My mother (89 years old) entered Legacy on March 19, 2024, after a second hip fracture rendered her unable to continue to live independently. It took several months for a care plan to be developed, so we were in limbo for some time. When one finally was created, the items on it, for which we were paying, were not being performed (e.g., no one bathed her and applied moisturizer-they waited in her bedroom and watched TV while she showered; no one escorted her to meals, etc.). No one offered assistance with her arranging transportation to her appointments (which she had trouble doing on her own), and there was no clear contact if I wished to discuss concerns with someone. At no point have staff been proactive about notifying me of issues (I live in Philadelphia), but rather I have had to “chase” them to find resolution when I become aware. Furthermore, the staff turnover is so high that it has been nearly impossible to identify, let alone reach, the correct staff member when I need to. By way of example, my mother is incontinent of urine and her room smelled so badly that it could be detected from the hallway. At no point did someone contact me to make me aware of this and discuss solutions. It was not until I was there on a visit, when I sent all of her urine-soaked clothing and bedding to the laundry, sprayed the hamper, overhauled her incontinence garments, ordered a new mattress, and proposed a schedule of four times daily diaper changes that this was even addressed. Even so, as soon as I left, things reverted to their previous status. I caution you against trusting Legacy with the care of your loved ones.

Legacy Village of Salt River is very nice. It is very clean and well taken care of. Kris toured me around and she was great. The facility has a little better setup. The memory section is a very specialized section with a 6 to 1 ratio per staff. So, that's not too bad. The food smelled good. In the memory care, I saw people who were playing volleyball with a balloon in there. They have other areas that are more tactile for them like color and where they can be by themselves without having a lot of noise from other people.

I toured Legacy Village of Salt River. It offered what I think is important, but the timing for her just does not, she wants to put it off for a year. The staff were all very, very accommodating. They were very informative. They gave you all the conditions and then showed the grounds, the facilities. They were lovely. They publish a monthly calendar for the activities that they have. They have libraries, pools, and a movie theater. The rooms were lovely. They have different configurations whether they were one-bedroom or two-bedrooms, but they were all lovely units. The community is efficiently laid out.

I saw a lot of care being taken at Legacy Village of Salt River. The apartments themselves were stunning. They were new and they had good quality washers and dryers and good kitchen appointments. So, they were investing in the property. All the doors to the apartments in the hallway could be decorated with pictures of your dog or something. It was just a very friendly environment without being too pushy about anything. They had a beautiful swimming pool. Their dining rooms were lovely. They had a place for cocktails if you wanted a happy hour situation, and I thought it was beautiful. My friend and I just wanted to see the Legacy because we're at an age where we thought that would be a reasonable next step. They said if we became residents there, we could use their private dining room if we had a large family group or something.

We went to see Legacy Village of Salt River. It was located near Salt River, and they kept pushing the fact that you don't have to pay taxes on the rent there because it's on the Indian reservation. But it's out in the middle of nowhere and it was kind of depressing there. My cousin asked about a library and they didn't really have one. They had a pool and an exercise room. Even though it's less than a year old, the decor wasn't up to date. The chairs were kind of sloppy. I sat in one of the chairs and I could hardly get out of it because it looked like it was broken. It just didn't have the ambiance that the other places had. They didn't even offer us a drink. We had to ask for water because we were thirsty.

We are living in Legacy Village of Salt River now. The combinations are great. They are trying to straighten out issues with the dining room and food service. The staff members are very good and excellent. They need to get more competent servers. The food quality is OK, and it's improving, but it needs to be improved more. The gym facilities are not very well supplied. They have a courtyard, swimming pool, salon, and private parking.
