My husband is now living at Greenhaven Villa. It's very small, and it only has six residents, and that was very attractive to me. He's able to move into a nicer room than the room he was in originally. The staff has been super helpful. They not only collected his specimens, but somebody had to deliver it to the hospital within an hour and they took care of that for me, for which I'm extraordinarily grateful. The support has been terrific because it's been so good. I've expressed to them a desire that it not just be respite care. I need for him to be interacting and up and about, and I need to work, and they do that at Greenhaven. He's out of his chair, out of bed interacting with people most of the day, and that's much better for him than what I could provide at home under the circumstances. It's more than assisted living. He needs to be in a locked facility because he would go out. He has to be controlled within a safe place. He can go in the backyard and they have a nice garden, but he mustn't go out to the street. They have to provide reassurance, engagement, and keep him safe, and that's what they're doing. It's very home-like. The kitchen is not off limits. There's a kitchen table and they do all the home-cooked food for the people who live there and the staff. He said it's not as good as my cooking though. The activities are very much for individuals. One of the residents left, and he has moved into that room, which is larger and more pleasant. Each room has its own bathroom. The showers are down the hall, but he has his own toilet and sink. There's a big living room with a large screen TV. I met the main staff during the day to engage with the residents. One of the residents looked as though she didn't engage with much of anybody. Another assured me she was just there temporarily. I don't really know whether my husband is engaging with the other residents, but I'm confident that his engagement with the staff is very positive. They deliver and supervise medications. I'm most pleased by the caring home-like environment where safety is combined with comfort.
