Assisted Living Communities in Stroudsburg, PA

"I visited Spring Village at Pocono. It was OK. I did not really like it. It was a little too nursing home for my family member. It had a nursing home set-up look for me. It was not a fit for my family member. What I least like about it was the furnishings to me are kind of dated. I did not see anything that jumped out at me as something I like the most. Our family member is kind of independent, even though she is 93. She is very sprightly, and the people there were kind of not as active as she is."

"Mira Vie at Brookfield was terrific. The staff who gave the tour was terrific, too. She showed me everything she possibly could show me. They were having a live music presentation at the time, and I was looking at the group of people in there listening and watching. Most were bobbing their heads or keeping time with the music with their feet. They all seemed to be enjoying it. I got a look at the entire week's activity on the main bulletin board in the lobby, so you're able to see what's going to happen on Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday, Thursday, and so forth, and so it was very well organized. I looked at the dining room and it was neat and clean, too. The staff showed me a one-person room. It had all the amenities that you could need for one person, including a step-in shower with grips. They show movies every so often, and the staff said that the movie room is always open if for some reason one of the residents can't sleep, and they want to just come down and put on a movie of their choosing, they can do that. I met the chaplain over there. He seemed very nice. After we were all done with everything, the staff took me to a conference room. We sat down and we probably talked for a good 45 minutes to an hour. She answered any questions that I had and filled in any gaps she might have left out. She gave me her card and told me she was going to stay in touch with me. I felt very, very comfortable over there. And the staff that we passed, whether they were in the hall or they were going somewhere, they all said hi, smiled, nodded, or whatever. They can arrange transportation for you. You can use their medical people or they'll take you to your own doctor of choice. It just seemed to have everything."

"We liked the location of Renaissance Home Forks. It's near my house so we can easily check on mom if she moves in there. The place was clean. It didn't have a smell like some other places that older buildings have. Mom said that she didn't notice any smell there. It was a clean facility, so she liked it. When we went there, the director was not on site, but the activity director was and she was so nice enough to show us around and give us answers. Even though she doesn't know all the administrative questions or whatnot, she was able to give us some kind of an idea of how the place was. I liked her. She made my mom agree to give it a try because she was hesitant. She also explained to us that there are certain times for food where you have to come down to the cafeteria to get your food, but if you don't feel like going down, there's a separate fee if you want your food to be brought to your room. The apartment was very nice. They have their own fridge in the room itself. You can just stay in your room and eat there. You don't have to rely on someone. We saw activities happening in the cafeteria that day. It was a pretty decent place."

"My mom moved into The Palmerton. We liked that it was smaller, so it was more personalized care. They're very nice people, very accommodating, and they are working with us to try to figure out all the different nuances of the care that my mother needs. They've done a phenomenal job of meeting her and trying to draw her out to come and join the community and meet other people. They've been very, very nice. The size of my mom's room is wonderful. We were able to bring in a love seat, several end tables, and other things, as well as pictures. We were able to personalize the room. The maintenance supervisor was amazing as far as helping us get the materials we needed and setting up the room so that it was comfortable and more likely to be familiar to my mother. The dining area people were very, very nice. They were very concerned about getting to know what would work for my mom. She had some special needs as far as vision and things like that. And they wanted to be able to work with her on that. They placed her at a table with other women who would be able to communicate and draw my mom out, and were very accommodating because my mother's boyfriend was coming up to visit her and was having dinner with her, so he could join the table and be able to spend time with my mom. They had discussions, bingo, outings, social gatherings, and outside discussions. They have people who come in and work with the residents. It's a large Pennsylvania Dutch area, and they're having an activity that talks about Pennsylvania Dutch history and involves the residents in that."

"Renaissance Home Northampton was a nice place. When I got there, the staff was helping out the residents. They were having a game day or something like that. Everybody was out having a good time. You have to wear a mask though and I'm not into that. The staff was very helpful to me. They have a TV room, a game room, and an outdoor patio with gardens where they could plant flowers or vegetables."

"I like Paragon Village, but they don't offer the level of care I need. The grounds were very nice and the staff was very nice. The dining atmosphere and the rooms were excellent. The only problem was they didn't have an intermediate level of care between assisted living and nursing. They have rehabilitation on-site, an on-site nail and hair salon, games, movies, and they do social activities like a sewing club and picture club. The people I met were really good, very caring, and professional. I would recommend them. It's a newer facility, really nice, and clean."
