I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My best friend was at Sunrise of Scottsdale for 7 years. 4 years in Assisted Living then 3 years in Memory Care. I have never met a group of more caring people. They loved her like she was part of their family.

Sunrise of Scottsdale is clean and well-kept. The staff was friendly and welcoming. The memory care unit was on the third floor and was secure. This is one of the few places that allows a non-memory family member to live with the memory care family member. This would have been one of the facilities that we would have chosen had it been closer to family. There were a couple of balconies so they could get some fresh air. They had a larger one-bedroom apartment. So it's almost a two-bedroom with a living space, and then one that would be a bedroom. They're a top-notch facility.

My mother was a resident of Sunrise of Scottsdale. The facility was beautiful. It was like a hotel, almost. They had a big dining room, a big living area, and a TV area. They have an activity room where they do all kinds of activities, crafts, and chair dancing. I think there's about 200 beds there. The thing about it is that it can be up to memory care, so you can change if you need extra help. It's excellent in every way.

Provider Response

Hi Susan, Thank you for the wonderful things you said about Sunrise of Scottsdale. We are passionate about our community and always enjoy hearing the many beautiful stories about our residents.

Mom is still in a period of adjustment at Sunrise of Scottsdale. The staff is pleasant and helpful. The place is all clean and well-kept. The grounds are well-kept and pleasing to the eye. Mom is a little picky about the food. Some things she found good, and some she didn't. They offer quite a few activities and they all look really good. The big, big plus about Sunrise of Scottsdale is that they allow residents to bring their pets.

Provider Response

Hi Robin, It is delightful to hear that you have been satisfied with the personalized support provided to your loved one by Sunrise of Scottsdale. Our team members share a common goal of enriching every resident’s life by carefully listening to their needs and always delivering the very best. Thank you! – The Sunrise Team

I visited this facility

I toured the Sunrise of Scottsdale. The memory care was on the third floor, there was an elevator. There was a lot to be repaired, and they were redecorating, so I didn't see a true picture of it. It was neat, it was a little older, and I told the lady, it reminded me of a funeral home, the layout and all that. She showed me that they had a lot of experience, they were there a while, and they did not have a lot of turnovers. The lady who toured me around was knowledgeable. It was close by, maybe ten minutes away. They had a sitting room when the guest came, they could visit with family.

Sunrise of Scottsdale was very good. They gave me lots of good information, and they were very helpful. The place appeared well kept, and they had a resident dog. The dining room was comfortable looking and welcoming. The staff seemed very friendly, open, and answered a lot of questions. I visited both their assisted living and memory care facilities.

I like Sunrise of Scottsdale. We saw a lot of staff and they seemed happy and had been there for many years. We liked it the best, but it was the most expensive, and they have a waiting list. It reminded me of my mom's home and almost like her decor. They were taking the residents somewhere on the shuttle, and they were all happy. There was a dog that looks exactly like my mom's. Everybody that work there came up and introduced themselves to us, and they were all nice. They had the activities posted and they had things going on all day long. They had exercise, gardening, they take them shopping, they go out to eat, and they had cognitive classes. It's quite big, so there were a lot of people there. It was nice and homey.

I went to visit my friend at Sunrise of Scottsdale. We had a wonderful meal in a beautiful setting inside. It's very nice. I heard last week that my friend is very happy in the memory care section. The caregivers seemed to be attentive when I was there and on top of things and accommodated all of us for the luncheon. The dining area was very nicely decorated and attractive.

Sunrise of Scottsdale is a nice enough place, but it's older. It's physically not as modern. The staff member was good. She spent as much time as we needed. The décor felt like an "old lady" designed it, which they do intentionally to make the older people feel at home. That way it doesn't feel like they're in a resort or a hotel. They probably need to update the décor. To me it feels old.

I visited Sunrise of Scottsdale. They were very nice, very knowledgeable, and took me around. It's had a nice entrance, but that's about it. There's nothing extreme about it. They showed me the different rooms, the dining room, and the playrooms. It didn't look that modern. It's just a building, and it didn't impress me too much. The staff seemed like they knew what they're talking about.

My mom has moved into Sunrise of Scottsdale. We like the location and also she has a really beautiful room. They got a pretty spacious place, and the people are great. It is super clean. I’ve had a couple of meals there, and I would give them a 5. She has issues with her memory, and they have a memory care unit, which is what we wanted as well. So if she progresses to that point, she has that option there.

Sunrise of Scottsdale is very nice and very well-kept. It has individual rooms, they seem to have good caregivers, and they are more engaged with profiling and getting to know my mom. Staff seems very attentive to my mother’s needs, knows their residents, seems to report to a good chain of command from the lead caregiver to the nurses, and good communication to the family in regards to progress, daily routines, noticing anything that may help her fulfill her day, and lots of activities.

So far Sunrise has been the best facility that I have experienced. The care has been very good, and of less importance but nice, is that the facilities are very nice as well. If I were to say anything negative it would be that I think they could improve on the quality of their food. I think the food is adequate but certainly nothing exciting. The nursing, the care, the quality of the caregivers, and the responsiveness to my mother’s needs have been great. They have a lovely lobby, open patios in the front, and a very nice restaurant. They have two lounges on the ground floor; they have 1-bedroom and a studio apartments. Upstairs, they have an activities room, and the third floor is memory care. My mother’s apartment is on the ground floor and has its own doorway out onto the outside sort of yard and patio areas. It’s very clean, and each suite has its own bathroom.

I was not very impressed with Sunrise of Scottsdale. Every summer, it’s too hot and there aren't any activities going on. Their rooms were clean and well kept. Their dining area was nice, and I am satisfied with the food that they offered.

Sunrise is comfortable, clean, and inviting. They had a nice green outside, as you come in, with plants. The director of marketing was very confident, very friendly, and open. She introduced me to a few residents, saw a couple of rooms that were different sizes, and saw the dining, meals, and the activity boards. It was very nice and pleasant; however, the cost was more expensive.

We went to Sunrise of Scottsdale, and it was great. The people we sat with and talked to were fabulous, more than helpful in answering all of the questions that we had, and showed us around. If possible, we would have gone there. The rooms and apartments seem like a pretty good size. It was gorgeous and very nice.

Sunrise was a little fancy and beautiful. We didn’t see many residents out and about doing things, but overall, the place seemed very welcoming and warm. You can tell the residents really enjoyed it there. The rooms were very nice, but I was a little concerned about cost. The food was excellent, of good quality, and came in healthy portions; it wasn’t over-flavored, but it wasn’t under-flavored, either. The caretakers that we saw were very engaged with the residents. They had a poor calendar of activities, but the neighborhood was good. It’s in a beautiful setting and a little set back from the road.

Sunrise of Scottsdale was the best out of all the communities we've seen. It's a really nice, clean place, and I liked the apartments. They had a lot of scheduled activities. They stated that my mother would have a dedicated caretaker, and I like that idea. The lady who gave us the tour showed us three kinds of rooms, and they were fine and well furnished. The atmosphere was very homey. The grounds were gorgeous, as well.

I like the atmosphere, the size of the apartments, and the way we are treated at Sunrise of Scottsdale. I also like that it's an end-of-life facility with a memory unit, so we will not have to move my stepfather.

I visited Sunrise of Scottsdale for my brother. It was extremely nice and very friendly. There were lots of people there and residents sitting out and about. They had a resident dog in the lobby, which was really cute. However, they did not have a room, and the facility was for older people than my brother. Also, I didn’t see many men there at the time.

I visited Sunrise of Scottsdale for my mom. It was nice. The only reason I didn't choose them is because it was way farther from my home. They were very nice. The lobby was very nice, but I knew right away that I didn't want to turn there because it would take me longer to go visit it every day.

I like Sunrise of Scottsdale, and my mother liked it also at the time. It appealed to someone who is older because they tried to make it look like something from her era. Everyone seemed nice. The rooms were well maintained, but not spacious. There's nothing wrong with the place -- it's homey looking.

The staff at Sunrise of Scottsdale are extremely helpful, accommodating, and very personable. It has a very home-like atmosphere and not sterile. The rooms are great and well maintained. They were freshly painted and cleaned when we moved in. There are good amenities too. My mother already needs all the help she can gey, so they all have the handicapped features in place as well as the emergency cords. There are a lot of staff members always available. It is very nice, and we feel very fortunate that we got a very large space for both of my parents. They have lots of things like regular trips. They have trips for breakfast and lunch, food shopping, pharmacy, and Wal-Mart. They had a really lovely holiday brunch for Mother's Day. They have bingo, movies, and crafts. There is always something going on. The thing that struck me most about the place is that the residents are always up and about whether they are in the café or just watching TV. They try really hard to get everybody out of their rooms. They have these rocking chairs in front of the place, so if the residents wander outside, they can sit and enjoy the shade. They do a lot, and there are people around all the time. The food was good when we tried it during the Mother's Day brunch. I was kind of skeptical because they were serving families with salmon, but they really did a good job with it.

I met Carol in Sunrise of Scottsdale, and she was very helpful and very friendly. The facility was nice, and they had a lot of activities. It's dog friendly, and they allow people to have pets. They have dogs in the lobby, which was nice. My mother has a dog, and she likes that. But the facility was a little bit older.

I do visit people at Sunrise of Scottsdale. The staff is very good and very friendly. They have a lot of people on-board, a lot of caregivers -- four caregivers per shift. The food is good. The people are very caring. They have a lot of activities like arts and crafts, poker, bingo, and they take them on trips. It's a good place, and it is clean.

Sunrise of Scottsdale would be my second choice from all the facilities I've visited. We met a lot of the workers and they seemed to be very nice. They showed us around the facility and it was very clean. What was kind of interesting about their facility though is that they had doors that automatically close to block off the different wings of the building in case there was a fire. They could block off parts of the building so the fire would not spread. They have a very nice dining right off the front lobby and they had a little snack bar in the lobby. Their décor was a little bit more Victorian looking although little less modern, but it was clean and cute.

This facility has 58 assisted living apartments. They are studios and one bedrooms with partial kitchens. Each room is handicapped equipped. All have cable. There are emergency pull cords. The building is beautiful. As you walk in there is a wooden staircase, nice decorations of stone and marble. They have flowers and fountains as well. They provide all laundry and housekeeping. There are three licensed nurses on duty during the weekdays and on call. They do not have a house doctor but one comes in and is on call. They have a physical therapist who comes in, They also have a podiatrist and chiropractor who come in. They have plenty of certified caregivers on duty. The staff seems caring. They are licensed for all 3 levels of care. They have hospice residents. They have a restaurant style ding room which provides three meals a day. They always have 2 specials and an alternate menu. Snacks are served and available. There is also a bistro outside the restaurant for coffee and juices. The food is good. They do transport for appointments within 10 miles. On the enclosed grounds they have walking paths, benches, lots of greenery and flowers. /They have covered patios. They have a theater and computer room. Activities here are great. They have bingo, cards, parties and bbqs. They are planning a sock hop, /they bring in outside entertainment. They take the residents on community walks. For outings they go shopping, out to Olive Garden for lunch, and to church. I feel this is a great place.

Sunrise is a small, elegant facility, with lots of personal attention to the residents. I've seen them modify a penthouse unit, prior to a lady moving in, to ensure her happiness. She was thrilled with her new apartment, and she says that they treat her like a queen.
