"I'm very impressed with Birchwood Suites. I liked it very much, but I want to see other options, and the price was high. I want independent living, and I'd like to have a place to sit outside, and I am coming with my cat. I like that I had kind of my own cottage with two entrances, and it had an outside little tiny patio where I could sit. I spoke to the director, Natasha, and she led me around the place. She was very nice and very encouraging. The facility looked pretty good. I had a separate bedroom, a separate living room, and a small kitchenette. The bathroom looked good."

"I got to tour Atria East Northport. Diego gave me a tour. It was very pleasant surroundings. Lovely outdoors. People seemed to be active. There were activities and opportunities to watch movies and do various activities. Nice accommodations as far as the room accommodations. The common areas were very nice, too. I liked Atria East Northport. It also happened to be within walking distance of my house. My husband, as the weeks passed, became more and more debilitated, so I needed a place with a little more hands-on nursing, so Atria would have been my choice for assisted living. It appeared to be clean and well-kept. Nice physical surroundings. The staff was very pleasant, very accommodating, and very available. He made himself available if I had any questions. He would either answer immediately or get right back to me. And as we walked around, the other staff were smiling and friendly."

"Sunrise of East Setauket is a great place. Mom is in memory care. It's very clean and homey, and they got very caring people. She likes it there. She's got her own room with her own bathroom. Of course, you got to pay a little bit more because it's private, but it's what she wanted and it is reasonably priced. The care managers are excellent. If there was anything that you were not happy with, they rectified it. The food is cooked and they give them two options for each meal. So, they get to pick what they want. They have occasional activities and certain holidays. Some of the aides will sing with them, too. They have a wraparound porch with Adirondack chairs and rocking chairs for the residents to sit on in nicer weather."

"I toured The Village at South Setauket's assisted living facility for my mom. I felt like it was safer for her because she would be wearing a pendant. In case something happens, she just has to hit the pendant, which she will be wearing all throughout her stay. My mom also liked the place and told me she felt comfortable there. The apartments were very clean and spacious, and the person who gave the tour was very friendly. They helped us a lot and answered all my questions. The dining area was big, but I didn't check the food. During our visit, they were playing bingo with the residents, and they looked happy."

"We toured Sunrise of Dix Hills. I thought it was very good as far as I'm concerned. My mother-in-law at this moment stays in a room and it looks like the Sunrise facility was more likely to get her more involved, plus, it's $4,000 a month cheaper. We went out to all the rooms and spoke to the different people involved and saw all the facilities they had. They're fine. They're clean and bright and they have windows to the inside. So it looks like you have your own apartment. You can even have a cat and they have a cat that runs around there. We checked the dining area. They have an assortment of foods. Also, if for some reason you don't like any of the foods, they'll make you a basic hamburger, hot dog, or some basic food above and beyond what they're cooking. The staff was great."

"My mom moved to The Arbors at Bohemia. The staff is pretty accommodating and the nurses. The facilities are clean. The price was reasonable. The layout is pretty good. My mom said the food is good there. There's always something to do there. They take them out if they want to go to the store and stuff like that. They have a beauty parlor there and they do their nails. For the value of money, everything is inclusive."

"We toured All American Assisted Living at Coram. I talked to the girl. She answered my questions and gave me more information about other things. She gave me a tour of the facility, which I liked. She gave my mom a gift. My mom liked that place. When you go to some places, they smell, and there's an odor sometimes, but All American Assisted Living doesn't have that. It was pretty, and everything was clean. The memory care unit had a patio, a bistro, a living room in front, and a craft room."

"Atria Huntington is a very good place. It's excellent. My friend gets very good care, and he is very happy there. His room is very large. The building was a school once, so everybody had one large room and a bathroom. The food is very good. They have a dining room and three meals a day. It's very nice. They have two movies a day, they have music singers, speakers, and things like that, and they have holiday parties. They have very nice activities. I go there frequently."

"I toured Sunrise of Holbrook. I like the openness and the airiness. The people that work there, in general, are informative, and very nice, and even some of the patient's family I spoke to. They had nothing but good words to say about them. They showed me the kitchen. I did try a little of their dessert, and it was excellent. Everything is excellent there. I like the aides and the staff. They're always helping the patients in one way or another. No one's hiding from anyone and everyone is open. The patients looked happy, clean, and very healthy. The staff was excellent."

"I got to Sunrise of Huntington early, so I walked around the whole place and checked the parking. The landscaping was good. I went in and they showed me those boards, like a little computer terminal where you put your name so it's on file that you're in the building for the safety of the residents. I was given a tour of the building and I was taken to a room. It was a two person room, but it was just being set up, and I couldn't find anything negative about it. They had the menu. They had the people that would help and they also had a nurse. If a resident needed medicine, they would do that too. They were friendly. They said their hellos. They were setting up for something where somebody was going to play an instrument or something. I was shown to the room, how it was set up, and the bedrooms had grab bars."

"Divine Serenity Assisted Living looked like it was a residence that they converted to individual rooms. The time I was there, as far as I know, the residents were either on a trip or going to the doctor, so there were no residents there. The lady showed me the area where they would be doing work in the building. She also showed me a room. She answered all my questions. She told me how they take care of the residents. They have a nurse that comes in and a doctor. If the resident has to take medicine they take care of that too."
