"I’ve checked out Lakehouse West. Their assisted and independent-living are separate units so if you need to go from one to the other, you get up and move out. Their coordinator and intake person was very helpful, and she keeps in contact with me. It’s a beautiful facility. When you move in, they update your apartment, but it’s a buy-in community starting upwards from $90,000 to $200,000 for a unit. You don’t have the ownership of the house. They belong to the corporation, so you have no tax advantages. You’re paying rent but even though there are administration and maintenance fees, you get nothing back. After a certain amount of time, you get a percentage back of your buy-in, but I’m not interested in that. They have a pool, an exercise room, an activity room, and they have their clubhouse specials. They have once-a-week shopping trips. They always have something going on. "

"I have very, very positive feedback for The Fountains at Lake Pointe. The place was attractive, comfortable, and very well-maintained. They have nice apartments and very lovely grounds. The food was excellent. The staff was very accommodating, polite and informative. "

"The caregivers at the Glenridge where my mom and dad are at are so above and beyond the bar. The activities director Karen (Carroll Center skilled nursing) wrote the OSU alumni and told them my dad was a cheerleeder in th 50's and they sent all kinds of memorabilia, and a plaque! The speech therapist Jo wrote me my dad could really use the ipad to communciate since he has trouble communicating with everyone due to a hemmoragic stroke. Medicare will not pay for it because he is in skilled nursing but he was really computer savy before the stroke and does respond well to techology. I am so grateful my parents are at the Glenridge, it has enabled them to have satisfying quality of life no matter the physical, or mental state they are in. "

"My mother was in the Rapid Recovery Center. As far as I know, all patients have a private room. Cleaning of the room and bathroom can use a little more detail. About 90% of the staff, nurses, aids, cleaning crew are professional and caring, the other 10% need to be fired. The only issue we had was getting my mother’s pain meds on a schedule. It took them 6 days before she started receiving them without me requesting them. I understand they are a facility that provides meds as requested by the patients but my mother’s case was different, she wasn’t able to communicate to the nurse that she was in pain. Once we got that under control, everything went smooth. I can’t say enough good things about her two therapist, they were professional and caring. I had to transfer my mother to another facility, I hope she gets treated as good as she did at Westminster. "

"I liked everything about Bay Village of Sarasota. They only had apartments, and they had a pool. It was newly decorated and newly renovated, and it was very attractive. It would have been my second choice."

"Westminster Palms was a Presbyterian-run place. I felt that they were comparable with another facility. They did have step-in showers. Unfortunately, my mother was a stroke victim and it would be hard for her to step over and stuff like that. They did tell us that they could redo the showers. The staff was good. I got there just after they were done for the meals, but I can still smell the meals and everything. You can tell a lot from the smell, it seemed pretty good. "
