"Legacy Village of Salt River is very nice. It is very clean and well taken care of. Kris toured me around and she was great. The facility has a little better setup. The memory section is a very specialized section with a 6 to 1 ratio per staff. So, that's not too bad. The food smelled good. In the memory care, I saw people who were playing volleyball with a balloon in there. They have other areas that are more tactile for them like color and where they can be by themselves without having a lot of noise from other people."

"The only person that I spoke to at Arcadia Estate -- in addition to one of the tenants -- was Michelle. She was very accommodating and very nice. She knew what she was talking about when I explained that my father-in-law had dementia and he needed some kind of care or medication for that. And they have a 5-step memory care program, which mean they take care of the really bad ones that don’t even remember who they are -- which of course anybody that has dementia is going to get to that point -- and they are equipped to take care of that. They have a locked floor in their facility for the wanderers like my father-in-law or the people who want to get out in the street and they can’t because they don’t know where they are going and what they are doing so they are a risk to themselves and to other people. They have a whole floor of them, and they have a backyard for them to go out in so they can go outside, but they just can’t go out in the street. You can’t put a person who’s going to wander just anywhere, and they’re able to do that, so I very much like that. They have everything that anybody could use. I saw one of the rooms as well because there’s a tenant there that apparently likes when people come and visit her room, and she was very nice. The rooms were a little on the small side, but it’s only the one person, and they don’t even know where they are at half the time, so what’s the difference? It would have worked out perfectly because my father-in-law doesn’t cook, so they have a microwave, a refrigerator, and a sink. She also had a bed and a little balcony, and she was lying on the floor and watching TV, so it’s perfect for one person. They have their own private bathroom so they don’t have to share, and I liked that too. This place just happened to work out perfectly for me. "

"My mom was in two large facilities before Oakmont. Both were bad choices. Finally, at Oakmont she was given the care I wanted for her. She had a lot if attention and I was eased with her care. It was the closest to being in a home because of the small 10 resident ceiling and caring staff."

"My mom has moved into Well Heeled Senior Care 71st Street. She is feeling okay there. It's just a small home. They have 10 rooms. The staff is very nice. They're extremely considerate, and they look out for each of their clients. They lead and provide good care for them. They have an activity director who works with the clients. So, it's very nice. My mom is in her 90s, so she doesn't get around very well, so it is not that I need a lot for her, unlike someone who may be in their 70s or 80s. They have individual rooms. They have a dining room with a common area, as well as a TV room that is also part of the common area. They have a very small outside area. They have three homes. I only looked at that one, and we liked it. They had a very nice room that I thought would be great for her. The staff is a 4, and I only say that because some of them have Spanish as their first language, and they speak a little bit of English, but not as well. There's always someone there who speaks really good English, but some of the staff don't speak English quite as well. Nevertheless, they are super. It doesn't even matter what the language barrier is. They're all super caring, and they try super hard. My mother doesn't always like the food for each meal, but they go out of their way to make other things for her, and that is despite the language barrier. They provide snacks, too."

They showed us the memory care, which we didn't like at all, and then the rest of the assisted living apartments, which were very nice. The dining room was nice, too. We like that. The staff who accommodated us for the tour was very nice."

"The Ranch Estates at Scottsdale is very welcoming and very efficient. They had availability when we needed it for my mom-in-law so we moved her in. We liked that their location was closer to where her daughter lives and where some of her doctors are located. She is in proximity to the area that she was familiar with and where she used to live. So a lot of those things played out in the thought process of why we chose that place for her. It's also very clean and very nice. She has a one-bedroom apartment with a kitchen. She has an outdoor patio if she chooses to use it. There is a pool facility, exercise, and all the other basic amenities that almost all of the senior places have. They have on-demand dining so you can go in any time and order whatever you want from a select menu, which is very accommodating. There's a salon and nails can be done on-site. Transportation seems to be pretty easy to organize and there always seems to be activities of people coming and going. The staff has all been extremely responsive. I think my mom-in-law is much happier now because she has that responsiveness and everybody's been welcoming there. No questions asked. All the staff came in to introduce themselves to her, let her know that she was going to be taken care of, and open their arms to try to make this thing a special place."

"I toured McDowell Village. I liked that it seemed very clean and bright. The people who were in the lobby and recreation areas seemed happy. What I didn't like is that their dining facilities are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., but there are specific hours for breakfast, specific hours for lunch, and the same for dinner. When their dining room would be closed at least an hour earlier, I usually eat dinner, and the breakfast closed too early, so that would be difficult. My whole life, I've eaten dinner late. The other thing is, I looked at the one-bedroom apartment, and it's just too small for me and my two cats. There's one closet and so much more space spent in the kitchen area, a beautiful, lovely, full-service kitchen, which is quite a wasted space because most of one's meals would be taken in the dining room."
