I stayed in Hernandez ALF for respite. The residents all had a bath and a shower every morning. We sat at the dining room table as a family and had our meals. It's three meals a day. There are always two staff members on duty. The meals were very Latin/Hispanic foods that we are familiar with. They had to puree all of their meals, and they did that. The menu was excellent Cuban food. We had chicken fricassee and things that residents are used to, nothing new to them. We had black beans and spaghetti, and it was very tasty. They provided snacks and a lot of juice and made sure your water bottle was always full - a lot of love and caressing. There's one lady there, and she has dementia. Sometimes she would wake up in the middle of the night screaming, but that's OK. They're very kind with her and very loving. It's a home that has four bedrooms. The gentleman shares a room, and the other two share one. Then one lady had her room, and I had my own. We had our television. I fell and broke my leg. I texted them that I went to the doctor and now I can walk with the help of a walker, so I've kept in contact with the staff. My stipulation was that when I walked in the door, I didn't want to smell urine, and you do not smell it there. They're constantly cleaning, mopping, wiping, and changing diapers/ whatever they wear. I only have good things to say about them.
