Mountlake Terrace is a suburban city in Snohomish County situated about 20 minutes north of downtown Seattle. According to the 2020 census, about 12.6% of its 21,286 residents are aged 65 and older. The city’s appeal is partly the sparse population — which makes it easier to get around — but also its low levels of violent crime, quick access to healthcare facilities and senior-friendly climate. Additionally, the city has several popular parks and there are plenty of coffee shops, restaurants and boutique stores.
Assisted living facilities are ideal for seniors who may sometimes struggle to perform everyday tasks or want to live among others in their age group. The facilities take care of daily chores, such as cooking meals, managing medications and housekeeping. They also organize activities and events for their residents. Seniors can expect to pay around $5,000 per month for assisted living in Mountlake Terrace, which is below the state average.
This guide considers the advantages and disadvantages of living in Mountlake Terrace. It also reviews the cost of assisted living and other types of senior care and lists some available aging-related resources in the area.

We’ve found a place for my husband in Mountlake Terrace. It’s called Amazing Care AFH and it’s a private family-run business. The place was so lovely. When I walked in, the gentleman, Jim, and the woman that runs it, Elizabeth, were just so caring and kind. It was the best thing I did for my husband. Elizabeth now has her license to run it with her son, Sammy. They adore my husband, and he adores them.
It’s all fenced-in yard, it’s a rambler, so when you walk in, there’s a living room to the right and you can go straight to the kitchen then on the left there’s 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. It goes all the way around the hall and back to the kitchen, family room, or dining room, and then the living room. With dementia, my husband walks a lot so this was the perfect setup. It was the second house I saw and I fell in love with it.
I think it’s just assisted living. They make his meals, do his laundry, change his bedding, and help shower him. He wasn’t walking for a while, so they had to move him around in a wheelchair and bathe him every day. He’s walking there now and they just help bathe him. He loves it there.
The food is great. She makes fresh kale vegetables every night with meat or a protein and he’s eating very nicely. The atmosphere is great too. Elizabeth is so upbeat and she is just a wonderful person. Yesterday, they put on a CD with music and she said, "Let’s dance" and my husband was just cracking up while she danced. It’s just a great atmosphere. It’s also a very clean place.
For activities, he only likes listening to music and playing his guitar. He sleeps a lot, so he doesn’t do a lot. I went over there one time and he hadn’t had lunch so I went over and woke him up to have him eat. I brought him some food and he loved it. Activity-wise, they sometimes go outside for a walk in the yard. They have a ramp down in the backyard, and they sit out there for a little while in the two-seater chair that they have. He doesn’t do many activities. He just usually listens to YouTube music and stuff, that’s what he likes.
There’s another resident there, she’s older than him and she has dementia too, but they get along so well.
He wets all the time because he’s incontinent but his room never smells like urine. There’s only one time that he smelled and it was because they didn’t realize what it was. It was his shoes, he must have peed on them and nobody noticed. That’s the only time though. Other than that, his clothes and his beddings are always clean, and the bedroom is always aired out.

Two-thirds of their community don’t need any assistance. They’re just retired, downscaled, and got money. Only a third of their residents needed assistance. That’s the impression that I got. I saw their dining room and their menu was quite impressive. I saw what was on a couple of plates when we walked by, and it looked pretty good to me. They showed me the apartment that my mom could have, but it was not ready for a resident to move in yet. The rest of the place was nice. They had a movie room. They had a huge library, and it was massive. They also had a dance floor.

The facilities were great and consistent. What is most impressive is the care from the staff. Our mother fell, broke her hip, and was in the hospital for 3 weeks. She ran out of money, received help from the Good Samaritan Fund, and was welcomed back to Crista after being turned down by her insurance to go to a Rehab facility. When she left Crista, she was at the lowest level of care. When she returned, she was at the highest level of care! Crista took her back despite the difference and she went back on to Hospice. Both Crista and Hospice have worked together to give her the best care we could imagine. We are thoroughly impressed with their caring spirit and consistent direct care. Thank you to the Head Nurse, Tirunesh, Grace, and many others who serve the residence for allowing her to come back in and for the gracious gift of the Good Samaritan Fund to allow her to stay. She is likely days away from transitioning to her next life, but we are grateful children. Thank You Staff!

Staff are wonderful and make you feel at home and cared for. There are always activities planned and have a large turn out of residents at each activity. Food is good and the place is odor free and clean. It would be nice if they would redecorate the interior, as it does not do Riverside East justice. It’s a little out dated and as I look back, was almost why we didnt choose to move here, but happy we did!
