Assisted Living Communities in Waterloo, IL

"My in-laws moved into Bradford Place. I think it was excellent. It's clean. They're very friendly. The director is very knowledgeable. They don't have a nurse on staff 24/7, but there is a nurse practitioner that comes in weekly. They do have the pull cords. There are several aides available 24 hours a day. There are three meals a day that comes with it. They have no complaints about the food. Every time that I've stopped in, I've seen them cleaning and straightening it up. It smells clean, and very well taken care of. They have a one-bedroom apartment, so it has a kitchenette, a large bathroom that is wheelchair accessible, with a walk-in shower. They do memory therapy, occupational therapy, and so forth. I chose it for the location, it was a plus because once I went in there, it was clean, and they were accommodating. It's a small community, which I like. So it's not a huge location. It seems more family-oriented as you go within."

"I like Friendship Village. They have nice rooms. They have different restaurants in the building, so you can go to any restaurants for your meal. They have rooms and cottages. The facility was very nice. "

"My mother is at St. Louis Hills Assisted Living and Memory Care. It's been good. It's still relatively new. They've been attentive. They meet my mother's needs. The food is good, too. They had Salisbury steak, mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, and assorted desserts. They had a wonderful pumpkin cheesecake for Thanksgiving. They had shredded pork loin yesterday. They had Brussels sprouts. For breakfast, they have sausage, bacon, and eggs or oatmeal. For activities, they have a separate movie room, and they have movies three days a week. They've taken residents to shop over at Target if they want to. My mom's mental status has declined quite rapidly, so she's not participating in activities, but they encourage the residents to come to the first level and hang out there. They have a game room where you go and read, play games, and do puzzles. "

"My wife doesn't see very well and The Mary Culver Home is designed only for visually impaired women, and they've been in business for 150 years, so I like it. It's a small home. It only got 27 private rooms, so she gets a lot of one-on-one attention and they're very good. They are very attentive towards her and I would highly recommend anybody if their spouse is visually impaired, because that's the one requirement to get in. I like the fact that the patient to staff ratio was like 7 to 1 and the food's good. My wife seems to enjoy the food and they do activities with them all the time. So, they try to get them involved in various activities and I'm pleased. The rooms are small, but they're all private, and they have a private bathroom in them. It's plenty and big enough to get around. I think the home was built in 1966, I believe, so it is an older home, but it's well-maintained. They have a dining area and they kind of wait on them like it's a restaurant. They'll come up there and take their order, and whatever they want, they'll cook it for them. They have exercise classes. They do tours of different countries and stuff like that. They listen to those kinds of tapes and then discuss them. The other day when I was there, they were doing Martin Luther King's history and life. So, they do something like that all the time for them."

"Revela at O'Fallon was brand new. It's beautiful. It's very impressive. It's huge. They have a bigger memory care wing, and so we went into that. Everything was great. It's just expensive. It's private pay, so once mom's money runs out, then she has to leave. The room was beautiful, clean, and new. The staff was very nice, and very gracious, took me around, and spent like 45 minutes with me. They have a pastry chef, so it's pretty amazing. They had a lot of people out doing things. Even within the memory care, they were participating in something. Either they were playing a game or they were doing some kind of activity. There's a courtyard, but it's all secure, and they're checking on them once an hour. It's not like they can leave without somebody knowing it, but you have the freedom to kind of move around and go to different areas."

"I toured Promenade Senior Living. Terry did a good job. She was enthusiastic. The rooms were small. It looked good, and they got a good job keeping it clean. I looked at the dining area, and it looked nice."

"It is new and it's very beautiful. The staff was very welcoming. The rooms were really big for memory care. They work with you and they reach out every week. You can tell the same kind of warmth and welcoming. I tried the food three times during the open house. With my father passing away, they even sent a meal for the family for the repast."

"My parents moved into Autumn View Gardens. We saw the room and we got to see the entrance. They showed us the cafeteria, and there was a balcony, but other than that we didn't see anything other than what we saw on film. My father says the food isn't that good. The only thing they use is the doctors, but my mother has dementia, and they're working on building their memory care. They have a staff at the front desk and a couple of nurses. Due to COVID-19 they don't really do too much, but they play bingo every now and then. Most of the food is stuff he can't eat. I know they can't cook for each individual because they don't have that many people there, but they should at least make it decent enough where they all can eat it. The price is a little high for what they're actually doing for them. It could be better for what they're paying. With this pandemic, we can't visit my father, but I took their new grandbaby over there and we held it outside the window and we took pictures. They are doing the best they can in this situation. It's hard for anybody when you're limited and restricted like we are. If it wasn't a pandemic, it would be a perfect place all the way around because there'd be visitations where you could take them out to dinner, but with all this going on, it just makes it extra hard, even on the staff as well as on the families and the people that are there. They're doing their best right now, and they're doing a great job. They're friendly as they can be when you go there."

"In the last 12 months Town & Country Senior Living, has had: 2 Executive Directors, 4 Director of Wellness, High turnover of staff, Unable to get direct email for staff (had to go through main line), Poor communication between residents, staff, family and in house doctor, less than a year it has changed ownership again."

"Cedarhurst of Waterloo was very nice, but it was expensive. It's a newer facility, and the people were more mobile. If you didn't want to take a shower, they had one of those walk-in bathtub spas that you could use. They also have a person coming in that does their nails, but they have to pay for that. There's a beauty shop and they do a lot of trips. The meals were included, they have three meals a day. The person who showed us around was very nice. They've reached out to me several times to see if I'm interested. They did a good tour, and we toured the whole facility. I even got to see regular memory care. They showed me how people had set up their rooms, so I could get an idea of what my mom could do there. You could fit a double-sized bed in the room and the studio there."

"My sister is in the Legacy, and she likes it very much. She has a little, one bedroom efficiency apartment, and everything is brand new. They have three meals a day taken for, they take care of their medicines for them, and they come in and help them if they need to take a shower. They have very nice meals, and she is really happy with everything there. They have a TV room and an errand service on Thursdays. She's been there for well over a month, and I think they have done excellent so far as she has been very happy. The staff is wonderful. She says they are nice, and they just do everything for her. They are very kind. I have talked to the main person on more than one occasion, and she is just excellent. "

"Most of the people at Bethesda were in wheelchairs and a lot worse off than my mother. They have a daycare place, which is one thing we were considering. They were doing a lot of construction, but it was clean. "

"We've chosen the Villas of Holly Brook and Reflections Belleville, Illinois. It's a beautiful facility. It's brand new. It's been open for a year. It's actually Christian based, which I liked, and they have courtyard rooms that live out. They have one and two bedroom-rooms. They have memory care. They will take you to doctor's appointments on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They've got plenty of food to eat. They have a snack bar. They have an alcohol bar at certain times and they have a movie room and everything else there. So it's a very nice facility. They have a refrigerator and they have a microwave and a small kitchen. There's no stove or anything in there. But they do have what they call a rec room area so they can take cooking classes and art and different things like that. So if they want to cook something, they could go in there and do that. My dad was impressed with the place. They have a courtyard, very beautifully laid out with benches and everything. They've got a fireplace out there too. They have a pool room, a shoot pool like that, billiards and that. They have nice little seating areas throughout the facility. It's kind of like a big square in the hallway."
