"I like Cogir of Old Town, Alexandria. They have the same types of amenities. I was looking for what would be a good fit for my brother. He is a veteran, and he would want to talk to other men and that kind of thing, and it was good. It was very nice. Their apartments have microwaves and mini fridges. They have a good amount of storage. They have call buttons. They have a theater area and sitting areas on each floor. People could gather on the floor with the TV there. There are snacks available all day. They have free meals and restaurant-style dining. There is a patio, too, and everybody has been very nice."

"Spring Hills is clean, the workers are outstanding, and not only loving and caring for my wife, but they’re also concerned with my emotional state of mind. They’re magnificent. The food was very good in the assisted living section. "

"The Landing Alexandria is good. My parents have a nice view. It's a very clean, nice facility, but it also costs $11,000 a month. They have a one-bedroom apartment. They have everything there. You can get massages, you can get your hair done, and you can get your nails done. You could do it all if you have the money. They have a courtyard, a penthouse, a very nice game room, and a very nice dining hall. They're getting what seems like fair market value for what they're paying when I compare them to everything else. The reason I chose this place over some others is because the timing was right, and it's close to where I live."

"I have nothing but top marks to give Sunrise of Alexandria. The people running the places were superb to deal with. Back and forth between the hospital and Sunrise, they have been very accommodating to my mom. The rooms are quite nice. My mother had nothing but good reviews for the food, and she raved about it even when she was very discerning. She went to Level 3 nursing care where she had a lot of support. They played cards, checkers, Bingo, and they watch TV and movies. They also had singers, and church services. It was pretty nice that they kept people entertained there. It was also a very friendly atmosphere and people greet you with a smile. The place was also very clean."

"I toured Fran Cares. The staff gave us a really nice tour. I like that they had private and semi-private rooms. They had a cook right there, too. She was preparing the food. They had a very nice menu, and I like the fact that they have all those activities for the clients. They have cookouts on the holidays, and they celebrate birthdays. The location was good. Everybody that I met there were really nice people. The apartments were really nice. Everything was nice and clean. I was very impressed with their dining area. It was a nice dining area. They have a patio, and they could go out and sit there. Overall, I just loved it."

"The Harmony at Waldorf assisted living was excellent. When I went into the facility, it was very inviting. The fall decor was beautiful. It was pleasant, nice, and a quiet environment. The receptionist there was very helpful, and the tour guide was top-notch. The information she gave and the tour was wonderful. I saw several dining areas but I did not have a chance to eat the food or anything. They looked like restaurants with the decor, the glasses, and the napkins. Everything was set up very nicely on the table."

"My mother moved to Cogir of West End Alexandria's memory care. It's a very beautiful community. The attendance of the nurses is very helpful, and the support staff is very supportive. The director is very welcoming and very friendly. The buck stops with him. He takes action immediately if you need something. I haven't had a complaint, but in my experience of trying to get what my mother needed, I can see that he's very receptive and quick to implement what it was that she needed. The staff he gave me to deal with was also very receptive and very professional. I'm very pleased with them. My mother's room is good. I've seen the food and the menu, and they look very healthy. They have activity after activity. Every hour, they're changing and doing something with the people. They take field trips, art sessions, and music sessions. They do let the residents watch TV, but it's not a situation where they're sitting in front of the TV all day. When they watch TV, it's usually a movie in the evening. They don't have the time to watch TV during the day because they're moving them around to different activities."

"I had a lovely tour of Benchmark at Alexandria. They were ready for me. They were very professional. The place was spotless, but it wasn't a good fit for my husband. It wasn't his style. It reminded me of a hotel when you go to travel on business, and my husband hates business travel. But the people were very nice. They gave me some muffins, and they were delicious. The people who were there in the dining room seemed to be enjoying it."

"It is a smaller place. It's been in service for years, but it's nice, and you get your private room. You get to have a sofa in your room. They have a glass-top table, a refrigerator, and they have everything right there where you can be more comfortable. You could sit at a table if you want to eat in a room and have your own privacy and keep some of your own food there. I was there twice in a year. They have facilities to take you to the doctors, and they take you on trips. It has a huge balcony, and they have picnics every Friday when the weather permits. They have sofas and chairs, comfortable seating, and you can sit out there. The food is very good. I get along with everybody. When they know I'm coming in, the help always runs out, greets me, and hugs me. They're all wonderful to me because I treat them well, and they treat me well. I liked the rooms very much, they've got a beautiful dining area, a sitting room right off in the dining area, they've got a fireplace and a big TV screen and table set up where you can have family in and have your own private meal there with your family. They have a refrigerator there that you could share. They have cooking shows of people that are able to participate in, maybe making cookies or something like that. They had a Christmas tree at Christmastime, and everybody helped decorate it. They decorated according to all the holidays. For the ones confined to the room, they give you activity books, puzzles, crayons, pentel, and a paper case if you want to have notes."

"We toured the Sunshine Assisted Living in Alexandria. They gave us a tour of the whole assisted living community. I liked the layout of it and the distance from where we lived. The staff there were very kind and polite. The coordinator was very nice and explained everything that my wife and I talked to her about. The dining area was nice and clean. The staff showed me where they dine, the playing area, and the salon where they do their hair, which was nice. You have to go underground and off the street to park. Other than that, I think it appears nice. It's also right on the corner, so you can't miss it."

"As a first responder, I have seen senior facilities in several area counties, as well as in Charles County. Fenwick Landing was hands down the only place I felt comfortable leaving my parents for assisted living care. Over the span of five years, my parents were well-cared for, kept clean and comfortable at all times. The staff became family, often taking the time to decorate and plan special events around birthdays and anniversaries, etc. The facilities were always clean or in the process of being cleaned. I visited several times a week, daytime, evening, weekends, and always felt welcomed. The facility always had an aroma of something delicious baking for the residents' next meal. If I did have a concern (very few), the management was quick to discuss and address my concern, and were willing to work with me on care requests. If I came during mealtime, the staff always asked if I would like something to eat. When I was unable to take leave from work, the staff at Fenwick Landing accompanied my parents to individual doctor appointments, and kept me updated on all care. During stressful times of declining health and illness, my concerns and questions were always answered, and management was very patient and supportive. No matter where your loved ones are placed for assisted care, a family member or loved one really needs to be a participating advocate... The staff at Fenwick Landing were great, and I was very satisfied overall with the care given to my parents. "

"I like the fact that Angel Living looked friendly. It was like a household, like a family kind of situation. Everybody was in their little areas. The least part is, I wanted a little bit more space for my brother to get around because he's going to be in a wheelchair. They had space, but it was kind of too narrow for him to get around. The staff seemed to be very nice. I only spoke with the one who gave me the tour. The rest of them were engaged, doing whatever they had to do. The cleanliness was great. Everybody was calmly looking at the television and sitting around, so the atmosphere was OK."
