"We found that Sunrise provides; if somebody has to be in a wheelchair, they will accommodate that. It has a homey atmosphere, and they have 60 to 70 rooms; there were studio room or two rooms and each have a bedroom and a living room. The staff has been very accommodating and very helpful. They have bingo, sing-alongs, they have somebody that comes in and plays the piano, and they have celebrations for the various holidays. "

"Sunrise of Holbrook is really nice and the people are very nice. It's more like a home rather than an institution. I don't think there's enough things for the men to do there though since it's 90% women. I talked to them about that and they're trying to pick up some other things for men to do, or maybe have a men's club. A lot of the people there do not like the food. The breakfasts are good, but they all seem to complain about the lunches and dinners, and the selections aren't very good, which is what I hear from my father and other people. Housekeeping comes in every day to make the bed, and once a week they change the bed, do the laundry, and clean the whole place. There are different rooms for people to sit in, and there's a TV in every room. The staff is very good, very friendly, they're always looking after the people there, and they care of my father. They do a lot of things for memory, like matching games to keep their minds active. It's very expensive to stay there since they charge you for everything, like distributing medication, and when you need help with showers, they only assist three times a week. If you want more, you have to pay more. We're paying over $7,000 a month to be there."

"I went to Whisper Woods of Smithtown. I thought they were very helpful. It seems like the staff is very good, the amenities are very good. I just had a good feeling about it. It's reasonably priced. They have a doctor on staff, they also have nurses. So from a medical standpoint, I think they're very good. My parents are planning to move in on the first of July. The activities were good. I think it was comparable to other places. They have the standard stuff bingo, puzzles, and they have movies and cards. I hadn't eaten there, but the menus are pretty good. They also have, in between the dining areas breakfast, lunch, dinner, but then if you want something in between, that's fine. You always have, like, the standard stuff, the burger stuff, but then they always do a special every day, you know, for lunch and dinner. The staff was very helpful. We communicate like every few days right now, just kind of helping kind of transition my parents over there."

"My Mom moved into The Arbors Assisted Living one year ago at the age of 92. My Dad had passed about 10 years prior, and she was living with her son and daughter in law. She was home most of the time alone staring at the walls or the TV. We brought her to The Arbors and she came to life again. She is never in her room and loves all of the activities, food, residents. I have not seen her this happy for a very long time. Now her children and grandchildren and great children can enjoy her and not have to worry about her being alone, and her care is taken care of, they can just enjoy her. The Arbors has been a blessing to say the lest. "

"The Arbors wasn’t as nice, but it was a more reasonable place. They said that they provide a lot of activities, but I did not witness any of them. The rooms were very nice, very clean, and small, but they were nice. Their common area was quite nice as well. I liked that it’s one level, my aunt prefers a one-level, and it’s more reasonably priced than the other place I looked at. "

"The apartments are OK at The Arbors at Hauppauge, but I don’t like the idea of two people in one room. Their dining area is also OK. "

"I visited Birchwood Suites in East Northport and toured their assisted living. It's clean and doesn't smell, has a lot of activities, and a nice staff. The person who gave the tour was also very nice. They offer medication management, entertainment, and three meals a day with snacks. They also offer housekeeping, safety, and laundry services. They assist with eating, insulin management, catheter management, and assistance for wheelchair-bound people who need it."

"I was sincerely welcomed for a tour of the brand new facility. Very knowledgable representatives. I'm proactive in planning for the future (75 years old) and I'm not ready yet for a senior center (too little private space, fixed meal plan),.. I'm dealing with the 12 stairs at home. I am very interested in Maplewood, but not yet."

"Maplewood at Strawberry Hill was very clean. There were a lot of windows and a lot of natural light. The staff that I met was very professional and very pleasant, and the tour guide, Cary Jackson, was very good. There was a garden courtyard and a hair salon. The dining area was very nice, well-lit, clean, and pleasant."

"Maplewood at Orange has exceeded our families' expectations. The care and kindness they have shown my Mom and our family has been exceptional.
