 9 o'clock in the morning to 4 to 5 o'clock in the afternoon. Sometimes, they have something after supper including movies. She likes the worship service and the bible study. They do have a pool. They have a nurse available 24/7, and they have somebody who checks every door by 9 o'clock each morning to make sure that each resident is up and OK. They have outings to the groceries or to eat. They take people to their doctors and bring them back. The staff is just incredibly caring. They seem to be very sincere. They are great people.

DONT GO TO KIRKWOOD! This place looks pretty when you walk in and the independent living may be fine but the memory care and skilled nursing is awful. You need to see the Skilled nursing unit before you decided to put your love one in any of their levels, Because they will eventually move them there. Memory care and skilled nursing are severely understaffed. it’s dirty and smells of urine, with Staff slow to respond to patients needs. The memory care is just as bad in different ways. our love one got a horrible staff infection from lack of cleaning in memory care. They leave them in the hall with no interaction. Just heartbreakingly sad.PLEASE LOOK ELSEWHERE!

I like everything about the Kirkwood by the River memory care unit. There were a lot of activities going on and a lot of happy people and residents. I saw so many friendly staff, they had a chapel inside and it was just very well organized. Even one of the owners was there, interacting with the residents. I met the chaplain and it just seemed that everyone was just super, super friendly. The staff was very hands-on with the residents, very happy in their jobs, and seem to love the residents. They're going through a renovation, adding some memory care units. The rooms were rather small and needed to be updated, and that's what they're going to do. It was very clean.

Kirkwood By The River is a very nice facility. I'm very happy. The people are very nice. The food was OK and not as good as I expected, but it's OK. I had an apartment when I first moved in but I had a stroke last August, so I had to move to a semi-private room for a couple of months. It's fine. There are lots of activities and amenities. Today there was a social hour. They used to take us shopping.

The facility was pleasantly decorated and had an ambience about it. All of the residents that I saw appeared to be engaged with each other and staff. The staff paid extra attention to the residents. There were many activities available, as well as planned outings and events at the facility itself. When mealtime came, the food appeared appetizing, the residents were eating it eagerly and those that needed some assistance received it. All in all this was a great facility. My only regret is that my grandmother didn't pass an entrance assessment. Her Alzheimer's is too advanced for them to take her on. I understand this is for her own safety, so no hard feelings there. It was a wonderful facility though.
