At least two songs have been recorded that refer to the northern Houston suburb of Pasadena, TX, as "Pasa-gets-down-dena," in honor of the drop-of-the-cowboy-hat approach this town takes toward scheduling public dances, shindigs and assorted other Country-themed get-togethers. Seniors from the area's 75 assisted living communities are welcome to attend these events, and many local communities schedule at least occasional trips for the whole group, health permitting.
Assisted living in Pasadena, and the rest of the state, is regulated by the Texas Department of Health and Human Services, which regularly inspects facilities to ensure quality of care and living standards are observed. Seniors who live in these communities have 24-hour emergency response and room and board, plus staff assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), such as dressing and taking some medications.
