Independent Living Communities in Montgomery, AL

"Oak Grove Inn had a sink and a refrigerator and a little kitchen area in the room. I really liked it, and it's the best out of the ones we visited. It's out of the city. It's quiet and secluded out by itself. There are houses around, but not right up against the nursing home. You go through locked gates going in, so it's very secure. It was very nice. One of the men that's on the board showed us around and told us everything there was to tell. They had a nice sunroom that you could go and sit in, which was air-conditioned. They had such a small closet for a couple to live in. The facility was very nice and to me it was A+. They had 3 meals a day. It's very clean. The people were so friendly. They have buildings with different degrees of people, but they were all just so friendly. We stopped by the dining hall, and there were a bunch of ladies sitting and talking. We stopped and talked to them, and they're very friendly and they said they love it there. We met a couple, and they each have an apartment there next door to each other."

"I visited and it was OK but it didn't meet my aunt's needs. The person who accommodated us during the tour was nice, knowledgeable and helpful. The apartments were actually a little bigger compared to the ones in the community we picked. They had different room sizes, and the dining hall looked fine. When I first stepped inside, I was surprised because they had live birds in a cage. It was nice. Overall, the community looked fine and the people there seemed happy. I saw some residents doing laundry as well."

"The Crossings at Eastchase was a beautiful new facility. The staff seemed helpful and the rooms were in great shape with all the modern conveniences. Since it's a new facility, there's not a lot of people there yet, so I don't know if they have a lot going on. That's actually why my mom, too, didn't pick it, but for me, it's my first choice. I really liked it because it was such a nice new facility. Everything was brand new and in perfect working order, and the staff seemed good. It seemed like a great place and I liked the fact that it had all three levels together. They had a movie theater, libraries on every floor, which was pretty nice, and game rooms. They're going to have a functioning bar with happy hour, which I thought would be pretty nice too. The dining area was more like a restaurant and it was very clean with white tablecloths."

"I've toured CaraVita Village. They were very accommodating, and they were very sweet, nice people. They took me on a tour of the facility. I ate lunch with them, and the lunch was delicious. However, I just decided to find a place of my own where I can cook for myself, and I'm not obligated to eat there every meal. The rooms were painted nice with updated colors. Their countertops were fairly updated, and they had a dishwasher, a refrigerator, and a microwave, so that was good to know."

"My friend will be moving into Seton Haven. It looks like they're renovating their activity center. It's a large place. They have an outdoor garden, a very nice outdoor patio and new furniture. They're renovating the open areas that are available to every resident. They renovated some of the apartments. The apartments are respectable. I wouldn't call them luxurious. The public spaces that are available to everybody that lives there are very nice. The rooms have laminate flooring, a big window, so you could see outside well, good heating and air, a small kitchen, and a big enough bathroom. I looked at studios, where it's all one huge room. They had some with one bedroom. They had things in there if you had an emergency, but I wouldn't call it a nursing facility. Everybody is independent. Patty was awesome and very organized. She has a waiting list. There are people that want to get in there, and they can't get in there fast enough. It's an excellent location. They call it Midtown Montgomery, but it's the nice part of Midtown. The apartments are adequate, not large, not small, but open concept. The food was good. It's above what you'd expect. They had adequate choices. They have a dining area and it was rather nice. They had one inside and one outside. They had a patio. They'll stretch out the awning because Montgomery can get hot, but it's an electronic awning. Their indoor dining was quite nice. They have multiple activities, all kinds of board games, bingo, movies, and musical instruments, and people coming in and playing for the people. They take trips. They've got Zumba classes. They have a workout room. They go into the community. Some of the people have cars, but they'll all get in a van and they'll take cultural trips. There's plenty to do. They have an exercise room. They have one big room that is over 1000 square feet where they do yoga and Zumba. I saw exercise stuff like rails, bars, stretch cords, and stretch bands. They had some stationary bikes and a treadmill. The staff members really are organized, hospitable, sensitive, and caring."
