"Sunrise of Smithtown was very depressing. I'm 74 and my wife is 71, and I'm not in great shape. I was looking at it and said this is a nursing home. There were people in wheelchairs. I thought it was something different, but I got the wrong vibe. It wasn't for me. The apartment had two rooms that were very small and had a microwave and bathroom. I'm coming from my house with four bedrooms, half acre of land and a pool, so it was very depressing. The facility was very nice, clean, and beautiful, and the people were very considerate, very nice, and showed us around, but it wasn't for me."

"I went to Whisper Woods of Smithtown. I thought they were very helpful. It seems like the staff is very good, the amenities are very good. I just had a good feeling about it. It's reasonably priced. They have a doctor on staff, they also have nurses. So from a medical standpoint, I think they're very good. My parents are planning to move in on the first of July. The activities were good. I think it was comparable to other places. They have the standard stuff bingo, puzzles, and they have movies and cards. I hadn't eaten there, but the menus are pretty good. They also have, in between the dining areas breakfast, lunch, dinner, but then if you want something in between, that's fine. You always have, like, the standard stuff, the burger stuff, but then they always do a special every day, you know, for lunch and dinner. The staff was very helpful. We communicate like every few days right now, just kind of helping kind of transition my parents over there."

"The people at Sunrise at Holbrook were very friendly and organized. There was nothing wrong with the place. The residents seemed busy. The facility was clean. The people there seemed active. The rooms that we saw were nice and suitable. "

"My mother’s been at The Arbors East over a year and a half and it was the best decision we could’ve made. She loves the staff, everyone is friendly and exceptionally good to her. She is very happy with the food, the quality and selection and, as she puts it “the goodies” in the afternoon. She plays mahjongg, canasta, and several card games. She participates in the trips out on their bus, to the movies and stores, but not to the restaurants because she says she likes the food there, so why bother. Her medical care is taken care of by the efficient Wellness Center and the doctors who visit her there regularly. All-in-all we couldn’t be happier - highly recommended!"

"My mom is a resident at The Arbors at Bohemia. Placing a loved one in an assisted living community is a difficult decision that I faced three years ago. Now I can say with certainty, it was the best decision. The staff at the Arbors go above and beyond to welcome residents into the community. Because it is a smaller community, the wellness department can address the individual needs of each resident. During visits, I am able to watch these ladies perform their duties with patience and care. The staff has become part of our family, and that is what makes being at The Arbors like being home!"

"The caring, attentive staff at The Arbors makes this facility a standout among assisted living facilities. I have had the pleasure of interacting with the employees of The Arbors on numerous occasions. Each time Nancy, Meghan and Howard have been stand outs in their field. The setting is clean ,bright and updated with a huge amount of daily activities. Each day there is bus trip that residents can participate in that takes them out of the community as well. The room is huge and totally redone with a private bathroom and modern furnishings. I believe that the staff makes or breaks an assisted living facility and this one is a winner. "

"Birchwood is in a beautiful community, pretty well-maintained, but more than what I would need at this time. The one independent living apartment just didn't look very inviting at all. The staff was wonderful, and it looked like the people there were treated wonderfully. The area is located conveniently halfway from both of my children. The staff was wonderful, they had plenty of staff to help with the feeding of residents, the doctors come to the facility, and it was well equipped. Everyone was extremely friendly, and they go out of their way to engage the residents."

"I am so thankful I found this place, taking care of My father who was 80 years old was becoming hard on me and my family, we didn’t like the idea of a nursing home so we opted for Divine Serenity. Best decision ever!! My father would call me and tell me how well taken care of he is there, along with being served 3 great meals daily. Danielle is always at the top of her game, from scheduling his doctor appointments to medication schedule, she has never missed a beat. The home is stunning sitting on an acre of land, it provides a safe outdoor area for my father to take walks, or just sit and relax on a nice day. "This is a wonderful community. It is spacious, airy and open. The residents have a full schedule of activities and a lively Happy Hour every day. The staff are friendly and helpful whenever I visit. I see them interacting in a caring and compassionate manner. I would definitely recommend this community."

"Everything about it was good. I came away with no negatives. The staff were helpful, friendly, and answered any questions. They told us things we didn't even realize. They had plenty of activities for you to do. They had the courtyard, the gym, the rec hall, and the room for movies."

"My mom will be moving in to Maplewood at Strawberry Hill next month. It is a relatively new facility. It is clean. The main reason why we choose it is because of the location relative to where my mom lives now. They have transportation to services that my mom currently uses, and that is a big factor that she is keeping the services that she has. She will be moving in to a studio, but we are going on a list for a one-bedroom. We didn't try to eat there, but their facility looks clean and organized. For what they say they offer, they seem to offer activities there in the facility whether it is exercise, art classes, craft projects, or movies. They also have activities off-site. So we are looking forward to see what it can be. "

"The setting is like a bed and breakfast. It offers a home environment with a beautiful view of rolling hills and horses from a deck. It's a warm homie setting."

"The Team at Maplewood Darien have been amazing since we transitioned my Mother there 3 months ago. You really get a feeling of community from the very beginning and the staff are 100% involved with my Mother's day to day routine. Everyone on staff knows my Mom and they all know me as well! Carrie H. and Susanne B. did an amazing job of helping us get my Mother moved and settled in quickly and they were there every day to reassure her about the move. I no longer worry about her every minute of the day as I know the staff makes sure she is getting to all of her meals and activities and not sitting alone in her apartment all day. "
