"We toured Thrive at Montvale. We liked the amenities, and we liked the fact that it was very new and very fresh. It was very nice. The staff was great, and we enjoyed the tour. We liked their meal plan and the size of the facility. It was not too big and not too small. We liked the fact that they could move from independent to assisted living if they needed to. The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly, and they wanted to get to know my parents, which was good. The cleanliness was great. We liked the courtyard quite a bit. They had a garden room and a giant LEGO area for families to play in, and they had water features, but the units were a little bit on the small side. The atmosphere was vibrant, and we liked the setup, the layout, and the spaces."

"My mother has been there since being released from rehab due to cardiac triple-bypass surgery. She started on their 30-day "Road Home" program but, liked it so much, that she is now a permanent resident! Kudos to the staff, residents and the wonderful place that I love visiting her at. It is not too large and feels like a warm, beautiful home. I am so happy she is there participating in their long list of daily activities. She is a young 78 year old in the group but is having such a great time that it is hard to reach her on the phone in her room! "

"Sunrise of Crestwood had a lot of open outside areas for the residents. The layout of the facility was very nice. They also have quite a few activities that the residents can enjoy, which was a plus. The tour guide was very thorough and answered all the questions. We then met the very personable chef and had lunch in a private room that was very nice and quiet. The food was delicious. They were accommodating. The calendar of all their events was extensive. We looked at one-bedroom apartments and they had nice layouts. They had a little kitchenette with a microwave oven."

"I was really impressed with CareOne and how it was ran. It was a beautiful facility. But the cost was so expensive, and they didn’t accept Medicaid. I loved that they had a glass enclosure with birds, and it was a very calm environment, and then they had something with fish, so it was something different than the other places. They were actually in the middle of doing construction when we were there. I thought it was beautiful but very costly. The location was very nice; the environment was very nice. I didn’t see too many staff members, but I think we might have come at a time when people were eating, so probably they were all in a cafeteria kind of thing. "

"Sunrise of Paramus is a little bit higher in terms of its amenities. It's a smaller community so they have more staff per person. And also they were willing to keep my parents together in the same room. The place is absolutely clean. They have music and people coming all the time for entertainment. They have a lot of on-site physical therapy. They also have a Connor Institute chef, so I think the food may have been more elaborate. They have a wonderful, very accommodating, and very kind staff. I didn’t see any negative behavior when I visited the facility. "

"I am in Brighton Gardens now. They offered respite care. I was able to make the arrangements very easily over the phone. I've only been here for six weeks. I have a room, it's about 350 sq. ft., and it has a kitchenette area. It has two very generous closets and a very big bathroom with a handicap shower, and it's very pleasant. Windows are very important to me, and they have the biggest windows I saw in any assisted living places that I visited, or in the pictures. These windows are absolutely beautiful, and my room is flooded with light all day long, so that's what's important to me. The staff is extremely pleasant, for the most part, very helpful, and it's not generally hard to find help if you need it. The food is mediocre. Sometimes it's very good, and sometimes you really wish it would go away. It's very changeable, except that their vegetables are all fresh vegetables, and their fruit is very good. I have not taken part in any activities. I am not that type of person, but we did have a St. Patrick's Day party the other evening, and that was a great load of fun. "

"I toured Juniper Village at Paramus. I liked the cleanliness, the level of professionalism and friendliness with the staff, and the amenities. It truly does feel like you're walking into a little resort. It's a nice apartment setting. It seems like the staff knows the patients by name which is helpful. They have a lot of activities to keep the residents occupied and stimulated."

"My dad is in the Atria Riverdale. This is a facility that’s very good for those who want Kosher food and who think keeping a Jewish lifestyle is important to them. I would just advise whoever is going to bring their loved one there to ask a lot of questions beforehand. It’s a facility that gives the bare minimum of what they can offer you, and if you want Kosher food or to maintain a more Jewish lifestyle and want to be in that area, then this would be the place for you. They do have a memory care facility, and there’s also a hospice facility. It’s a very clean, well taken care of, nice building. They have a lot of activities because every time I was there, there were concerts going on or different things happening downstairs. They have a computer room with a couple of computers for people to use and a dining hall that’s set up restaurant style, including the menus so you have a good choice of different entrees that you can take. They have wellness care as well for people who need to take their medications and such. They have a doctor in the facility. He’s not there daily, but he has certain hours and just comes to visit the patients. They have a beauty salon and other amenities as well. The staff is very nice -- the nurses and everybody I met were very nice. The people in there seemed to be very happy as well. "

"The staff were wonderful and very nice. My only problem with Allendale was it was such a large place; it would be too confusing for my aunt. It was a beautiful and clean facility -- I have no complaints. It was not modern, but not old, and I found it to be very hotel like. I was impressed. "

The only thing that I had a little problem with was the price. Otherwise, I would be very happy with it, if and when my husband might need it. "

"It seems like a nice place. The exterior area is somewhat institutional though. The apartment that they would have given me is a nice size, although the view is not as appealing. It is a view of traffic and parking lots. The salesperson was very nice. I was able to try the food, and it was alright. The interior is appealing. It shows tastes. There are nice seating areas. However, the exterior is more institutional."

"Lohman Village at The Wartburg Adult Care Community was very nice. I like their independent living facility and they are not very pricey. The staff was all very friendly, the amenities were nice, and their common dining room was also nice. This is where both the assisted living residents and the independent living residents go to. I would recommend this facility to others. "
