"I completed a tour of Valiente Senior Living and Memory Care. It's kind of all wrapped up in one big ball and an all-in-one place. It was very clean and there was no odor. The administrator is a very nice man and seems to be very into his job of making sure that the clients have exactly what they need. I was impressed by that but I don't think that we will end up there for two reasons. Number one, it's quite a bit farther away from our home than I thought it was going to be. It's a 40-minute drive and I can't do that every day of the week. Number two, while it was lovely and had everything that I love, it was quite expensive and beyond my budget. It seemed the staff was lovely and the administrator was super nice. They had their dog in there too and all the clients were in love with the dog. It was very nice but as I said, the distance and the cost were too much for me. I love the tour. I thought the tour was great and I think the place is great. It's really a nice setting, kind of rurally, with lots of trees and living spaces outside as well as inside. I was there for an hour and everybody was on their best behavior. I expect that if you're in there, you will enjoy it. All their clients were happy, clean, and well-fed. I think that the manager was great. I think he had great ideas, he is really determined to give his clients the very best, and he actually cares about these people. My parents have passed, but they were both in a nursing home, and I would have done anything to get them into Valiente Senior Living and Memory Care. It is much better and so much nicer. My parents' nursing home was horrifying so it was really nice to see that there actually could be a better situation than that. The big thing is that they also only have 16 beds so it's like a huge family but it's not 300 people so it's wonderful. I think that a small way to go is just the way to go. It really is more individualized care. You get to know your clients better than you would when there are 300 of them. The administrator told me that the people who were coming there actually stayed. Their family isn't like, "Oh my God, get him out of there". They appreciate it and enjoy it. They have a lot of involvement with the families too. They have many activities where they would have 70 or 80 people there. They get all the family members and have dinners and celebrations. I guess if they are willing to participate, they must love how their loved ones are doing. I didn't eat there but from what the administrator told me, the clients are getting healthy meals. He said they buy all their food at HEB so there's no frozen pizza, frozen burrito, or any crappy kind of fast food thrown at them. A cook was there cooking homemade, vegetable soup when I got there and it smelled really good so I think they're eating very well. The smell is also super important to me, and it smelled like my own house so it was great. It was a little scuffed up, but everybody's house had little spots on the wall too. The wear and tear is a real thing and they got a lot of people in that house but it was still nice. I would say it's certainly not this beautiful Homes and Gardens cover story but it was very nice."

"The Landing at Augusta Woods Senior Living is brand new. We were there as visitors and looked like it was well-managed. They have other places nationwide and I liked that everything was clean and nice. The rooms were quite good, especially the deluxe one-bedroom. It had a good amount of space, considering it's a one-bedroom. It had a smaller refrigerator and smaller counter space than the regular kitchen in a regular house, but that's not that bad. The dining room was very nice and the food was good. The service was a little slow as they were short on the waitstaff, but they're working on that. They have quite a few activities listed. Once a month, somebody comes in and gives lectures to them. The staff was very nice and very friendly, too. They have this little program called ambassadors. So, whenever somebody is new or visiting, they picked a person that was very akin to what you are going through or the kind of lifestyle you have. That's your person who kind of stays and hangs around you. Since we're both in the military, our ambassador was a man that was also in the Air Force. When everybody was coming into the dining room, you could see the tables with all the names. They wanted everybody to grab their own name and set it with them. So, when a new person was walking around, she could start seeing everybody's name and whoever she sat down with, the names of the people she was sitting with were right there. I thought that was nice."

"Village Green meets and exceeds every standard of care. My father who is a resident there calls Village Green “Heaven”! He has been in several different care facilities and this place is off the charts in comparison. Village Green actually does what they say they will do for your loved one. If you are looking for a memory care facility that will meet your loved one where they are, care for their needs individually, treat them as a unique person and worthy of love and care than this is the place for you. If you want a facility that sees their residents are tasks to be done, than move on. You will not regret joining hands with Village Green. They will treat you and your family like their family. I absolutely love this place."

"Sycamore Creek Ranch-Cypresswood was very nice. I would have been very comfortable putting Mom there, and that's not far away. By the time that I was there, just touring it and talking to people, everything seemed nice. The residents seemed very happy. The person who gave me the tour was very informative. Everybody else, when we passed them in the hall, spoke and was friendly. So, the staff seemed fine and everybody seemed to engage with the residents, which I thought was a good sign."

"I would have preferred my father to go here. The rooms were a little bit smaller, but I liked that place. It was a combo assisted and active living. Everybody is together there. My father felt like there were too many assisted living. The people were a lot worse off than my dad there, that's why we didn't pick that place. The staff was very nice. They had a salon. I liked it because it was close to Collins Park, and my dad worked at Collins Park. He can go out the back door and he can ride his bike, and it looks safer to get there. It was very clean. They provided transportation."

"My wife was at Spring Cypress. Everything about it was an A-plus in my opinion. I think the management and the care overall were exceptional, and it's a very, very fine facility to begin with. I moved her out because I wanted to move back to Arizona where we had more contacts. Spring Cypress had about every activity you could think of, from numerous games to working on speech therapy and exercises. Her room was very, very nice. I got her a queen-sized bed with two bedside tables, a dresser, a TV, a recliner chair, and a bookshelf wall unit. They have a very nice courtyard where they could go out and walk and sit. The interaction with the staff was very good, and the communication with me was exceptional also."

"I found the facility to be quite nice, though the staff tended to be short- not exactly rude, but not welcoming or kind, either. The food provided was adequate, and the restrooms were extremely clean. My grandmother has a handful of friends here, though she says the staff plays favorites. She really, really appreciates having so many facilities onsite, as being able to get to church was a big concern of hers. The landscaping is beautiful, and the rooms are spacious. "

"My mom has been lived here for several years. Although we haven’t been allowed in the facility for 10 months because of the virus it has been an excellent place for my mom. They go above and beyond on kindness and care of the residents. I have been very happy with the help they have given me in helping my mom. "

"I'm in assisted living in Wood Glen Court. So far, I'm having difficulty with transportation and I'm spending my morning working on getting appointments and transportation arranged. I have a two-bedroom and it has a walk-in closet. I have my own furniture in here. The services are okay except for transportation. The dining area is large and the food is tolerable. We have a beauty salon that I go to, and I have my own library, but they have one here. They have several activities throughout the day. One reason I came here was because it was cheaper."

"Cypress Assisted Living, LLC was very nice and very clean. I enjoyed talking to the people who gave me the tour and told me everything I needed to know. It was like a home converted into a senior place with seven regular bedrooms, most of them being shared rooms."

"I visited the assisted living here, and the community was a nice one. Their dining room looked fine. They had good activities and a taxi service to take the residents anywhere they wanted to go. "

"The Forum at the Woodlands seemed excellent, but very expensive. They seemed to have everything and took everything in consideration. It was clean. The people were very, very nice and helpful. They seemed to want to help as much as possible. They gave me a lot of answers, showed me around, and they took their time. They all seemed to be very caring. They were very polite to the residents. The residents seemed to be very active and they interacted very well with the staff, which I liked. The rooms were small with large windows and the view from the rooms that I saw were nice. It's the best place that I've seen. "
