"Sunrise of Des Peres was busy in a good way. The staff was very engaged with the residents. It was comfy, cozy, clean, nice, and roomy. The rooms were a little small though, and I didn't see a whole lot of people. The outdoor space was small as well. The staff didn't really show me a lot."

"My mother will be moving into Autumn View Gardens - Ellisville. It is in a different league. The people that are there, you can see life in their eyes. They're engaged. They're not just a beating heart and a mouth to feed. They had a luau and they made tie-dyed shirts. They had an Elvis impersonator. They bake cookies for the support dogs that come in. It's like a mother hen and her little chicks, the way they bring them all together at mealtimes in one place. They don't let them eat in their rooms alone. They have this giant front porch with chairs and swings. It's covered and it is just delightful. The staff members are happy to be there. They love their jobs. One other thing I really like about this one is that it's all-inclusive. They don't nickel and dime you for everything. There are no surprise charges. It feels like sunshine. It feels so good. They have welcoming parties when people come and move in. I can't wait for her to get there."

"I toured here. They had a nice garden. They have nice apartments. I noticed they had full-sized kitchens and refrigerators. They were located in an urban area, which is nice for people who don't drive. All the people I met there were very nice. It seemed like a very good community. The staff was very good. He's very personable, very nice, covered everything, and took me around. I liked him and he was responsive to me when I had questions. They had a lovely dark area and a nice activity area. They have physical therapy and stuff like that. I think there was a theater. They offered transportation within 15 miles, I believe, and they were pet-friendly."

"My mother will do respite care here for the fourth time. I pretty much liked everything about it. The atmosphere as soon as I walked in the door, I just knew it felt homey. I liked the activities that they did and the interaction. She went on the tour with me and they made her feel welcome. I fell in love with the staff. While I was touring, she sat with some of the other residents and she was comfortable there. She ate all her food there. The place was very clean and it smelled clean. It was just like walking in The Hilton."

"I went to Clarendale Clayton. I saw the interiors, a number of different apartments or suites, a fitness area, and the restaurants. I got a pretty complete tour of the facility. The location was very good. It's almost brand new, so it's very nice. The staff was great and answered all our questions. They had a theater where they show films and some nice lounge areas. It was pretty expensive for me though. I didn't think it was gonna be realistic for me to live there. It's an excellent facility, but it's a high-rise, and from my point of view, where it's located, it's not really conducive to walking out into a neighborhood or to a park or something like that. There's a parking garage, but I like having my car outside the door where I can just walk out without going on an elevator. They do have a valet, but they cost money, too."

"My mother has been in Fountainbleau Nursing Center since October. The facility is very clean. It's a single floor unit that has four wings, with 10 rooms in each wing. It also has a memory care unit which is what we needed, and it is close to where I live. My mom was allowed to have her own furniture in her room . The staff is very attentive and would report to me about how she's doing as far as her participation and her acceptance, medical care, among other things. They have activities like trivia, bingo, card games, bowling, and Bible readings. "

"My mother-in-law is in Crystal Oaks. I like that it's small and intimate. The staff know all the residents. It's very peaceful. There are nice areas to walk outside and sit. They have bingo and ample opportunity to interact with the other residents. They have outdoor activities. There's a bus that could take them places. They offer three meals a day, laundry services, and a salon. The staff is very helpful."

"My mother moved to the assisted living facility of StoneBridge The Villas in De Soto. Currently, we're dealing with an air conditioner issue. We're having a major heat wave, and they don;t have control over the temperatures in their own apartments. It's an older facility, and they're doing the best that they can, out of the circumstances, because everyone's air conditioners are struggling with this heat. The staff members were just really easy to work with. The social worker we were working with was working great and allowed things to go as easily as possible. They also have the nursing care people, they do the OT and PT, and they can even do the labs and some of the other stuff there. It's just been a great experience so far. My mom is 84 and extremely picky about food. Within the first week that she was there, I ate a couple of meals with her, because family members are allowed to eat with their relatives if they choose to, and they don't charge you for that. In my opinion, the food was good. They're home-cooked meals, the kind of meals that I would have had when I was growing up. My mom positively loves them, overall. She said they're really good, although sometimes, they overcook the breakfast just a bit. They have a library section with large prints, and they are changed every so often by the city library that we have in De Soto. They also have an activity room. They do activities, although not as many as some other places might have. They have an 8:30 exercise class for anyone who wants to do it, and they always have something at 11 o'clock. It could be games or some kind of a mental activity that keeps the brain active and working well. I would call that a memory enhancement activity. They have something in the afternoon, too. They do a lot of bingo, and there is a small area where they can watch DVDs and movies. They can even do a movie night if they want to. They have a puzzle section there, with all these huge puzzles that they can work on if they want to, any time during the day. They also have a lot of individual types of stuff. They have exercise and equipment in the rehab. They are keeping the place very clean. The maintenance people are amazing. They're there Monday through Friday. You don't see them as much on the weekends, but they will come in for emergencies. It's not a top-of-the-line fancy facility, but this one is inclusive with its price. Everything is included, even my mom's hair getting washed and styled by a beautician. They even do nails there, as well. You can't compare it to the big fancy places that have a theater built in with the seats and the screen. This facility is more of a home-type theater, like when your family sits down to watch a movie. It's going to be that kind of a theater experience. I've lived here since '95, and I've taught here since '84, and it's been here that long. It's gone through different name changes. It was built as a recreation place, way back, so it is not a brand new facility. Aside from the price, we chose this place because my mom liked it when she toured it. They also have a number of different apartment set ups. They're individual, so you do not have to share with someone else. You just pick the size that fits you and your budget. Having her own patio outside was also a big decision because not all of the rooms have that. Another thing is the location. It's right here where we live, so it's really close."
